McLaren confirms Sport Series Spider for 2017, another bodystyle due [w/poll]

While famous in motorsports and for the F1, McLaren is still building a name for as a major producer of modern supercars. Every year, the company just keeps adding more variants to the lineup, and now we're getting the scoop on some of the coming developments. In a recent latest financial announcement, McLaren tips its hand that two, new bodystyles for the Sports Series models are on the way for 2016 and 2017. Currently comprised of the 570S (pictured above) and 540C coupes, the Sports Series models are meant to challenge rivals like the Mercedes-AMG GT and Audi R8. Adding a convertible to the range isn't really a surprise, but now McLaren is verifying that's the case. "I can tell you that the new bodystyle for 2017 will be a Spider," spokesperson Wayne Bruce confirms to Autoblog. However, McLaren is clear in its announcement: "a second body-style will be introduced in 2016 followed by another in 2017." So what could next year's model be? Rumors suggest that the company might be working on an odd combination of GT and shooting brake for the Sports Series. While it isn't confirmed, leaks claim that the variant has a larger luggage compartment that runs on top of and possibly behind the engine, and this is somehow accessible from the side. Maybe the shape looks better in reality, than the description implies. Of course, that's not the only option. It's not hard to imagine McLaren doing a hardcore version of the 570S, like the relationship between the 675LT and 650S. Although for all we know right now, the company could even have a hyper hatch or tiny pickup to take on Australia's high-performance utes in the works. It's certainly fun to speculate. McLaren P1 looks retrolicious in Gulf livery

We live in a bit of a conundrum over here in the Autoblog editorial office. On the one hand, we're big fans of progress – and things move fast in the automotive industry. On the other, we do like a bit of retro style from time to time – especially when it comes to classic racing liveries. Where those two intersect, though, can leave us weak in the knees. Like this McLaren P1, for example, decked out in retro Gulf livery. Commissioned from the McLaren Special Operations by Canadian venture capitalist and philanthropist Miles Nadal, this one-of-a-kind take on Woking's flagship hybrid hypercar looks prime to line up alongside a Martini-liveried Porsche 918 Spyder or trounce a JPS-inspired Lotus Evora. It may not have the Gulf Oil logos plastered all over it – that would strike us as a little over the top – but it has been done up in the traditional baby blue with orange accents, from the tapered orange stripe running over the top to the orange brake calipers. The theme continues subtly inside where McLaren's own signature orange accents are joined by more baby blue to complete the theme. Though McLaren might not be as closely associated with Gulf as say, Aston Martin or Porsche, the two have crossed paths on a handful of notable instances over the course of their respective histories in racing. One of the most iconic of the long-tail McLaren F1 GTRs wore Gulf livery alongside Davidoff logos, as did another short-tail example, as well as an M8D, M16B-2 and M19A straight through to the modern MP4-12C GT3. 2012 Seat Exeo is Audi with the old, in with the new-ish

We know what you're thinking: This car looks an awful lot like an Audi A4. But it isn't. And it is.
Regular readers may be aware that Audi's Spanish sister-company Seat inherited the previous-generation A4 some time after it was replaced. They put some new badges on it and presto! A new flagship model for Seat.
Called the Exeo, it has now undergone a minor facelift that did nothing if not make it look even more like an Audi, if that were possible, and we got up close and personal with the new model here in Frankfurt. Check it out in our high-res gallery of live images from the show floor.
