Up for sale is my personally owned 1989 Mercedes Benz 300ce.  Let me start my stating that this car is an excellent running vehicle in terms of its power train.  The engine has no oil leaks , accelerates, and has no knock or ticks, and runs very well.  The engine has been meticulously maintained by an ASE certified and trained Mercedes mechanic that has done all maintenance on the engine over the last three years that I have owned her.  The transmission was replaced 5k miles ago by a local transmission shop and shifts flawlessly and matches the engine perfectly for great acceleration and shifting.  The car is fortified with 16" Pirelli tires that wrap SLK320 Stock Mercedes Rims and there is approximately 45% tread left on the tires.  The radio is a SONY XPLODE SERIES removable faceplate and matches the existing speakers in the front and the back for a great sound system.  The power antennae is in place but does not function at present, and will probably need replacement.  The climate control works, and the heat works fine, but the a/c comes out luke  cold and sometimes cold probably needing a ac recharge.  Also the blower motor sometimes makes noise and stops running but then will run often times with no issue for months.  The moon roof and the sunroof work as they should.  The interior is without any tears or rips and has some minor abrasions in the front seats as the pictures indicate. For a 24 year old car the interior was kept remarkably well.  The exterior of the car is all straight with no real dents, but there are some minor abrasions on the body and a slight scratch and minor indentation in the rear trunk molding.  The car comes complete with a custom bra pictured partially and it also covers all the front of the grill as well.  The braking system functions as it should, and the front end is decent but sometimes going over the hard roads of New York it feels a little loose and a good replacement of certain of the front end parts would greatly tighten the ride.  There are two new shocks in the back.  The custom exhaust system was recently services and overhauled and works and functions fine and sound really good.  All windows, all switches and all accessories including all headlights fog light and turn signal all work and perform as they should. The car also has installed an after market Multi Lock that retails alone for over $450.00 and a factory installed Mercedes alarm for added security and that passively arms when the door lock is enaged.   This car really looks sharp as pictures and I feel confident that it can drive out of my garage and drive  anywhere in the USA. The battery is also a Duralast and new  and has an a remaining warranty for replacement for another 2 years. All in all this car is an excellent example of a 24 year old 300ce Mercedes and with a little work, can be an outstanding representation. Call or text anytime to view or ask any questions regarding this truly amazingly engineered and fun vehicle. Al 516-473-8399. This vehicle will be sold to the highest bidder regardless of price and is sold AS IS WHERE IS, and for NO RESERVE!

Watch this perfectly nice Mercedes get crushed by a front-end loader

Mon, 25 Mar 2013

In a world where the YouTube hoax continues to thrive, it's hard to know what to think of this little vid, but here are the facts as we know them: a coupe that looks like a first-generation Mercedes-Benz CLK gets crushed by a giant front-end loader. There you have it.
Our questions arise in the aftermath - we know industrial resource machinery is heavy, but the Benz gets squashed so flat we wonder if someone's trying to play a joke on us. We hear that the white coupe may have been the heavy-equipment operator's foreman's car, but who knows? The on-camera interview seems awfully conveniently placed, yes? See for yourself in the video below and then leave us your thoughts in Comments.

Mercedes Concept GLA45 AMG is ready to run

Wed, 20 Nov 2013

This is the Mercedes-Benz Concept GLA45 AMG, and what we mean by that is, "This is the Mercedes-Benz GLA45 AMG." Mercedes has just unveiled the liveried 'concept' at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show, giving potential customers a very good look at the newest lunatic in the AMG asylum - a 355-horsepower, 332-pound-foot crossover that uses the same 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine found in the CLA45 AMG and Europe's A45 AMG.
Joined with a seven-speed, AMG Speedshift dual-clutch transmission and an AMG Performance 4Matic all-wheel-drive system, Mercedes promises a sub-five-second run to 60 miles per hour. That's not just quick for a crossover, that's quick full stop.
That sleek, lifted body has also been tweaked by the minds at AMG's Affalterbach facility. A new rear spoiler, side sills and front clip are the primary aerodynamic tweaks. Aesthetically, AMG has fitted the requisite "Turbo" badges, gloss-black accents (including exhaust tips and roof rails) and a set of 21-inch, AMG-spec alloy wheels to round out the overall package. Based on the spy shots we've seen, expect slightly toned down aerodynamics when the GLA45 AMG arrives in showrooms.

Ecclestone wonders if F1's upcoming turbo V6s should get augmented sound [w/videos]

Mon, 08 Apr 2013

While every team on the Formula One grid is worried about making a good showing in this year's championship at the same time as they develop a brand-new car for next year's championship, Bernie Ecclestone and F1 circuit promoters have a different concern: how next year's cars will sound. The current cars use 2.4-liter, naturally-aspirated V8s that can reach 18,000 revolutions per minute and employ dual exhaust, next year's engine formula calls for 1.4-liter turbocharged V6s that are capped at 15,000 rpm and are constrained to a single exhaust outlet. Ecclestone and promoters like Ron Walker believe the new engines sound like lawnmowers and that the less thrilling audio will keep people from coming to races. If Walker's Australian Grand Prix really is shelling out almost $57 million to hold the race, every ticket counts. As a fix, according to a report in Autoweek, Ecclestone "suggests that the only way to guarantee [a good sound] may be to artificially adjust the tone of the V6s."
However, neither the manufacturers nor the governing body of F1, the FIA, think there will be a problem. Ecclestone fears that if the manufacturers "don't get it right" they'll simply leave the sport, but the only three carmakers and engine builders left next year, Renault (its 2014 "power unit" is pictured), Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari are so embedded that it would stretch belief to think they'd leave the table over an audio hiccup - if said hiccup even occurs. And frankly, these issues always precede changes to engine formulas, as they did when the formula switched from V10 to V8; fans, though, are probably less focused on the engines and more on the mandated standardization of the sport and the spec-series overtones that have come with it.
No one knows yet what next year's engines will sound like, but we've assembled a few videos below to help us all start guessing. The first is an engine check on an Eighties-era John Player Special Renault with a 1.5-liter V6 turbo, after that is Ayrton Senna qualifying in 1986 in the Lotus 98T that also had a 1.5-liter V6 turbo, then you'll find a short with a manufactured range of potential V6 engine notes, and then the sound of turbocharged V6 Indycars testing last year at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Any, or none of them, could be Formula One's future.
