This car was originally sold by RBM of Atlanta to Thomas D'Alessio. He sold it to the father of the man who I bought it from. The previous owner's father was a Mercedes mechanic and the car was passed to his son when he died. It was meticulously maintained with every service and oil change recorded through his ownership and from the first service at RBM. Every page of the service book is completed. When the son had the car he embarked on a comprehensive maintenance and restoration project starting in 2005 and mostly complete by 2009. He did this as a tribute to his father whom he knew had cherished and maintained the car. His car licence plate read: FORMYDAD
There are pages and pages of receipts for the part that he purchased for the car during his ownership. I have not gone through the entire list of receipts but the total dollars spent must be huge. Some items have been replaced several times during his ownership.
The car was stripped to bare metal, doors and fenders removed and painted in the factory cream color. The paint is of a very high quality. There are no door dings or scratches in the paint. All new cad plated hardware was used for re-fastening the body parts. New cad plated door, hood, trunk latches were installed. Every rubber part on the car was replaced. Window, door seals , trunk seals, everything is new. New anodized trim was replaced on the body. The only items not re-done are the front and rear bumpers. There are some scratches on the front bumper. All glass is very nice. Grill parts have been replaced and look like new.
He re-built the engine and transmission in August of 2005, The engine had over 210,000 miles at that time. Currently it has 226,900 miles. The exhaust system was also replaced at this time. In January of 2005 he completed a rebuild of the complete rear end. The list of items is extensive, but includes, cv axles, re-balance drive shaft, new sub frame mounts, rear shocks, torsion bar and bushings, differential mount, park brake cables, rear coil springs and mounts, and more. Tires have good tread but have not been replaced recently.
From 2005 to 2013 many more items were replaced along with meticulous maintenance for standard items. A new PAC automatic climate control system was installed. All A/C componnets have been replaced. The steering box and bushings are replaced. Brake calipers were replaced.
The list of small mechanical items is endless. The vacuum system has been completely re-done and all vacuum is very strong.
The interior has had a great amount of attention. Many switches and other parts are new, like turn signal stalk, cruise control stalk. Re-finished wood. New carpet. The dash is original and there are several cracks in the dash. The seat leather is original and there are some cracks in the driver, passenger and at the top center of the rear seat. Overall the upholstery is still very nice and would only need to be replaced if you wanted the car to be perfect. Headliner has no damage just some staining.
Everything in the car works as it should.
The trunk is spotless with new carpet and rubber mat. The jack and tool kit are with the car as is the un-used spare.
Underside of the car is very clean with no signs of ever having any rust. Many of the new drivetrain and suspension components are visible in the photos.
This is as well presented as any of these cars that I have seen. I can't imagine another 300d that could have had as many components replaced as on this car. Along with the continued high level of maintenance that this car has received, I would imagine that it will provide very many miles of good service for the next owner.
The car has it's 250,000 kilometer award from Merceds Benz Cassic .

Mercedes caught testing stretched E-Class Maybach
Fri, Aug 21 2015The Mercedes-Maybach S600 won't be the only vehicle to wear the hyphenated name of two of the world's automotive luxury greats. That hulking S-Class will soon be joined by an E-Class variant, which should offer the same touch of subtle luxury as its big brother. At least, that's what we're guessing based on the latest round of spy photos, showing a stretched E-Class with some very telling camouflage. Pay attention, as our spies did, to the rear doors and C-pillar. Like the Maybach S600, the E-Class model features a larger quarter window, although unlike the S, the doors here look to be a bit larger than your usual E550 or E250. Also take note of the heavy tint on those rear windows. It's likely there to obscure whatever sumptuous hides and warm woods Maybach has fitted to the typically business-class interior. While the interior materials are likely to see sweeping changes, expect Mercedes to treat the exterior with a much gentler touch. There'll probably be some unique wheels and C-pillar-mounted Maybach badges, like what we've already seen on the S600. Check out the full round of spy photos up top, and stay tuned for more on the latest Mercedes-Maybach. Related Video:
Brabus to storm Geneva with 800-hp version of Mercedes SL65 AMG
Wed, 27 Feb 2013At no point during our recent drive of the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG did we ever think, "You know, this thing sure is slow." After all, Merc's range-topping SL comes fitted with a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 capable of sending 621 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels. But just in case you're still all "meh" about what the SL65 throws down, Brabus will gladly come to your rescue with this, the 800 Roadster.
