1982 Mercedes-benz 300d Base Sedan 4-door 3.0l on 2040-cars
Canton, Georgia, United States
I bought this car from the estate of the original owner 2 1/2 years ago. It had 86k original miles. The original owner was a Delta Pilot who had ordered this car from Mercedes-Benz in Germany and brought it to the States in his cargo hold. I have the tin stamp with his name, date of order and date of delivery. He had lovingly maintained the the car and kept it garaged. This car has been my wife's daily commuter and our family trip car. She has a brutal commute in Atlanta traffic with a round trip of 90 miles everyday. She has averaged 24-26 mpg regularly and on trips we have averaged 29-32 mpg. I bought this car for her because she had had three late model cars totaled out in four years in minor accidents which is not remarkable given her daily long commute in Atlanta traffic and the fact that modern cars are designed to crumple up in even minor collisions. By the time the insurance adjusters finish summing up the cost of replacing air bags and all the plastic components that have to be replaced they give you a check that will not replace the car you had. It gave me peace of mind that she was driving a tank. Alas, she now wants a newer car and subsequently the only reason I am selling this reliable and safe vehicle. The car now has 171k miles, which is very few for this drive train . I have taken care of all the typical issues of this model era and given that it is 32 years old. The original owner was in poor health the last few years of his life and thus the car was not driven much in those years. The tires looked new but were dry rotted. I expected that rubber parts would have to be replaced so I replaced rubber parts including all the door seals and drive belts and some radiator hoses. I also went through the entire vacuum system checking for leaks in lines and replaced every rubber connector. I have also replaced all the door lock actuators including the trunk lock. I rebuilt the vacuum pump and replaced all the valves in the system with the exception of the fuel shut off valve which is intermittent in shutting off the engine right away when the ignition key is turned to off. On other occasions it will diesel a few seconds before it shuts the engine down. This is not unusual for any diesel engine. Since I have had the car I have changed the oil regularly with premium synthetic oil and OEM filters. The other things I have done in the past 2 1/2 years are the sort of things you can expect to replace on any of the Mercedes-Benz diesels of this era besides the vacuum system, drive belts and door seals which I have already mentioned. Here are the other repairs/replacements I have done: Replaced the AC compressor, condenser and dryer and valves for modern R134 coolant. Replaced power steering pump and lines. Replaced the glow plugs and heater relay switch. Replaced radiator thermostat and thermostat hose. Replaced headlights, tail lights and instrument panel lights. Rebuilt entire brake system including: master cylinder, booster, all brake calipers and flexible lines. In the past three months: I have had major transmission service done including: replacing the hydraulic pump, torque converter and all seals. Replaced the lead exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold to resonator. The tires were replaced in the last year. All brake pads replaced in past three months. An engine purge which cleans fuel injectors, intake and exhaust valves and new fuel filters were installed along with all the braided rubber fuel return lines. The intake and exhaust valves have just been adjusted just in the last month. A new heavy duty, high cranking amp battery was installed in the past year. A new modern radio with cd player, with auxiliary and usb port installed in past year. This car is in exceptional mechanical condition and is ready for you to be its new daily driver. The body and interior are also in remarkable condition. The reserve price is exceptionally low considering the major repairs/replacements that have been done and keep in mind these are the issues you will address when buying this era of Mercedes. It is my opinion that the 1980's Mercedes Diesels were the best cars they ever made and are the only lifetime car you will ever find. It is incredible how many of these cars are still on the road as daily drivers. Payment will be done through Paypal. I will work with the winning bidder on arrangements for delivery.

Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive gets official US launch
Mon, Jul 21 2014It's finally time to plug in the first production Mercedes-Benz-branded electric vehicle in the US. The Daimler division, which also sells a few of its battery-electric Smart ForTwo vehicles here in the states, has officially launched sales of the Mercedes-Benz B-Class ED. Even better, the US will be the first market in the world to give the general public access to the new plug-in. As with many other EV debuts, the flyover states will have to wait a bit. Mercedes-Benz is only selling the B-Class ED in 10 coastal states, including California, Oregon, New York, New Jersey, Maryland and Maine, and hasn't said anything about when a broader release might happen. Earlier this month, the US Department of Energy rated the B-Class electric with an 87-mile single-charge range, which is comparable to that of the Nissan Leaf and BMW i3. The other shoe dropped, though, when it was revealed that the model has an 84 miles per gallon equivalent rating, which is about 30 percent less then both of those other EVs. The culprit for the model, which puts out 177 horsepower and has a base price of $41,150, is its heavier curb weight. Check out Autoblog's "First Drive" impressions here.
Carlsson SLK 340 Judd is winged up for hill climb glory
Wed, 06 Mar 2013Carlsson has been expertly tuning Mercedes-Benz products for more than 20 years now, but we can't say as we remember the outfit turning out anything quite so racy as this SLK 340 Judd that it has brought along to the Geneva Motor Show this year.
This SLK is meant for competition, obviously, and Carlsson has already booked the car to race in several hill climb events in the E1 category. The purpose-built racer should have a fighting chance to do well in said races, with a shape vetted in wind tunnel testing for maximum downforce, the SLK uses a carbon-fiber bodyshell to help achieve a curb weight of just about 1,720 pounds.
The featherweight SLK's name comes from its 3.4-liter V8 engine, which churns out a wicked 610 horsepower to go with its 317 pound-feet of torque. A Hewland transmission with paddle shift operation manages all of the thrust.
Race Recap: 2015 Canadian F1 Grand Prix is better behind the front
Mon, Jun 8 2015As of Saturday afternoon in Montreal, Canada, it was all about the number four. Lewis Hamilton put his Mercedes-AMG Petronas on pole position for the fourth time at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, and now his tally of pole positions matches his race number: 44. Nico Rosberg lines up beside him, which is the fourth time that particular one-two combo has occurred this season. Ferrari spent three engine development tokens to try and close the gap to Mercedes, Kimi Raikkonen making the most of it with third position on the gird. His teammate Sebastian Vettel got the worst of it, however, when the MGU-K unit failed during Q1, leaving him 160 horsepower down and out at the first hurdle. Valtteri Bottas put a revitalized Williams on the grid at fourth, ahead of a Lotus lockout of the third row with Romain Grosjean leading the way in fifth, Pastor Maldonado just beside. Nico Hulkenberg got the first Sahara Force India into seventh – the team is still waiting on the upgraded B car that should be available for Austria – ahead of Daniil Kvyat in the first Infiniti Red Bull Racing and a "pissed off" Daniel Ricciardo in the second Red Bull. Sergio Perez made it two Force Indias in the top ten, a welcome result from a team performing below expectations of late. When the lights went out, at the very front it was much ado about not that much at all. Hamilton got away clean and stabbed across the track to close the door for Rosberg, giving Raikkonen a chance to take the inside line into Turn 1 in an attempt to clear Rosberg for second place. That didn't happen, leaving the two Mercedes' to run in grid position for the entire race. It wasn't boring – Rosberg stayed close, rubber-banding the time gap to the leader from a little more than one second to just under four seconds, and Montreal is famous for race-rearranging safety cars and on-track incidents. But none of those occurred, so Hamilton crossed the line 2.285 seconds ahead of Rosberg after 70 laps to earn his fourth victory in Canada and the first-ever victory for the Brackley, UK-based Mercedes team. Valtteri Bottas drove his Williams to third position, the first podium place for the team this year and a welcome salve to heal the team's wounds from a poor showing in Monaco. That placing came courtesy of being in the right place at the right time, which was not far behind Raikkonen when the Ferrari driver spun at the hairpin on Lap 28 after his first pit stop.
