1992 Mercedes-benz 190e 2.6 Sedan 4-door 2.6l on 2040-cars
Los Angeles, California, United States
This car runs and looks great; I'm selling it for a close friend that has to sell the car, because he is moving out of state. He bought it a couple of years ago from a reseller that repaired and painted the car after an accident in which the rear quarter panel was damaged and the car was considered a total, even though it was basically a fender-bender, so it has a salvage title. The engine runs great and the car rides well. The A/C quit working and we think it needs a recharge of freon, but are not sure. The powered passenger window does not go up and down. Everything else on the car works; it has an aftermarket radio as you can see in the photos; there is some sort of computer hookup on the passenger side; I think it's for an iPod; my friend never used it, so I cannot verify if it works. The cap for the windshield washer reservoir is missing which you can also see in the photos, as well as a couple of scratches on the black bumpers. I also took a photo of the age cracks of the rubber around the side mirrors. The interior is in good shape, no tears, but needs cleaning. The tires were purchased new 6 months ago. He loves the car, but, as I said, has to sell it to fund his trip across country. Payment by PayPal is preferred, please; please contact me if you need to make other arrangements. $500 deposit due within 24 hours of auction close. Balance is due within 3 days of auction close. Car will be released when payment clears. Also, I just looked a the history report after I listed the vehicle, and it says it has a lien on because it was a leased vehicle in 1994; this lien had been satisfied over 10 years ago and this car has a clean title and my friend owns it free and clear.

Leno shows off his current project cars
Mon, Aug 10 2015When your car collection grows to the enormous size of Jay Leno's, adding the usual muscle cars or European exotics loses the allure. It becomes necessary to start taking the things in weird directions. Leno is proving just that with his latest tour of many of the ongoing projects currently happening in the garage. With everything from Harley-Davidson generators to '50s hot rods on display just in this short video, there's something any fan can love. The place is like an automotive wonderland. For most people any one of these projects would be an absolute dream. For example, Leno has a copy of a one-off Mercedes-Benz racecar transporter that is nearly ready to drive. Another project hasn't even started yet but already seriously piqued our interest. Leno obtained a very ratty 1966 Volvo 122S wagon, but rather than just a restoration he's has a plan to get a V8 with a flat-plane crank from Volvo performance specialists Polestar. Another project on the way should provide a significant upgrade in performance, while still being quite green. Leno's team has already rebuilt the frame and wooden body from a 1914 Detroit Electric, and with that work done they've started dreaming of a modern drivetrain for it. One proposed candidate for the swap has been to install motor from a Nissan Leaf and a bank of lithium-ion batteries. Mercedes and VW battling Uber and Apple to spend billions on Nokia mapping division
Tue, May 12 2015Whether for autonomous driving or simply better navigation, digital mapping is closely linked with the future of motoring. The sale of a major player in that industry is spurring a showdown between automotive behemoths and tech giants, and it's a fascinating battle to watch unfold. Nokia is selling its Here mapping division, and while the company might not have the name recognition of Google, it controls about 70 percent of the auto market. The business is valued at $785 million, according to Reuters, but is likely to sell for significantly more. Case in point: Uber reportedly submitted a $3 billion bid. Apple has also been rumored to be among those interested in purchasing Here. A trio of German automotive heavyweights is mounting a challenge to Silicon Valley, though. According to Reuters speaking to two unnamed insiders, Daimler, BMW, and Audi are teaming up to submit a joint bid for an undisclosed sum. They're worried that if Here falls under the control of tech companies, then automakers might have limited availability to these vital maps in the future. Nokia bought Here for $8.1 billion in 2007, according to Reuters. The company operates a fleet of vehicles with cameras and LIDAR that drive around the world to create high-definition maps. It also generates even more information by using the GPS data from shipping and trucking companies.
Next Mercedes-Benz GLK to get AMG variant? Not likely...
Fri, 15 Mar 2013If you think Mercedes-Benz will slap an AMG badge on anything with wheels, think again. Word has it the German manufacturer will not offer buyers a performance version of the GLK, with Tobias Moers, director of AMG vehicle development, saying that he doesn't see a market for the car. That's not to say the picture won't change in the near future, however. According to CarAdvice.com, AMG is keeping a close eye on the arrival of the Porsche Macan.
"Maybe there will be a change in the market when the Porsche [Macan] comes up," Moers said, "but right now, no."
The real hitch in the giddy-up seems to be cost. Moers says developing the machine into something worthy of an AMG would represent "a huge investment." We can't exactly argue with that. Fortunately, AMG buyers have plenty of Mercedes-Benz models to choose from.