As its name suggests, the 800 Roadster ups the V12's power figures to 800 horsepower and - wait for it - 1,047 pound-feet of torque. Don't get too excited, though - that torque number has been electronically limited to a measly 811 lb-ft since, you know, the transmission would probably explode if you tried to put the full force through it. Nevertheless, these represent increases of 79 hp and 73 lb-ft over the standard SL65, and that means the 800 Roadster can shoot to 62 miles per hour in just 3.7 seconds - two-tenths of a second quicker than the Merc its based on. More impressively, hitting 124 mph takes just under 10 seconds, and the droptop will finally top out at an electronically limited - limited! - 217 mph. Holy smokes.
To manage all of that speed, Brabus has engineered a special carbon fiber aero kit that reduces lift, and a unique control module for the SL65's active body control suspension lowers the ride height by one full inch. The 800 Roadster rides on new 20-inch wheels, and a unique limited-slip rear differential was added, featuring a 40 percent locking rate that further enhances performance when you're attempting to control the beast at its limits. Interior upgrades include new leather and alcantara surfaces throughout the cabin, including a leather-clad trunk.
Autoblog's adventures at the Nurburgring 24-Hour race [spoilers]
Wed, May 20 2015The brand-new Audi R8 LMS, said to share 50 percent of its components with the street-legal R8 shown off at Geneva, has won its very first race at the 2015 Nurburgring 24-Hours. The No. 28 car driven by Christopher Mies, Edward Sandstrom, Nico Muller, and Laurens Vanthoor for the Audi Sport WRT team out of Belgium finished only 40.279 seconds ahead of the No. 25 BMW Sport Team Marc VDS Z4 GT3 in second place, for the smallest winning gap since the race began in 1970. Those two cars traded the lead throughout Sunday morning and were less than a minute away from one another for the last two hours. They were part of a total 35 lead changes during the entire race – a record for the event – and both did 156 laps. Third place went to the No. 44 Falken Tire Porsche 997 GT3, one lap down. The Audis did what they always do: lurked close to the front, stayed out of trouble, then pounced when everyone else faltered. For the opening stretches the BMW Z4 teams owned it, running 1-2-3 for a while, but all of them hit trouble. When morning came and the race got over its yellow-flag fever, the No. 28 Audi was in front and stayed there. It was the third Nurburgring 24-Hour win for Audi in four years, the brand's first win only coming in 2012. Last year's winner, the Phoenix Audi team that set a race record by doing 159 laps, had both of its cars retire. One hit an oil patch about 12 hours in, spun and was hit by another car behind, taking on too much damage to continue. The other retired with engine issues. Other Notes Three cars crashed out of the race while leading, after the rains that weren't supposed to happen, happened about 90 minutes in. The No. 20 Schubert BMW Z4 led the first 50 minutes of the race, hopped a crest at Pflanzgarten, landed in a pool of water, and hit the wall on the 30th lap. Then the No. 30 Frikadelli Porsche, with a driver team that included ex-'Ring Taxi driver Sabine Schmitz, hit the No. 31 Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 on the approach to Carrousel and crashed out. Then the No. 1 Phoenix Audi, last year's winning car, took the lead but hit the wall after that oil patch near Pflanzgarten and was out of the race. Aston Martin celebrated a class win in the SP8 category with the No. 49 Vantage GT4 N430. This being the tenth anniversary of the Vantage running the Nurburgring-24, this year's car was painted in the same colors as the racecar from ten years ago.
