1957 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL BARN FIND!
We are listing this for a relative. This car is still owned by the original owner that purchased the little car
directly from the factory in Germany when he was stationed there in the army. The title will be the original title
he received when he brought the car back to the States
The little Mercedes has been in the barn for a long time and has suffered from dings, scuffs, scratches etc.. the
floor boards are very solid with just one finger side rust hole under the drivers floor and one small hole under
the original spare tire. There is a couple of small rust spots in the body but other than that the body is very
solid. It has a little mouse damage , the whole electrical system seems to be all intact and working, headlights,
dome lights, speedometer, gauges and dash lights still work. The starter works and engages but the engine will not
turn over, the clutch works good and is very solid. The tires still had air in them and the spare tire was still
hard. The convertible top works as it should. Look at the pictures thoroughly and ask questions and we will relay
to the owner. 1957 Mercedes 190 SL
I was drafted into the Army in May of 1956. In November, I was shipped to Germany and while there I
purchased a 1957 190 SL Mercedes directly from the factory and picked it up in Stuttgart. I toured
several countries in Europe with it and when I was scheduled to return to the USA to be discharged, I
took it up to Bremerhaven to be loaded on a ship to be delivered to New Jersey. After my discharge at
Fort Dix in 1958, I picked it up at the dock and drove home to Ohio. My wife and I put about 20000+
miles on it after we were married and then we were having a family and farming pretty heavy. Since it is not
a family car, it did not get used much. I had chances to sell it but sentiment stopped that. It was
put into the barn on an asphalt floor and it basically has set there for many years.
I am now nearing 83 years old and we have decided to let it go to someone who we hope will restore it to
its original
beauty.
It has never been in an accident of any kind, not even any dents. All the dents and dings it now has come
from sitting in the barn and from careless workers, kids and grandchildren over the years.
I have had some great times driving this car and I hate to part with it. This car is what caught my wife's
eye at a church service in the spring of 1958 and I was the second thing she noticed. Our 56th wedding
anniversary was on September 13, 2015. It really has been a great car for me. I would hope
someone would value it as well.

Daimler boss says fuel cell vehicles will be disappointing for at least 10 years

Tue, Jan 21 2014

Daimler AG CEO Dieter Zetsche is pretty confident about the imminence of self-driving cars. Hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles? Not so much. He didn't even get into the possibility of self-driving fuel-cell vehicles, but we're okay taking future technologies one at a time. Zetsche, in an interview from the Detroit Auto Show last week, said the automotive industry is about a decade away from avoiding disappointing experiences with production fuel-cell vehicles, In Auto News says. Zetsche was quick to note that the Mercedes-Benz parent entered into a fuel-cell partnership with Ford and Nissan early last year in an effort to split costs and speed things along, with the expectation that the group would develop something together by 2017, but even that won't be able to smooth things out fully. Toyota and Hyundai have said they'd have their own production vehicles on the road sooner than that. Multi-corporation-partnerships notwithstanding, Zetsche bemoaned the high costs, lack of vehicle volume and minimal refueling infrastructure as the proverbial roadblocks to more rapid development and adoption of fuel-cell vehicles. As it is, the US has just 10 publicly accessible hydrogen refueling stations, eight of which are in Southern California, according to the US Department of Energy. As for autonomous automobiles, Zetsche was more upbeat. Daimler already has what it calls the "Distronic" cruise control system that includes an automatic braking feature and has successfully driven a car 60 miles with "with relatively modest adjustments to the existing onboard technology." Mercedes to market Tesla-powered 2014 B-Class EV in U.S.

Thu, 05 Jul 2012

Looks like another Tesla Motors investor will be looking to cash in on their connection. Autoweek reports Mercedes-Benz will offer their B-Class in the U.S. with Tesla propulsion.
The magazine says their source at the German automaker confirms plans for a B-Class electric-only vehicle. While Tesla already provides battery packs for the battery-powered Smart ForTwo, the B-Class EV will reportedly have Tesla batteries, motor and other components. U.S. residents should be able to procure one sometime in 2014.
The same Mercedes source says plans for a hybrid B-Class have been postponed for now. Adding a range-extending, gasoline-powered engine to an electric vehicle would put the car into a different class for which rebates and incentives aren't as favorable in the States.
