McLaren bringing unique P1 MSO to Pebble Beach
Thu, Aug 7 2014With only 375 examples to be made (170 of which have already been completed), you can bet that few of the McLaren P1s to leave the factory in Woking will be the same. But for those looking to further distinguish their supercar, McLaren Special Operations is glad to meet the customer's individual requests, and will be bringing two examples of its latest work to the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance this year, the same place where MSO was launched three years ago. The most noteworthy is a P1 commissioned by a North American customer who had MSO outfit his hybrid hypercar to unique specifications. It's done up in Stirling Grey metallic with a satin nickel Stealth Pack, gloss carbon fiber and McLaren's trademark shade of orange detailing everything from the brake calipers to the rear wing brackets. The buyer also had MSO install 24-carat gold heat shielding around the engine bay and inconel exhaust, just like the original McLaren F1, a custom aluminum grille and an interior decked out in carbon fiber, Alcantara, a custom steering wheel and more orange and satin nickel detailing. Alongside this unique P1, MSO will also be showcasing a unique 650S Spider commissioned by the Newport Beach dealership in Cerulean Blue metallic flake and satin carbon trim. See the press release below for all the details on both these bespoke takes on already-exclusive supercars. Of course the bigger news, however, is the P1 GTR track car that will be unveiled at Pebble this year as well. McLAREN SPECIAL OPERATIONS RETURNS TO PEBBLE BEACH CONCOURS D'ELEGANCE TO SHOWCASE THE LATEST MODELS Three years after launching at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, McLaren Special Operations (MSO) will return to the fairway of the 18th hole at the famous Pebble Beach automotive weekend with unique examples of the McLaren P1™ and the recently launched MSO 650S Spider. The bespoke McLaren Special Operations division was launched in 2011, and offers a full personalisation service for McLaren owners. The dedicated division grew out of McLaren's Customer Care programme, which goes back more than 20 years to the days of the McLaren F1 roadcar, and continues to look after servicing and maintaining cherished F1s for owners, as well as undertaking personalisation work for all McLaren models. Commissioned by a North American customer, the McLaren P1™ to be shown features a host of bespoke options which subtly mark this car out, and is on display publicly for the first time.
McLaren launches new MSO Defined customization program
Sun, Dec 7 2014Unless you keep company with other supercar types, your chances of seeing a McLaren on the road are pretty slim – unless you're the one driving it. But for those looking to set their British supercar apart from others, the McLaren Special Operations division offers a range of personalization options. MSO has demonstrated its capabilities with a series of customized demonstrators based on the 12C, 650S and even the P1. But to give its upper-crust clients a more focused idea of the possibilities in store, Woking has now compartmentalized MSO's activities into five areas. The first is the new MSO Defined catalog, which offers buyers of the 650S and the new Asian-market 625C a full assortment of enhancements, including upgraded aero bits, carbon-fiber components and interior trim packages to make each supercar more unique. There's even an F1-inspired instrument cluster with shift lights available. Those interested in ordering entirely unique paint, leather and trim options (as 20 percent of 650S buyers and 95 percent of P1 customers have opted to date) will find what they need in the MSO Bespoke program, while limited-run models will be handled by MSO Limited. MSO Heritage will handle anything related to past models like the McLaren F1 and Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, while the McLaren P1 GTR will be handled by MSO Programmes. So no matter what you want out of your McLaren, Woking will be ready to handle it. McLAREN SPECIAL OPERATIONS INTRODUCES DEFINED RANGE OF OPTIONS - Five tiers identify the levels of bespoke work available to from MSO as the company embraces an unprecedented period of growth - Differing levels of personalisation offer complete tailoring of any McLaren model through MSO Bespoke, MSO Heritage, MSO Limited and MSO Programmes - New Defined range to include a line of series options available on all new McLaren models McLaren Special Operations (MSO) has announced a range of available series options for the McLaren 650S, and Asia-only 625C, under the newly established 'MSO Defined' division. This forms the first of five tiers of personalisation and support offered by MSO, catering for the needs of all McLaren customers, and joins MSO Bespoke, specialising in one-off models; MSO Limited, producing limited-edition series production cars; MSO Heritage, focused on the maintenance and storage of historic cars; and MSO Programmes which includes the McLaren P1™ GTR.
ATM customers push the Jenson Button to meet their Secret Santander
Thu, Dec 25 2014We all know the drill: you need cash, you go to an ATM, you push some buttons and out come the bills, deducted from your checking account. But some customers at European bank Santander got a bit of a surprise when they were asked to use a new type of automatic teller and push the Jenson Button. Putting the Santa in Santander, the 2009 Formula One World Champion hid inside an ATM in England and dispersed gifts from the bank to a fortunate few of its customers. It's a good gag, one that puts the bank in good light and spreads a bit of holiday cheer. In case you're wondering what Santander has to do with Button and F1, note that the Spanish-owned banking group has, since 2008, sponsored the McLaren team for which Button drives. Not unlike Marlboro, it started sponsoring the Ferrari team in 2010 when Fernando Alonso signed with the Italian team, but though Santander initially planned on severing ties with the British team when it switched to the Scuderia, it's stuck with McLaren over the years. And with Alonso now returning to Woking, we wouldn't be surprised to see the bank step up to an even more prominent role with the team.
