“The 300TD was built on the storied W123 platform, and served as the “E Class” from 1977 to 1985. The lines on W123s are timeless: Straight and clean with tasteful chrome, the W123 sits upright and looks equally suited to taking on unpaved back roads and corporate parking lots. This is a cruising car in the purest sense, as it will wallow through turns but provide absolute comfort on the bumpiest roads.

The choice model of the W123 is the 300TD, the classic shape powered by a 5-cylinder turbo-charged diesel engine. The 300TD reminds us why Mercedes was once the gold standard — it is not uncommon to find these cars pushing 500,000 miles. The OM617 fitted to the 300TD is one of the most reliable engines ever built. Truthfully, these engines don’t need exceptional maintenance, but servicing them at regular intervals will help keep them ticking for decades.” -Hagerty.com-Affordable Classics

About The Car

Born 1/82 in Sindelfingen Germany, this wonderful example of one of the best cars ever made has spent it’s entire life in California. Bought new on 4/22/1982 at Butts Imports of Santa Barbara, Ca with a documented MSRP of $35,452 (over $85k in 2014 dollars). Original Owners Manual, Stamped Service Booklet, Warranty Booklet and Window sticker are included as part of the cars’ documentation. Clean CARFAX report showing no accident history. This car has stayed in California and within the original owners’ family until now. Clean and clear California title.

Engine

With only 171k miles, the Legendary 3.0 Turbo Diesel om617 Engine starts effortlessly, hot or cold and reflects years of proper maintenance and responsible owners exercising proper warm up and cool down techniques. No excessive smoke at start-up, blow-by or oil leaks. This car has never been run on Veggie Oil, NEVER! Has optional plug-in block heater. Has stock A/C unit which is 100% intact but the r12 refrigerant is tired. An upgrade to r134a is recommended. Heater/defrost functions work perfectly. We have just performed a major service (less than 100 miles) with a valve adjustment, diesel purge, five new Bosch glow plugs, New 1000cca Battery from NAPA, new OEM fuel filters, fuel lines, oil change (Mobil Delvac 15w40) and new Mann Oil Filter and Air Filter. The engine runs smooth and the turbo delivers more than adequate power ensuring a proper driving experience. Transmission has been serviced with new fluid, filter and gasket, and shifts crisply and on time with no slipping. New General p205/70r14 Tires on factory 14x6.5 alloy wheels last year. Ready to be driven anywhere.

Interior

Original Tan MB Tex (Mercedes-Benz Texturized Punctured Vinyl) interior is in fine condition, showing only minimal signs of use over the last 3 decades. Because this car was fortunate enough to be owned by responsible, non-smoking owners that always garaged it, the upholstery is in beautiful shape with very little wear and virtually zero “bleaching” from the sun as most others of this era display. The car smells fresh and clean. The upholstery is clean and has been conditioned.  Carpet is in great shape with no rips or cigarette burns. There is slight evidence of wear on the rear cargo area, specifically the spare tire cover. The dark brown dashpad has some very minor splits up towards the windshield from the California sun, and slight aging of the wood trim but both still show very well. Optional 3rd row seating looks virtually unused. Perfect Door panels x4. Vacuum operated door locks function properly, even after sitting for a few days. Aftermarket Pioneer CD Player. All gauges, clock, switches work as normal.

Body

The original classic white (classicweiss) code 737 enamel paint shines beautifully and has always been properly cleaned and waxed. The body is straight and has zero rust issues. Original windshield with factory decals. All chrome and trim is present and in fine condition. Roof mounted luggage rack shows virtually no signs of use. Rubber trim and door seals are all in good condition.

