1988 300e Vtg Mercedes Clean 122k Miles 2 Owner Texas Dealer Title on 2040-cars
Pensacola, Florida, United States
See the Vehicle Report included at the above tab. This vehicle was historically a low mileage car. 2 owners it appears and has not been registered for the past 7 years, now its time to go and let a new home/owner enjoy its virtues and benefits for the price; yes it needs tinkering but its a good inexpensive model for a winter car or student possibly. It is imperfect but far from a dog or pitiful. Some may want it for its drivetrain as a donor for their car or not, I make no judgements. It will drive to your home from here without a problem I would surmise thus its not one of those 'trailer it home specials', but its got odds and ends that need tweeked or repaired or not, its your budget.
Engine- is strong and runs extremely well, transmission shifts cleanly smoothly, no taps no knocks, valves smooth, drives true and straight, corners well and steering is tight. Hood pad is excellent. Battery New Bosch approx 800cca, Bosch Plug wires new, plugs not fouling and starts well and dependably when cold or warm, idles approx 700rpm, cold start valve seems to work as should. Note engine does not run warm as most older I6 3.0 of this vintage usually do at this age, runs 80 celcius!! even at idle or hwy speeds!! Thats ideal. Oil pressure at idle is approx 2, 3 at speed as it should, oil filter is Mahle German not Fram. Interior- quite clean and seats firm, frankly amazing for the 25yr age actually, no rips nor tears nor loose seams, pleats full and supple not sunbaked soft nor worn, carpeting clean not worn, missing center armrest, wood console has chipping but not water cracking, sunroom tilt and retracts without noise nor sticking and watertight. Becker Grand Prix Automatic radio is original but displays '- - - -' theft deterrent lockout from battery replacement and not recoded. Power front seats work, front windows work, rear windows do not, right rear door does not open from loose mechanism internally, all windows close watertight. Climate Control unit seems fine, tested with another vehicle, and the blower fuses are fine, but, the blower speeds do not function nor does the airconditioning, not atypical for a car that has not been driven for so long. Heater and monovalve appear to work as should. Vent circulation at road speed just not at standstill, and recirculation switch works. Suspension- rear is tight and firm, needs right rear wheel bearing. Front- tie rod ends fine, steering damper fine, needs ball joints left and right, needs struts as it floats a bit at highway speed, fine around town, alignment seems fine, steers center and true with no loose wobble nor play, accurate when directed with no play or sloppiness. Brakes- stop evenly and straight with no pull nor discernable imbalance front to rear, quiet pads and rotors, no untrue rotors, age and remaining pad life unknown Wheels- are original with modest curb rash, evenly colored and good finish and basically clean, 4 tires show wear and need replacement, all are different brands not matching. Exhaust- needs center resonator, has a hole at from at pipe connection ($150 on ebay) or delete for straight pipes from catalytic to rear muffler, perfectly fine for this model and will improve mileage by 1mpg actually with no discernable sound difference, the difference between Eberspracher and and American stock actually. The old original aluminum bullet fuses should be replaced with new Brass ones is strongly suggested, they naturally corrode over time and are not dependable as the new alloys. Its a 20footer, looks far better from 20 feet away as it does have parking lot chips and scuffs, normal for a past daily driver; appears to have had a garaged life for the most part but its aging. Seems someone did a clear coat on it who knows how many years ago, good thing but not a great job, thus it helped sealed the paint but its far from a perfect finish, still shines though, but the sun is doing what the sun does, it is lightly fading in places regardless. In summary, its sold as is, no warranty nor have I embellished the condition. I've noted what I know to be wrong, broken, needing repair or tinkering or replacement. It is what it is but its worthy of a new home and owner. Again you must note that it is the original Texas title with multiple dealer endorsements and auction stamp, it has not been registered to an individual in 7 years. I considered getting rid of it by trading it in but am offering it here if someone wants a good car with good bones that will drive home and perhaps serve your needs for transportation or perhaps as a donor car or for a home restorer. Thanks, ask any questions. I may be able to answer or not, ask. |

Recharge Wrap-up: BMW i3 goes against Mercedes B-Class ED, Tesla good for business
Wed, Sep 17 2014Car and Driver has published a comparison test pitting the 2014 BMW i3 against the 2014 Mercedes-Benz B-class Electric Drive. The test not only measured the quality of the driving experience, but also all the quantitative details that are especially important when looking at electric vehicles. For instance, the Benz's real-world MPGe surpassed its own rating, but it still couldn't match the BMW. The B-Class, though, won in the range department. We won't spoil all the results, or Car and Driver's overall pick, but you can head over to the article to find out for yourself. Tesla's expanding business, including the Gigafactory being built in Reno, NV, is encouraging growth in the locales and associated businesses. Some of Tesla's suppliers are talking of relocation, wanting to be close to the action stirred up by the electric automaker's expansion. It makes good business sense to be in the same neighborhood as Tesla. "We can react quickly, and our engineers are constantly working with Tesla," says Futuris General Manager Sam Coughlin. Brookings Institute fellow Jennifer Vey says, "The land around Tesla is being redeveloped and reimagined. It's a mash-up of an anchor campus, startups, housing and transit, in a physically compact area where companies can cluster and connect." Read more at San Jose Mercury News. EVs are doing even more to reduce energy use clean up the air, according to new analysis from the Union of Concerned Scientists. According to findings, 60 percent of Americans now live in areas where EVs do more to reduce emissions than hybrids, up from 45 percent in 2012. Average electricity use is now 0.325 kWh per mile, down five percent from 2011. EV performance - in terms of mileage and emissions - is improving compared to traditional fuel vehicles, based on the sources of electricity in various regions. Zipcar is expanding across Europe, and has already established itself in Austria, Spain and the UK. According to Zipcar France's General Manager Etienne Hermite, "In a highly populated city, Zipcar's model has been proven to remove up to 15 personally owned vehicles from the road for each Zipcar in service, reducing parking demand, congestion and emissions." Zipcar European President Massimo Marsili hopes that most Parisians will eventually be just a short walk from a Zipcar.
