This ad is for a 1983 Mercedes-Benz 300D turbo-diesel. The car was originally silver and when I purchased it, I had it painted in Mango Green, which is a rare, but factory color for Mercedes of this vintage.
The car overall has a nice interior, and the seats are very comfortable. I'd say that the seats are in better than average condition, considering the age of the car. The dashboard is in decent shape, and has only minor cracking. The car also has the original floor mats, and trunk mat.
The car runs well, and starts easily even in cold temperatures (even down to 3 degrees). The transmission is in good shape, and has clean, firm shifts.
I have done a lot of work to the car since I've owned it, including many new suspension components.
Work that has been done, or parts that have been replaced since I've owned the car:
-Exterior repainted in Mango Green in 2007
-New inner and outer front wheel bearings (total of 4)
-New Bilstein shock absorbers
-New steering damper
-New Goodyear tires (with less than 50 miles)
-New rear subframe bushings
-New tie-rods
-New front upper control arms
-New differential mount
-New front brake rotors
-New front brake calipers
-New front brake pads
-New air conditioning compressor, dryer, and expansion valve
-New right rear door seal
-New left side axle
-New right rear window motor
-New power window switches (the ones in the center console)
-New power steering fluid
-Differential oil changed
-Dynamat soundproofing on the trunk lid, under and behind rear seat, on parcel shelf, and on all four doors.
-Dynamat Hoodliner hoodpad
The car does have a few issues that need to be worked out.
The right side power windows are not currently working.
There is a minor leak inside the car. It is never enough to make any standing in the back of the car.
The car has the original radio, and it needs the code to work. The car doesn't currently have any speakers installed. The rear speaker openings in the parcel shelf were enlarged slightly, and so the original speaker grills do not cover the openings.
The car has some minor bubbling on the bottom of the front right fender, and on the bottom of the left rear fender. Otherwise the paint is in excellent shape.
The odometer isn't working, and hasn't since I've owned the car.
The windshield has large crack, and may need to be replaced to pass inspection.
The check-strap is missing on the right rear door.
The driver's seat cushion has spot where the vinyl has separated from the canvas backer. The vinyl is not in danger of peeling off, and the rest of the cover is in excellent shape.
However, the car as a whole is excellent considering the age.
The car has the upgraded H4 headlights, which are more modern and have a wider beam pattern than the sealed beam lights that this car came with originally.
The left side windows and sunroof work properly.
The car has no shakes, shimmies, vibrations, or rattles.
The headlights, marker lights, brake lights, and signal lights are all properly functioning.
All of the gauges are properly functioning.
Overall, this is a very solid car, in a very unusual color. I would not hesitate driving the car anywhere.

Erebus Motorsport Mercedes E-Class V8 Supercar completes the field [w/videos]
Sat, 23 Feb 2013Ford, Holden and Nissan introduced their V8 Supercar challengers a while back. Erebus Motorport, whose racing program got the green light not even 120 days ago, has finally shown off the Mercedes-Benz E-Class racer that will complete this year's field of entries. The first AMG race car ever to be built outside of Germany, it's an Australian-built tube-frame chassis specced to the series' Car of Tomorrow rules, fitted with body panels that channel the E63 AMG.
Supported by AMG Customer Motorsport, the 5.0-liter engine is provided by HWA in Germany, the racing arm of AMG. Regulations dictate that it have roughly 650 horsepower, a redline between 7,000 and 7,500 rpm and a torque curve that matches the parity baseline set for all cars.
Lee Holdsworth, Tim Slade and Maro Engel will drive the three team cars, each with different sponsors. Their first showing will be at the Clipsal 500 on March 3 in Adelaide, here in the US we'll get to see them in May at the Circuit of the Americas. Check out the videos below of the Erebus car starting up at its launch, and footage of all of this year's cars doing pre-season testing on track together.
The 10 car brands most expensive to maintain over 10 years
Mon, Apr 22 2024Car maintenance has got to be one of the least fun things you can do with your free time, right behind going to the dentist and filing your taxes. However, depending on the brand you buy, your time spent at the shop could be much more than you bargained for. Consumer Reports’ new study on the most- and least-expensive-to-maintain car brands found that European car companies are most likely to break your wallet with costs nearly five times that of the automakers at the other end of the spectrum. Land Rover had the highest ten-year maintenance costs, at an average of $19,250. Porsche was second worst with $14,090 in costs. 10 car brands most expensive to maintain over 10 years: Land Rover: $19,250 Porsche: $14,090 Mercedes-Benz: $10,525 Audi: $9,890 BMW: $9,500 Volvo: $9,285 Infiniti: $8,500 Acura: $7,800 Mini: $7,625 Subaru: $7,200 The Euro brands at the “top” of this list arenÂ’t all that surprising. Land Rover has consistently landed as one of the most expensive vehicle brands to maintain for years now, though Porsche is generally viewed as being one of the more solid performance brands. That could suggest that some models donÂ’t always require more repairs, but the fixes they do need are significantly more expensive. Tesla, Buick, and Toyota were the three cheapest to maintain car brands, with 10-year maintenance costs of $4,035, $4,900, and $4,900, respectively. Consumer Reports noted that these numbers could be slightly skewed due to the fact that some automakers offer free maintenance for the first few years of ownership, and all companies cover their new vehicles for at least a few years after the purchase. Routine maintenance is a great way to avoid costly repairs over time, as itÂ’s much cheaper to catch a problem before it starts causing other issues. Check your oil, rotate your tires, and avoid driving like a wild person, and youÂ’ll likely fare much better than others, even if you own one of the scarier-to-maintain brands.
