History:

I purchased it in the fall of 2000 from a seller in Tennessee.  Within a year, the engine blew (tip seal) at the track, around 92k miles.  Over the following winter the engine was rebuilt… The intake was ported, lightweight flywheel installed, new stock turbos, racing beat exhaust, custom air intake, Power FC fuel computer and commander installed.  The Power FC was tuned by Steve Kan (www.kantuning.com).  My goal for the rebuild was to make it rock solid, reliable, and fast.  From 2001-2005 I put approximately 25k miles on the vehicle and the new engine taking it to few different tracks and on road trips.   There is also a bullet cam installed on the front lip and wired up through the glove box with RCA inputs.  Its been in storage since 2005 basically because I had kids and don’t really have time for it.  I start it 2x a year and drive it for couple hours, and it always cranks right up and does not smoke.  I have always changed the oil every 2000 miles and the engine and turbos are both very strong.  I am including a lot of extras which I collected over the years….extra set of stock turbos and other  miscellaneous parts and useful tools and other goodies.

Exterior:

The exterior is in good shape.  No dents, dings, etc.  Paint is chipped in a couple places and has been touched up with touch up paint.  I have a custom cut headlight cover intake to feed cold air into the engine intake, but I still have the original headlight cover in case you want to switch back.  The taillights have been modified for ’99 spec

Interior:

The interior is in fair shape.  The seats are actually leather seats from a touring  series (not the original Cloth R1 seats).  The power window switch on the passenger side doesn’t work, but it can be rolled down from the driver side switch which has both.

Under the Hood:

I’ve focused all my energy, time, and resources on the under-hood aspect of the car so it would be as fast and reliable as possible.  It is extremely reliable and engine is rebuilt very strong (when Steve Kan was tuning it he remarked at how well it pulled at high speeds).  I can’t possibly sell the car at a price to get back the investment I’ve put into these performance parts, so my loss is your gain.  The parts listed below are all installed on the car.  In total over $5000 worth of upgrades.  Please note, the air conditioning and power steering has been removed.  It can be reinstalled, but I preferred the steering feel (more responsive, and the car is already so light you don't even notice the missing p/s except for slightly heavier efforts at parking lot speeds) and the stock A/C system was terrible anyway.  Removing both of these lightened the car and gave the engine more power and made it more reliable.

Evo pits Toyota GT86 vs. Mazda MX-5 Miata

Tue, Sep 8 2015

The latest Deadly Rivals episode from Evo gets the Mazda MX-5 Miata and Toyota GT86 (our Scion FR-S) on track for a shakedown and a whole lot of drifting with Dan Prosser behind the wheel. The UK-spec coupes have slightly different power ratings than ours, but it's all close enough to be comparable. Their Miata has 158 horsepower (ours has 155), 148 pound-feet of torque, takes 7.3 seconds to run from naught to 60 62, and costs 22,695 pounds. The GT86, on the other hand, lists a 7.6-second dash to 60 62, and a base price of 25,000 pounds. The GT86 also weighs 400 pounds more than the Mazda. That's true in the States, too – curb weight for our MX-5 is 2,332 pounds, whereas the Scion FR-S comes in at 2,758 pounds. Both cars lauded for excellent shifting, but one of them has a better front end, a sweeter engine note, more controllable cornering behavior, and is faster by a tenth of a second around the test track. And Prosser doesn't mention it, but one has a lot more body roll. But it takes more than all that to make a winner, so check out the video above to see which is which. 2016 Mazda CX-9 starts at $32,420 with standard turbo engine

Thu, Mar 17 2016

The 2016 Mazda CX-9 will start at $32,420 (including $900 for destination) when it arrives at dealers later this spring. The base price is just slightly higher than competitors in the three-row CUV segment like the 2016 Ford Explorer for $31,995 and 2016 Honda Pilot for $31,045. The new model is also more expensive than the 2015 CX-9, which had a $30,865 starting price. All versions of the 2016 CX-9 use Mazda's new 2.5-liter turbocharged engine with 250 horsepower (on 93-octane fuel) and 310 pound-feet of torque, which routes through a six-speed automatic. The combo returns an EPA-estimated 22 miles per gallon city, 28 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined in front-wheel-drive form. All-wheel drive adds $1,800 to the price of most trims. We found the powertrain to be fantastic during when driving the CX-9 prototype. Even the base CX-9 Sport trim has amenities like LED headlights and taillights, a backup camera, trailer stability assist, and a seven-inch infotainment system. An optional Sport Package for $950 adds a power driver's seat, heated front seats, and heated side mirrors. Customers can really load the CX-9 with tech, though. The Touring model for $36,870 has Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, keyless entry, a power hatch, and an eight-inch infotainment system. The optional Touring Premium Package for $1,745 also adds automatic headlights, LED fog lights, navigation, and Smart City Brake Support. If that's not enough, the Grand Touring for $41,070 features a head-up display, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and radar cruise control. The top spec CX-9 Signature for $44,915 includes all of these features and comes standard with all-wheel drive. It also has Nappa leather upholstery, rosewood trim, LED lighting around the gearshift, and LED accents on the grille. Aussie Mazda MX-5 Miata specs leak suggests power loss

Fri, 12 Sep 2014

Mazda's 2016 MX-5 Miata reveal didn't include much in the way of specifications, but the car's debut seems to have blown the lid off of the rumormill, with the latest word out of Australia including fresh claims of curb weight and engine output.
Before delving into the findings from Motoring.com, we're going to take a moment to find a few grains of salt. It's not that we don't trust the Oz publication, it's just that we wouldn't be surprised to learn their car's specifications will vary from that of our eventual North American car.
Of course, we don't expect the footprint of the new ND model to itself to differ much - it will still be the most compact Miata ever - overall length is expected to check in at just over 154 inches - that's about 1.4 inches shorter than the original NA Miata and over 4 inches shorter than today's NC generation, yet it'll ride atop a longer wheelbase and be slightly wider while sitting lower to the ground.