2016 Mercedes-Benz C450 AMG Sport is not too hot, not too cold

Mon, Jan 12 2015

Mercedes-Benz is moving to a new system for performance models, launching its AMG Sport line that will slot above the standard cars, but below the full-fledged Mercedes-AMG offerings. The perfect example of how this all looks can be seen with the C-Class – we've already driven (and enjoyed) the standard C300 and C400 offerings, and we're absolutely geeked to test the Mercedes-AMG C63. Slotting in the middle, though, is this new C450 AMG Sport, which makes its debut at the Detroit Auto Show this week. Power comes from the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 found in the C400, but output is increased to 362 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque – up from 329 and 354, respectively. That's all shuffled through the company's 7G-Tronic seven-speed automatic transmission, and sent to the road via 4Matic all-wheel drive. Hitting 60 miles per hour is said to take just 4.9 seconds, en route to a 155-mph top end. There's an AMG adaptive sport suspension with adjustable dampers (from the C63), and the interior and exterior aesthetics have been pumped up for a more sporting appearance. It all seems like a good fit, and we think it'll slot nicely in the middle of the already good C-Class range. Check out our fresh batch of lives images of the C450 above. Mercedes surprised Hamilton with this steering wheel message

Tue, Nov 25 2014

Lewis Hamilton had much to celebrate at the end of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this past weekend. Not only did he win the race in commanding form (the 33rd in his career to make him the fifth most successful in Formula One history), but he also scored enough points (double on the season finale this year) to outpace his teammate and chief rival to win the world championship. Having already been crowned champion in 2008, that makes him one of only sixteen drivers to have won multiple world titles. It's a point his team at Mercedes didn't want him to miss, so on the cool-down lap at the end of the race, his pit crew radioed him the message "default 44" – an instruction that triggered this image to appear on the display in the middle of his steering wheel. Apparently Lewis, with plenty else on his mind (like getting his car back to the parc ferme in one piece and with enough fuel), didn't notice what was flashing in front of him. Superimposed, as you can see, over an image of Hamilton as a young lad still in karts is Lewis' name alongside those of the other two-time world champs: Jim Clark, Graham Hill, Emerson Fittipaldi, Alberto Ascari, Fernando Alonso and Mika Hakkinen. (Never mind those who've scored more than two titles.) Intriguingly, Hakkinen is the only other one among them to have won either of his titles under Mercedes power like Lewis did, though Fangio won two of his five titles motivated by Benz engines.

Win a car while supporting a charity this holiday season

Thu, Dec 9 2021

Autoblog may receive a share from purchases made via links on this page. Pricing and availability are subject to change. No donation or payment necessary to enter or win this sweepstakes. See official rules on Omaze.  The leaves have fallen, there is a crispness to the air and there have already been multiple forecasts of snow, which can only mean one thing: We're coming up on Christmas. While you've been busy thinking about what kind of gifts you're going to give your loved ones, we here at Autoblog have been deciding which dream car we'd like to see in our driveway on Christmas morning. A car for Christmas does seem a bit extreme and expensive, but thanks to these Omaze sweepstakes, it doesn't have to break the bank. Here are the current sweepstakes we'd like to win this holiday season. Win a DeLorean DMC-12 - Enter at Omaze James Riswick, West Coast Editor: Let me be clear, the DeLorean is a pretty terrible car. Its speedometer doesn't even go up to the fabled 88 mph. Seriously, look at the pictures: tops out at 85. Also, who services a DeLorean? And how much would it cost to maintain one? $AlloftheMoney or just $MostoftheMoney? So owning it could be a total headache, but at least by winning one through Omaze, you'd be relieved of the financial burden of buying one in the first place. You'd also get the chance to own one of the most iconic cars of all time, one that transcends car enthusiasm and is instantly recognizable by everyone as the "Back to the Future" car. Plus, "everyone" doesn't know that the DeLorean was actually a pretty terrible car. So, I already own James Bond's car from 1995, why not Doc Brown's from 1985? Win a 2021 Bentley Bentayga V8 - Enter at Omaze Eddie Sabatini, Production Manager: Why am I choosing a +$200K Bentley SUV? Because even if I could afford one I'd never be able to wrap my head around spending money on one. So why not try to win one by donating what I can afford to a good cause? I first saw the Bentley Bentayga up close and personal at the Frankfurt Motor Show (I forget which year but I'll never forget this SUV). And although it looks like the Bentayga Omaze is offering up doesn't have the opulent tailgate setup I fell in love with when I saw it in Frankfurt, I'd still enter to win. Win a 1968 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Pagoda - Enter at Omaze Byron Hurd, Editor: Few automotive marketing efforts stick out in my head more than the Mercedes-Benz holiday spots and magazine placements.
