I bought this gorgeous 123 series coupe almost 4 years ago from the original owner . It was finished in the gorgeous color combination of Orient red ( MB color code 501 ) with Palomino color MB tex interior ( MB code 154) . I have not seen another 300CD in this color yet . It is truly stunning and when i saw it , i bought it on the spot .  I never planned on selling this car and pampered and maintained it accordingly . The original owner always garaged the car and even in the garage had a cover on it . The first 30 years have been really good to this wonderful coupe and i hope the next owner will continue to treat it the same way . With 2 young children now i just need a bigger car and  purchased a Mercedes wagon . The body of my 300cd is in perfect condition . There is no rust , no dents and no dings at all . The paint still shines like new and people are commenting on it every day . The chrome is in outstanding condition all around . All the rubber seals are in great shape . The interior is extremely clean . There are no rips or tears in the seats and they are still firm . The carpets are very clean , just like the headliner and the door panels . The dashboard is perfect and the wood is still like new . All the gauges and lights work the way they should . The AC works and blows from all the vents. To summarize it all , my car truly looks amazing all around . But the best thing about it is the way it drives . There are only 148k miles on it and it has always been maintained properly . There is no deferred maintenance and i could not think of anything it needs . It always starts up right away , idles the way it should and has lots of power . This 300CD is not slow at all and cruises comfortably at 90 mph all day long . It is truly a pleasure to drive in town and even more on the freeway . There are no oil leaks and the tires have about 90% left on them . This car would be a perfect candidate for a Mercedes collector or investor. Clean 123 series coupes and station wagons have been rising in value over the last few years and should continue to do so . You just do not find any clean ones with low mileage like this anymore . Another gorgeous example just sold this weekend here on Ebay for $23.000,- . My Buy it Now price of $ 16950,- is well below that , since the other car had even less miles on it . My car would also be good for somebody who would want to drive it every day and put another 300k miles on it . It drives terrific as it is and these car require very little maintenance as far as classic cars go . They are known to go for over 500k miles with the proper care . The car also comes with the records , the books pictured and even the original window sticker.  I would really prefer to sell this car here locally to somebody who could come by and see it . But i would also be willing to help with shipping arrangements should the winning bidder decide to have the car shipped . I would have no worries driving this car across country tomorrow. It is an amazing 30 year old classic car and as such it will be sold " as is " and without a warranty . Please have your funding in order and do all your " due diligence" BEFORE placing a bid . I have described this car to the best of my knowledge and after having put on 24k miles within the last 4 years. The license plates in the pictures are private plates and have been replaced with regular CA license plates already . If you have any questions , feel free to send me a note through Ebay and i will respond quickly . Thank you for looking at my auction …

Car dealers, factories and ports close in the path of Hurricane Florence

Thu, Sep 13 2018

Hurricane Florence has caused CarMax to close four stores in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The closed locations are in Myrtle Beach, Charleston, Winterville and Virginia Beach. It is possible for the company to close more stores, reports Automotive News. Daimler and Volvo have also shuttered their manufacturing facilities in the region to prepare for Florence. The storm is expected to reach North Carolina and South Carolina today or tomorrow. Automotive News says every coastal car dealer it reached on Tuesday was closing, and others not in the projected landfall area were monitoring the situation. There are approximately nine million vehicles in operation in the area that Florence is expected to hit, with a vehicle density of 162 vehicles per square mile. It is likely that not as many vehicles will be lost as during hurricanes Harvey and Irma, as population is less dense; areas affected by those storms had over 300 vehicles per square mile. The chief economist of Cox Automotive told Automotive News that some 20,000 to 40,000 vehicles could end up flooded if Florence keeps its path; however, recent reports have indicated Florence has weakened to a category 2 hurricane on Thursday. Tesla has again unlocked more range for some of its older models to make evacuation easier; the same was done a year ago in preparation for Hurricane Irma. As well as automotive manufacturers and dealers, automotive transport providers are readying for the storm and clearing cargo away. The container and auto terminals at Port Charleston will be closed from Thursday to Saturday, affecting part shipments to the BMW manufacturing facility in Spartanburg; BMW's spokespersons have said no production disruption is expected. Parts are delivered via railroad to Spartanburg by Norfolk Southern, which is also suspending operations for the time being. Vehicle hauler United Road has moved its rigs to safer regions and suspended deliveries, and car carrier vessels are trying to make it away from the storm's path in time. Petrolicious shows Mercedes 280SL as architecture in motion

Wed, Jun 17 2015

While still an absolute beauty today, the design of the pagoda-roof W113 Mercedes-Benz SL was revolutionary when it debuted. Moving away from the soft curves of the previous SL models, the all-new generation brought an upright, angular shape that was as much architectural as automotive. In the latest video from Petrolicious, owner and architect Daniel Monti expounds on the inspiration that he gets from his 1969 280SL's fantastic styling. The roof is the most famous design feature of this generation of SL. Look at the top from the front or back, and you can see a gentle, downward arc that evokes the look of a pagoda. That one styling element is also a fabulous counterpoint to a vehicle that is largely more angular than curvaceous. Petrolicious wonderfully illustrates how some of the SL's form-follows-function design aesthetic can be found in the architect's work in this video's heaping helping of mid-century modern goodness.

Daimler employees can set email to auto-delete during vacation

Mon, 18 Aug 2014

The Internet has shrunk the world in terms of the way people communicate by making it possible to send an email from Oslo and have it show up in Cleveland almost immediately. But that instant contact has wrecked the work/life balance for many. They get home from a long day at the office, yet they can never fully put their feet up and relax because another hour or more of checking and replying to emails awaits. However, German automotive giant Daimler is putting an end to that churn, at least while its employees are on vacation.
About 100,000 Daimler employees in Germany are eligible to opt-in to a new program called Mail on Holiday, according to The Atlantic. When the workers go on vacation, they can switch it on, and the service auto-deletes all of their incoming email. "Our employees should relax on holiday and not read work-related emails," said Wilfried Porth, board member for human resources, to The Financial Times as cited by The Atlantic.
Mail on Holiday puts a thumb on the scale of work/life balance in favor of a little more free time. The system means that Daimler employees shouldn't even be tempted to check their email on vacation because there's nothing there - and it also avoids them coming back from a relaxing holiday only to find a mailbox packed full of hundreds of unread messages. These days, people are absolutely obsessed with their work, often to the detriment of their health, not to mention spending time with their families and friends. On one hand, Mail on Holiday sounds like the sort of vacation breakthrough we'd need to truly unplug and unwind, but on the other hand, it makes our skin crawl just thinking about the lack of communication. What's your perspective? Have your say in Comments.