New Mercedes E-Class nearly exposed, may be Maybach
Mon, Sep 14 2015The all-new Mercedes-Benz E-Class is marching closer and closer to production, with a new round of spy photos giving us our best look yet at the S-Class-inspired looks of the German brand's executive luxury car. There really is very little camouflage this time around – what's there looks more like the kind of plastic wrapping you'd see on a freshly imported vehicle at the port. In front, we can see the new E will wear similar LED accents to the S- and C-Class. The E-Class' big and little brothers also inspired the tail of the new model, where we can see slightly disguised, vertically oriented LED taillights. Prominent, enclosed exhausts are very similar to what we saw in our spy shots of the Mercedes-Maybach E-Class. Aside from the exhausts, this particular car also wears the same blingy wheels as the range-topping tester we spied last August. The thick-rimmed, multi-spoke design isn't the only giveaway to this car's luxurious intentions, though. Our last Maybach sighting showed a car completely covered in camo, making it difficult to tell just how large the rear doors are relative to the car we're seeing today. Instead of the doors, though, we suggest you look at the windows. Like the August spy photos, this prototype features tinted rear glass, which could perhaps indicate that we're looking at yet another example the second Mercedes-Maybach model. So is this yet another Maybach E-Class? We're leaning towards yes. The size of the back doors – and the rear quarter window, in particular – is close enough to what we saw last month, and the presence of tinted glass, the same exhausts, and the same wheels can't be discounted either.
Best car infotainment systems: From UConnect to MBUX, these are our favorites
Sun, Jan 7 2024Declaring one infotainment system the best over any other is an inherently subjective matter. You can look at quantitative testing for things like input response time and various screen load times, but ask a room full of people that have tried all car infotainment systems what their favorite is, and you’re likely to get a lot of different responses. For the most part, the various infotainment systems available all share a similar purpose. They aim to help the driver get where they're going with navigation, play their favorite tunes via all sorts of media playback options and allow folks to stay connected with others via phone connectivity. Of course, most go way beyond the basics these days and offer features like streaming services, in-car performance data and much more. Unique features are aplenty when you start diving through menus, but how they go about their most important tasks vary widely. Some of our editors prefer systems that are exclusively touch-based and chock full of boundary-pushing features. Others may prefer a back-to-basics non-touch system that is navigable via a scroll wheel. You can compare it to the phone operating system wars. Just like some prefer Android phones over iPhones, we all have our own opinions for what makes up the best infotainment interface. All that said, our combined experience tells us that a number of infotainment systems are at least better than the rest. WeÂ’ve narrowed it down to five total systems in their own subcategories that stand out to us. Read on below to see our picks, and feel free to make your own arguments in the comments. Best infotainment overall: UConnect 5, various Stellantis products Ram 1500 Uconnect Infotainment System Review If thereÂ’s one infotainment system that all of us agree is excellent, itÂ’s UConnect. It has numerous qualities that make it great, but above all else, UConnect is simple and straightforward to use. Ease of operation is one of the most (if not the single most) vital parts of any infotainment system interface. If youÂ’re expected to be able to tap away on a touchscreen while driving and still pay attention to the road, a complex infotainment system is going to remove your attention from the number one task at hand: driving. UConnect uses a simple interface that puts all of your key functions in a clearly-represented row on the bottom of the screen. Tap any of them, and it instantly pulls up that menu.
