McLaren 570S GT and Spider on the way

McLaren confirmed to Autoblog on July 26 that it would launch a convertible version of the 570S in 2016. With it known that another bodystyle for the range is coming in 2017, one that McLaren wouldn't divulge, the question is: What we can expect in two years? Autocar reports that it will be a GT. We go back to the realm of rumor when it comes to how the transformation will be carried out. Autocar says it will be "an all-new bodystyle" that will offer more storage with "minor styling changes." If that's the case, it would quash the past year of rumblings that seemed to sketch out a shooting brake. A GT bodystyle has been scuttlebutt ever since last year, when the 570S was still called the P13, speculation at that time being that it would have "an unconventional trunk" behind the passenger compartment. Car and Driver gossip that came from a McLaren source, said the final car "looks more like an E-type than the Jaguar F-type does," with new cooling measures and a concave rear window. Another report earlier this year said that the luggage area can be accessed from the side. None of those rumors are compatible with "minor styling changes," so we'll find out which ones are true. Back to Autocar, the mag says the GT has "long-distance touring in mind," so the interior gets gussied up, too. Power will come from the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 that's done sterling work in the rest of the range, the 562 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque not expected to budge. If differentials are comparable to the 650S range, the 570S Spider will weigh about 90 pounds more and cost about $15,000 more in the US than the coupe. Performance should be comparable with its hardtop brother. Now the question is: what's the rumored fourth bodystyle for the 570S? McLaren won't offer 540C in United States

McLaren launched its new entry-level Sports Series in New York with the 570S, and followed up in Shanghai with the more affordable 540C. However we can now confirm that the 540C won't be offered in the United States. In correspondence with Autoblog (and following rampant speculation circulating the Internet), McLaren spokesman Wayne Bruce confirmed: "Following a series of previews in which interest from American customers has been exclusively in the 570S, we will now concentrate on only this model for the launch of Sports Series in the US to satisfy demand." That means the 570S will remain (for the time being at least) the most affordable model – if a term has ever been more relative – McLaren will offer in the US, priced at $184,900. We can also expect additional versions of the Sports Series to follow, including a roadster and a third bodystyle as well. The cheaper 540C won't be kept out of North America altogether, though: it will be offered in Canada. North of the Border, the 540C is priced at $196,500 Canadian (equivalent to about $158k at current exchange rates), with the 570S going for $219,750 Canadian (~$177k). Related Video:

McLaren 650S to start at about $318,000 in Europe

Immediately following the reveal of a mid-engined piece of exotica like the McLaren 650S, one of the many, many questions that will be asked relates to the six-figure sum the 641-horsepower car will demand. Now, we have a rough answer - 232,500 euros, according to an alleged pricing guide leaked on on 650Sforum.com. That works out to $318,000, but in reality, the base US of the 650S is likely to be lower, what with things like Europe's Value Added Tax messing with the figures. Exterior carbon fiber items range from a 10,020-euro ($13,739 as of this writing) package that features CF versions of the rear bumper, door blades and front splitter to a 2,690-euro ($3,688) side intake. Like many exotics, there's a wide range of options to customize the cabin, with prices ranging from free (owners have their choice of a full leather cabin, a leather sport cabin, or an Alcantara-and-leather cabin at no cost) to 6,080 euros ($8,336) for carbon-fiber racing seats. Other intriguing items include a 5,670-euro ($7,774) sports exhaust and the option to go with steel brakes instead of the standard carbon-ceramic stoppers at no charge (but why?).
