THE CAR STARTS UP AND RUNS AND RUNS LIKE IT IS ROUGH AND THEN BEGINS TO HEAT UP AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES OF RUNNING. BUT DURING THE TIME I KEEP IT RUNNING THE A/C WORKS EXCELLENT AS DO ALL THE ELECTRICS, THE ORIGINAL BECKER RADIO SOUNDS NICE AND THE SUN ROOF WORKS BUT IT IS OFF TRACK. THE BODY AND INTERIOR ARE IN WHAT WE WOULD SAY VERY VERY GOOD CONDITION. THERE ARE NO BROKEN WINDOWS BUT THERE IS A VERY SMALL CHIP ON PASSENGER SIDE WINSHIEL DOWN LOW AND IT DOES NOT OBSTRUCT ANYTHING AND IS HARDLY NOTICABLE. THE TIRES ARE IN GREAT SHAPE AND HAS THE SPARE. WE DO NOT REALLY HAVE A PLACE TO DO ANY WORK ON THIS VEHICLE AT THE PRESENT TIME SO WE ARE GOING TO OFFER IT HERE. IF WE WERE FINANCIALY BETTER OFF WE WOULD PUT THE WORK THIS CAR NEEDS INTO IT. WHEN THE CAR STARTS UP IT DOES HAVE WHITE SMOKE WHICH COULD BE HEAD GASKETS, BUT IT DOES NOT KNOCK OR PING. Mercedes AMG and Cigarette Racing debut 2,220-HP electric motor boat
Thu, 14 Feb 2013Take the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG E-Cell, stretch it and take off the wheels then make it float and you've basically got the just-unveiled Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept. Powered by an all-electric powertrain that offers 2,200 horsepower and 2,213 pound-feet of torque (and uses "numerous components" taken from the not-quite-as-yellow SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive), the sleek concept is being called the "world's most powerful electric drive powerboat." What that means is a top speed of over 100 miles per hour from four 60-kWh lithium-ion batteries and two banks of six liquid-cooled, permanent-magnet synchronous electric motors. And the 240 kWh of total energy should provide plenty of juice out on the water.
Launched (but not literally) at the Miami International Boat Show today, the Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept is the result of a partnership between Mercedes-AMG and Cigarette Racing. The boat is 38 feet long (much longer than the 15-foot SLS) and is plastered with AMG branding on the sides and top of the bow above the matte chrome yellow paint (officially called AMG Electricbeam mango). Two 220-kW chargers can refill the batteries, dockside, in about seven hours.
The idea of a powerful electric boat is nothing new (Henrik Fisker talked about a plug-in hybrid watercraft late last year), but this is the first time we've seen Mercedes put its EV technology on the water. European automakers gear up for Brazilian production
Mon, 07 Oct 2013Brazil is the place to be, apparently. Toyota has been investing in the South American country, as has BMW, which announced a $261 million investment in October 2012, on the heels of an Audi factory announcement in San José Chiapa. The high-end immigration is only set to continue, as Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar-Land Rover have both announced plans to set up manufacturing operations there.
Mercedes is the big news here, as its new facility will see the German manufacturer invest 170-million euros for production of its next-generation C-Class and upcoming GLA-Class. "Brazil is an important future market. With our local production we accept the challenge and take on the competition," noted Andreas Renschler, Management Board member for Production and Procurement at Mercedes-Benz Cars and Mercedes-Benz Vans. Production is expected to begin by 2016.
Jaguar-Land Rover, meanwhile, isn't so concrete in its plans. The news of its investment in South America comes from a job posting for a plant quality manager in Brazil that was picked up by the UK's AutoCar. "Portuguese language skills will be definite advantage" for interested candidates, according to the job listing. The want ad follows on the heels of remarks by Jaguar Land Rover's Dr. Ralph Speth, who said there are "very intensive discussions" with Brazil's government. Unlike Mercedes, there's no mention of which vehicles will be produced in South America, although AutoCar thinks the Freelander, sold in the US as the LR2, is a leading contender.
2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class caught totally undisguised
Mon, 18 Mar 2013Based on the lightly camouflaged spy shots of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class we've seen lately, it hasn't taken a vivid imagination to picture what the next iteration of this big luxury sedan will look like. Even so, we now we have our first unobstructed views of the redesigned S-Class, codenamed W222, as it has just been caught out flaunting for some promo shots.
The first thing we notice about the new S-Class design is the disappearance of the last generation's flared wheel arches. Yet the new design adds even more character with bodyside creases similar to the CLS-Class and some elements reminiscent of 2007's F700 Concept, including the massive grille and vertical LED taillights. Other key details include a large panoramic roof and the narrow exhaust outlets, but the large LED-trimmed headlights and the aggressive front fascia are probably the biggest departure from the current design. With these spy shots, we also catch a blurry shot of the interior, but we've seen a practically uncovered look at the new S-Class' cabin back in January.
Overall, the next S-Class sports an expressive and premium new look, but as far as all-new designs go, it's quite conservative - a move no doubt fitting for these lean financial times.
