Thanks for looking at our auction - we are an estate sale company based in Fairfield County, CT , occasionally we get cars from estates and post them on eBay . . . . THIS CAR IS AN AMAZING FIND . . .we just purchased this car from an estate in New York City . . .it was part of a beautiful estate on the Upper West Side of Manhattan (Riverside Drive) . . . This is a 1983 Mercedes Benz 300D Turbo Diesel . . with an AMAZING 93,887 ORIGINAL MILES . . .it was owned and driven by an elderly man (80 y/o) who was the original owner . . . it was ALWAYS garaged (NEVER parked on streets of New York City). . . and was never driven in snow or bad weather . . . . this is the 1st time in its life that it has been offered for sale. . . . when the attorney called me to go look at the estate he said "there is some old car down in the garage, that needs to go too". . . .when I arrived I had no idea what the car was. .make . .year. .model. . .nothing. . . . .I started doing the assessment of the property . .(this family had beautiful items and exquisite taste). . . . while looking through a desk drawer I found an old insurance card listing the car as a 1983 Merc . . .I figured it was a Mercury . .when I went down to the garage . . .I saw the car over in the corner. . backed into a space . .with a car cover on it . . .I was AMAZED when I picked up a corner of the cover to discover it was of course a MERCedes. . .not a MERCury like I had thought. . . . .the car was shiny . .clean and incredibly well preserved . . . . .this is like a "barn find" . . .the car is ABSOLUTELY STOCK and all original. . . . . . paint. . . interior. . .original Becker Europa cassette deck. . . all original. . . chrome bumpers are beautiful. . .I retrieved the key from a hook in the kitchen. . . .went back down to the garage . . .put jumper cables from my minivan on it. . . .put the key in. . .and it started . . . .IT RAN GREAT. . . . my Dad drove it back to Connecticut for us . . .he reported that it was a pleasure to drive (and even contemplated keeping it). . .he said the suspension was quiet . . the steering was nice and tight (no play or wobble). . . . .nice smooth and solid. . . the vin is WDBAB33A9DB020499 . . . .GARAGE KEPT SINCE NEW . . . (it appears it was registered in Connecticut at one time. . .he had a weekend house in Old Saybrook,CT). . . . it was driven once or twice a week by its previous owner (never sat unused for long periods, just used very little), the car is 100% original . . .nice deep shiny burgundy color exterior with beige interior. . . runs and drives great . . .. . . . transmission shifts fine. . .and the engine runs excellent (starts instantly and runs smooth and maintains proper temperature), brakes are prefect. . .. .interior is VERY clean, no rips, stains or wear, and was NEVER SMOKED in (lighter and ashtray unused) . . . naturally there are the usual small dings, scrapes, dents and flaws and one rust spot behind drivers wheel well . . .flaws on car overall are VERY minor . . .PLEASE SEE PHOTO OF THE JACKING POINT. . . .all four jacking points look the same NO RUST . . .from what I researched these cars were known to rust there. . . . . spare tire is fine . . .first aid kit never used . . .even the original Mercedes Benz tool kit is there. . . .as you can see from the photos the paint is and the interior is beautiful (car was NOT detailed or cleaned up) . .its just how we got it . . . . it features 5-cylinder turbo diesel engine, automatic transmission, a/c (blows cool) - p/s - p/b - p/locks p/win - p/sunroof . . .ALL windows work and power locks work. . . .we have all the owners books and manuals . . .we have a few service records. . . .but with this low mileage. . .it probably didn't have or need much service. . . .I know that people buy these to convert to run on waste oil. . . .this would be perfect for that. . . I think a fair price is $1500 to start . . . . and selling NO RESERVE. It has a clear New York title and bill of sale - OVERALL this is a great car . . . . . and an amazing find. . . .Thank You!!

Is Audi getting complacent and suffering from brain drain?

The argument is made in a Reuters article: Audi is falling behind other luxury brands, such as Mercedes-Benz and BMW, due to a lack of research-and-development spending and "brain drain," or the migration of top executives and R&D chiefs to other parts of the Volkswagen Group. Reuters notes that Audi's current R&D chief is the third in 16 months.
Audi, which contributed to 40 percent of VW Group's $11.6 billion in profit the first nine months of the year, is delivering cars at a record pace: 1.31 million were delivered from January to October 2013 versus BMW's 1.35 million. Yet Audi, Reuters reports, doesn't have a halo car akin to BMW's new electrified i3 and i8 or an answer to Mercedes' plug-in-hybrid S-Class, and the R&D spending at Audi is less than BMW and Mercedes by a fair margin. It's noted in the article, however, that Audi benefits from other R&D spending within VW Group.
Reuters mentions that BMW "trumpets its new 'i' series" and the new Mercedes CLA and GLA ranges are winning "rave reviews" as part of its argument that Audi's recent lack of technological innovation could hurt future sales. Those cars do pack tons of new technology, some of which are firsts for mainstream production cars. But last time we checked, the i3 could be causing BMW's stock to slide, the CLA isn't receiving the rave reviews that Reuters would have you believe and the GLA hasn't been reviewed yet.
