1993 Mazda RX7 3rd Gen FD CYM Base 5spd

History:
This is the 60th 3rd gen produced by Mazda (based on the VIN). The color is Competition Yellow Mica. Mazda sold only 350 cars in this color in the US. This color was never offered in the US in the Base model.
This is an unusual color/model combination.
I am the second owner of this car. The first owner purchased the car in Canada. He sold the car after replacing the engine when he blew a radiator hose and drove it until it overheated. I imported the car to the US in January of 1998 for use as my daily driver with 58,000 miles on the odometer. I had a rebuilt engine installed in March of 2003 with 112,963 miles on the chassis. The car became a fair weather garage queen after the rebuild and has seen only 12,000 miles since then (currently at 125,000).

Specs:
This car was originally sold in Canada. The only difference between the US and the Canadian models is the odometer displays kilometers and the car has day time running lights. Note the picture of the odometer shows 201,030 km (this is 124,941 miles).
This is a 1993 5 speed Base model 3rd generation RX7. Most of the maintenance has been performed by Mike Ploof at Berge Mazda (a Mazda 3rd gen certified and well respected mechanic).
The car is stock with the following exceptions:
 - GAB Super R adjustable shocks at all 4 corners (great shocks).
 - Eibach front sway bar.
 - Petit Racing boost gauge with mount integrated in steering housing (see picture).
 - Straight pipe replaces muffler (about a 50 lbs weight loss & great idle sound. The precats muffle most noise. The factory muffler is still available).
 - Upgraded radio: Kenwood radio/CD, Remote Kenwood 10 disc changer, Kenwood EQ, Rockford Fosgate Punch 600 Amp, Sub box.
 - Tinted windows.
The following extras were completed when engine was rebuilt 12K miles ago:
 - Stock turbos were rebuilt and balanced.
 - New wiring harness.
 - New precat.
 - Miata cooling fan temp switch installed (comes on at lower temp).
 - Replaced engine mounts.
 - AWS line capped at both ends - avoids 3K RPM @ startup.
Known faults:
 - Small wear spot in driver side seat (see picture).
 - Plastic seat belt holder on driver side seat cracked (see picture).
 - Leather worn on passenger side of stick shift knob (see picture).
 - Passenger window switch broken on driver side (see picture) (switch on passenger door works).
 - Cubby door on driver door is cracked (see picture).
 - Power antenna does not extend (common problem that I didn't fix when I realized the radio works fine without ant ext).
 - Paint chips on lower part of front bumper (see picture).
 - Small door ding in driver door (see picture) (no paint damage).
 - Small ding on top of hood (see picture) (very hard to see - even in person).
 - Paint chip in rear quarter panel (see picture).
 - Damaged driver side fog light.
 - Cassette for 10 disc changer is damaged.
 - Small plastic kick plate near drivers right knee is missing (see picture).

Vehicle is listed for local sale. Auction will be cancelled if sold locally.

Delivery may be available to the Southern California area.

MotorWeek proves '90s were awesome with Supra, Stealth, RX-7, Corvette, 968, 300ZX comparo

Thu, 24 Jul 2014

Oh, the heady days of 1993, back when the Clinton Presidency was just getting underway, and it seemed like every hot new rock band was coming out of Seattle. Sports cars in the US had finally shaken off the shackles that slowed them during the '70s and '80s, and you could buy any number of legitimately quick vehicles again. MotorWeek recently went digging into its archives to find this six-model test from 1993 showing off some of the best semi-affordable performance coupes that money could buy at the time, and it's priceless.
Featuring the 1994 model year Toyota Supra in twin-turbo guise and MY 1993 versions of the Porsche 968, Nissan 300ZX TT, Mazda RX-7, Dodge Stealth R/T Turbo and Chevrolet Corvette LT-1, MotorWeek definitely covered all of the bases. One thing that might surprise younger readers is these cars' performance. The video only provides 0-60 acceleration times, but several of these vehicles would still be considered pretty potent today - over 20 years since going on sale. The Supra is especially impressive, hitting 60 miles per hour in just 5 seconds. Even today, that's nothing to sneeze at.
Given their performance potential and still-attractive looks, it's amazing that some of these coupes are old enough to drink now. The progress of interior design and safety equipment in the intervening years is pretty shocking, though. In most of these models, having two airbags is touted as a big deal. Scroll down to watch a Throwback Thursday blast from the past about some of the '90s best sports cars.

Mazda Miata could get retractable hardtop in New York

Fri, Mar 11 2016

The upcoming New York Auto Show just got a little more exciting because Mazda could debut the latest MX-5 Miata with a power retractable hardtop there. The best evidence comes from Autocar, which has an image of Mazda's invitation. The message promises a "world premiere" in the Big Apple and further teases, "Help us blow the lid off the New York Auto Show." The last Miata PRHT made up 52 percent of the roadster's sales mix in the US, so creating another one is an easy decision for the company. According to Autocar, expect the new roof mechanism to be lighter and more compact than the previous design. It would still add some weight compared to the cloth top, but customers would get the added insulation and security from the hardtop. With the NC PRHT as a guide, don't expect many changes for the new other than the roof. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 155 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque with either the six-speed manual or automatic should still make for an exciting drive. The hardtop just makes life a little more comfortable if you have to deal with rain or snow for part of the year. We can't wait to see it. Related Video:
