18 McLaren F1s gather for owners club meet in Tuscany

It's not every day that you see a McLaren F1 on the road. Seeing two in the same place is the approximate automotive equivalent to seeing a leprechaun riding a unicorn. But eighteen? We were recently at the McLaren factory in Woking, and while there were a few notable examples on display or hidden in this corner or that, we still didn't see that many of them there. That's what makes this video so remarkable. Shot in Tuscany during a meeting of the McLaren F1 Owners Club, this video shows a dozen "standard" F1s, joined by an additional six F1 GTRs. Together that makes for one in every six McLaren F1s ever made. And as if that weren't enough, a couple of new P1s joined in, with a few examples of the 12C and 650S tagging along in a – get this – support capacity. McLaren reveals 675LT concept with JVCKenwood tech at CES

McLaren and Japanese electronics giant JVCKenwood are drawing on a quarter-century of collaboration with this technological concept at CES this year. It's based on the limited-edition 675LT, but packs more advanced tech. For starters, it has a head-up display that projects vital information right into the driver's line of sight – including the presence of other vehicles in its vicinity through the on-board Advanced Driver Assistance System. To go with it, McLaren replaced the steering wheel with that of the P1 GTR, and fitted controls for the HUD where the IPAS boost and DRS adaptive rear wing buttons would be. While they were at it, McLaren and JVCKenwood also pulled out all the mirrors and replaced them with digital cameras. There's one on each door to streamline the side mirrors, and another digital rear view mirror inside feeding from a third camera below the Airbrake rear wing. If only such systems were certified for use on the road. The one-off concept also features a unique treatment inside and out. It's done up in Onyx Black with silver racing stripes outside. And the interior features a mix of leather and technical fabrics. With the air conditioning system deleted, vital controls moved to the steering wheel, and gauges integrated into the HUD, McLaren also removed the center console and instrument binnacle altogether, giving the cockpit a more airy feel. The finished product looks pretty cool, but even without all the cool tech, the 675LT is all sold out in both coupe and Spyder forms. McLaren 675LT aims at the track with more power, less weight

Rumor had it as the McLaren 650S GTR, but it's actually the 675LT – "LT" being for Long Tail – that will come to the Geneva Motor Show. This will be the track-honed, road-legal version coupe in the Super Series, getting 666 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque from its 3.8-liter V8. Combined with a weight loss of 220 pounds for a 2,711-pound dry weight, the hard-charger gets from 0 to 62 miles per hour in 2.9 seconds, and reaches a top speed of 205 mph. Changes outside include a large carbon fiber front splitter at the base of a new front bumper, end plates ahead of the front wheels, an extra cooling intake nested in a larger door blade, and twin titanium exhaust pipes in back below a longtail airbrake that's larger yet 50 percent larger than the one on the 650S. Inside will come carbon fiber buckets inspired by those in the P1, and a "stripped out" interior. In addition to McLaren Orange, five brand new exterior hues will be available: Silica White, Delta Red, Napier Green and Chicane Grey. Acceleration continues at a relentless pace with the 124 mph (200 km/h) barrier broken in 7.9 seconds, on to a top speed of 205 mph (330 km/h).
