Here i am selling a 1985 Mercedes 300TD turbo diesel wagon .1985 was the last year Mercedes built the wonderful 123 series estate . This particular car was finished in Champagne  (MB color code 473) with Palomino color MB-tex interior . The body and the paint are in very nice condition as the many pictures will show . There are no dings, dents or scratches to speak of and the paint shines like on a much newer car . I do get compliments on this wagon whenever i take it out . 190k miles is actually considered low mileage for this kind of Mercedes . There are several cars with this engine on Ebay right now , which have over 400k miles on it and still running well . If you keep taking care of this kind of car , it really can last you a lifetime .They have a reputation for being the most durable and reliable car Mercedes made.   The interior is also in amazing shape . There are no rips or tears in the seats, the carpets are clean but a little faded in spots and even the wood panels are in great condition . This car also had the rare option of the interior cargo net with a cover for the rear cargo area .  The cargo net mounts to the back of the 2nd seat.  You can attach it to the roof in that position.  It also works with the 2nd seats folded down and attaches to the roof in a different spot, where it protects just the driver and front passenger.  The cargo net/ rear area cover rewinds into a factory box finished in palomino and is removable with the turn of 2 hand screws. Maintenance was always performed and it shows when you drive it . Just last month a service was performed , fluids and filters changed and the motor mounts and one drive-shaft axle were replaced . The brakes were done at the same time . This wagon always starts up right away and it drives wonderful . It has plenty of power in town and on the freeway . It cruises comfortably at 90 miles per hour while still getting up to 27mpg of diesel  . With the turbo it is not slow at all and a true pleasure to drive .It would be a perfect car for somebody who would want to drive it every day , even for long distances . It would also be the perfect candidate for a bio-diesel conversion , where you can drive it on vegetable oil or even free waste oil from restaurants . Even for a collector this car would make sense as a practical long term investment . It was the last year , prices are already appreciating and they just do not make them like this anymore.  If you have any more questions or if you would like to schedule an appointment to come by and see this wagon , feel free to send me a quick note through Ebay and i will respond quickly . I would really prefer to sell this car to somebody local ,who could actually come by and see it . But i would also be helpful with shipping or a airport pick up for a out of town buyer . All sipping charges would have to be paid by the winning bidder.  This is a wonderful , great driving 28 year old car and as such it will be sold " as is " , " where is " and WITHOUT a warranty . I am located in La Canada and i will make myself available for a test drive almost anytime . Thank you for looking at my auction and good luck ....

Mercedes-Benz engines with 48-volt systems coming in 2017

Tue, Jun 14 2016

As part of a big green push announced yesterday, Mercedes-Benz is jumping into the world of 48-volt power. The company will launch a new family of efficient gasoline engines next year and will begin rolling out 48-volt systems with it, likely in its more expensive cars first. Mercedes will use the 48-volt systems to power mild-hybrid functions like energy recuperation (commonly called brake regeneration), engine stop-start, electric boost, and even moving a car from a stop on electric power alone. These features will be enabled through either an integrated starter-generator (Mercedes abbreviates it ISG) or a belt-driven generator (RSG). (RSG is from the German word for belt-driven generator, Riemenstartergeneratoren. That's your language lesson for the day.) Mercedes didn't offer many other details on the new family of engines. There are 48-volt systems already in production; Audi's three-compressor SQ7 engine uses an electric supercharger run by a 48-volt system, and there's a new SQ5 diesel on the horizon that will use a similar setup with the medium-voltage system. Electric superchargers require a lot of juice, which can be fed by either a supercapacitor or batteries in a 48-volt system. Why 48-volt Matters: Current hybrid and battery-electric vehicles make use of very high voltages in their batteries, motors, and the wiring that connects them, usually around 200 to 600 volts. The high voltage gives them enough power to move a big vehicle, but it also creates safety issues. The way to mitigate those safety issues is with added equipment, and that increases both cost and weight. You can see where this is going. By switching to a 48-volt system, the high-voltage issues go away and the electrical architecture benefits from four times the voltage of a normal vehicle system and uses the same current, providing four times the power. The electrical architecture will cost more than a 12-volt system but less than the complex and more dangerous systems in current electrified vehicles. The added cost makes sense now because automakers are running out of ways to wisely spend money for efficiency gains. Cars can retain a cheaper 12-volt battery for lower-power accessories and run the high-draw systems on the 48-volt circuit. The industry is moving toward 48-volt power, with the SAE working on a standard for the systems and Delphi claiming a 10-percent increase in fuel economy for cars that make the switch.

Carlsson turns Mercedes-Benz SLK into 610-HP hill-climb clawer

Mon, 28 Jan 2013

Carlsson's race-tuned versions of the Mercedes-Benz SLK have been taking checkered flags for years, and we won't be surprised if its SLK 340 hill climber fares any different. Developed by multiple German and Swiss hill climb champion Reto Meisel, the carbon-bodied SLK 340 with lightweight brakes and a closed underbody weighs 1,716 pounds. Propelling that tiny bit of weight is a 3.4-liter V8 from Judd with 610 horsepower, and it rolls on 18-inch wheels shod in Avon tires.
It will debut at the Geneva Motor Show before beginning its racing campaigns in the summer. This one won't just tear up roads in Europe, though - Meisel says he plans on bringing it to the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. The press release below has more details.

Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet is the ultimate safari machine

Mon, Feb 13 2017

Update: A Mercedes representative has informed us that the Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet will not be available in the United States. The text has been updated to reflect this. Vehicles such as the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6x6 and G500 4x42 are all well and good, but they have one key issue: They simply aren't extravagant enough. Now we know that sounds insane because one of those vehicles has six driven wheels and the other is available in tennis-ball green. But they must not be decadent enough because Mercedes went a step further with the new Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet. While the most obvious change here is the soft-top, which will make this perfect for the wealthy to view wildlife on private safaris, we should start under the hood. The previous two monster G-Wagens made do with lowly V8s. This one features a twin-turbocharged V12 making 630 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque. Like its predecessors, this G650 uses a four-wheel-drive system with front, center, and rear differential locks, and sends power to solid portal axles front and rear. These axles move the differential and drive axles above the wheel centers for additional ground clearance. Inside, the rear passengers will be in the lap of luxury, even while the driver is navigating particularly harsh terrain. The soft top can be electrically raised or lowered, as can a glass partition to the driver's compartment. The two individual rear seats can be fully reclined, and leg rests deploy from below, taking full advantage of the truck's long wheelbase. This would likely make for an amazing vehicle for stargazing. The passengers also have access to folding tables, 10-inch LCD displays, and heated, cooled, and illuminated cup holders. Only 99 of these G650s will be built. Mercedes will show the SUV at this year's Geneva show, and it will hit the market this fall. Mercedes hasn't announced pricing, but expect it to be exorbitant. Not that matters for American buyers, since a Mercedes representative told us it won't be offered in the States. For buyers in countries where the G650 will be available, they will have the option of four interior color schemes, three soft-top colors, and four paint hues. Related Video:
