Jenson Button allegedly gassed during home raid
Fri, Aug 7 2015McLaren Formula 1 driver and former F1 World Champion Jenson Button might have been the victim of a bizarre, anesthetic gas attack when burglars robbed him, his wife, and friends while they were sleeping in a rented villa in Saint-Tropez, according to a BBC News report. Thankfully, none of them were harmed during the Aug. 3 theft in the popular French vacation spot. The thieves got away with quite a bit of loot, though. "Two men broke into the property whilst they all slept and stole a number of items of jewelry including, most upsettingly, Jessica's engagement ring," a spokesperson for the driver said, according to the BBC News. "The police have indicated that this has become a growing problem in the region with perpetrators going so far as to gas their proposed victims through the air conditioning units before breaking in." The value of all the looted items was reportedly 300,000 pounds ($463,000 at current rates). Afterward, the spokesperson described Button and his wife as "unsurprisingly shaken." Related Video:
McLaren P1 GTR hits the track with its spiritual ancestor [w/poll]
Wed, Feb 25 2015Unless you're one of the squillionaires who'll be taking part in its custom-tailored track program, chances are slim that you'll ever see the new McLaren P1 GTR ripping around a racing circuit. Chances are even slimmer that you'd see it running in tandem with the legendary, Le Mans-conquering McLaren F1 GTR from which it takes its inspiration. Fortunately, the British racing team turned exotic automaker has released footage of exactly that, with both track-tuned supercars decked out in the same yellow and green livery. The new GTR, in case you missed the news, is a new track version of the McLaren P1 hybrid hypercar. It's lighter than the road-going version and packs more power (along with a series of other upgrades) to make this one of the most extreme machines Woking has ever offered to private customers. Whether it's faster than the F1 GTR, however, is another question – and one which we'd pay good money to see answered, or better yet, answer ourselves. In the meantime we're looking forward to seeing McLaren take the wraps off its new track machine at the Geneva show.
Is Seat getting its own version of the VW Up?
Thu, 29 Sep 2011Could this be Seat's version of the Volkswagen Up!? Skoda recently showed off its take on the Up! runabout, the Citigo, and it's plausible that VW wants to make the biggest statement possible with the little car. The diminutive hatchback could also be employed to help reverse Seat's fortunes - remember, in May of 2010, the Spanish brand was put on notice about its financial performance. An innovative and inexpensive city car could help round out the planned portfolio expansion.
At the Frankfurt Motor Show, our sister UK site reported that Seat was working on a sporty version of the Up! that would be "good to drive." However, there wasn't any additional information at the source site, so we aren't sure how much of the image above is an actual photo and how much is rendering. We expect it would still come, as the rest, with either the 59- or 74-horsepower, 1.0-liter three-clinder engines.
