Hello fellow motorhead car fanatic speed freaks! What we have here for sale is the rarest and most collectible excellent condition Mona Lisa of all Mazda RX-7’s. It is the 5 speed manual transmission 1.3L rotary twin-sequential turbo-charged FD3S 1993 Mazda RX-7 R1 CYM (Competition Yellow Mica paint). There were only 350 of these ever imported into the United States!!! This car is immaculate inside and out, and the engine was professionally rebuilt by Pineapple Racing at 100,00 miles with new stock turbos and a new Centerforce Dual Friction clutch. A new engine gasket set, engine wiring harness, spark plugs, leading and trailing coils, vacuum hoses, water hoses, and new water pump were all part of the rebuild as well. It now has a little over 108,000 miles so there is nothing to worry about for a long time! The car was also professionally repainted at about 104,000 miles and looks like new!!! In addition, it has over $20,000 in upgrades which were professionally installed on the car: A'PEXi Power FC and FC commander engine control system Greddy intercooler and piping Greddy Type S blow-off valve Greddy turbo timer Efini intake Y-pipe set RE Amemiya air filter Bonez 3" stainless steel downpipe Bonez Turboflo 3" stainless steel performance converter system Greddy Power Extreme 3" stainless steel cat-back exhaust Ignition Solutions plasma ignition booster system Rotary Performance underdrive pulley and belt set Dual real carbon fiber A-pillar gauge pod Autometer 20 psi turbo boost gauge Autometer air/fuel gauge Tein Type Flex coilovers with ride adustable shock absorbers Bonez street comp brake upgrade with slotted rotors ADR M-Sport Hyperblack staggered wheels (19 x 8.5" front / 19 x 9.5" rear) Hankook Ventus K104 sport tires (245/35ZR19 front / 275/30ZR19 rear) C-West real carbon fiber sleek headlight set APR Performance GTC300 adjustable rear spoiler Real JDM Kouki round rear tail lights imported from a donor car in Japan Pioneer Premier CD stereo head unit Real carbon fiber dash, center console, and door trim kit RX-8 shift knob 20% tinted windows Now, the car is very close to perfect, but there are a few things I would like to point out. First, the front bumper needs to be repainted as there are a couple spots where there is cracking in the paint. It is very unnoticeable, but you should know it is there. If you are considering putting a body kit on the car eventually, the front bumper will be replaced and painted anyway. Also, there are a few door dings on the sides which are hardly noticeable. These can easily be fixed by a mobile dent removal service company. Also, the window switch on the driver's side for the passenger's window does not work to put the window down, and the air conditioning needs recharging. This car is absolutely amazing and needs very little to be considered mint condition. It has always been garage kept, never been subjected to winter, and has a completely clean Carfax, meaning no accidents, flood damage, no blemishes of any kind on its record! A word on performance: Driving this car is a real kick in the pants! It is already wicked fast, sounds amazing, and has huge potential for tuning the existing engine configuration or upgrading it further to be more of a beast than it is now! Now, a question I know will be asked if I do not answer it now: Joel, why are you selling this car? Well, if you’re a car fanatic like myself who loves projects, you will probably agree that variety is the spice of life. I have already owned one incredible 1993 Mazda RX-7 R1 CYM; it's time to conquer a new platform, namely the E46 BMW M3 that is now sitting in my garage!! So, its up to you— if you are a collector and want to make an investment that will pay off in the future, this car is a sure thing to sell at the Barrett-Jackson auction where you will probably double your money. Or, if you are a tuner and want to repaint the Mona Lisa to your liking, you have the perfect foundation where you can turn this vehicle into whatever you want, perhaps a 600 whp monster or the ultimate RX-7 show car! One more thing, please do not waste my time with low-ball offers. I have the title in hand and absolutely am in no rush to sell this car and want the opening bid at the very minimum. If you have questions, please call me at 440.725.7494 or email me at dude@hearusfearus.com. Thank you! |

WAVE 2015: Metron 7 sets new record of 513 miles on one charge
Tue, Jun 16 2015Sometimes you just gotta push harder, faster, longer. Last fall, the Metron Institute team from Slovenia took their converted all-electric Mazda5 minivan on an impressive 457-mile journey from Bled (in Sloveniva) to Dubrovnik (in Croatia) without stopping to recharge at an average speed of 40 miles an hour. Today, as part of the WAVE Trophy 2015, the Metron 7 EV just finished up a drive of 826.1 kilometers (513.3 miles) on a single charge. The drive started in Berlin and ended in Karlsruhe, Germany. As you might suspect, a drive of this length on normal roads required a big battery pack. The total pack capacity was 108 kWh, thanks to the combination of the built-in 86-kWh pack that uses lithium polymer cells from Kokam and a 130-pound, 22-kWh external pack that Metron has developed that can charge the built-in pack while driving. The average speed of the 500-mile journey was 45 miles per hour (72 kilometers per hour) through rural countryside, towns, and some time on the highway. The drivers –Andrej and Jasna Pecjak – did not use air conditioning, but the fans were running. The weather was temperate enough that AC wasn't needed anyway these last two days. The Metron 7 was a part of the last two WAVE events and has been updated since the last record was set in October 2014. On the new record journey, the minivan was loaded up with gear, but the Metron engineers made improvements to the car in the last eight months: the side mirrors are smaller and they fitted a better aerodynamic cover underneath the vehicle, for example. Andrej said that the cost for the batteries was around $50,000, since some of the cells he got were used. Today's record is unofficial, but AutoblogGreen witnessed both the sealing of the charge port in Berlin and was in the car for the last 125 kilometers today. Mazda6 Skyactiv-D racecar gets first win at Road Atlanta
Tue, 23 Apr 2013Mazda has a long motorsports history, and one that is peppered with fascinating cars. The latest chapter in Mazda's racing story has just been written, as Joel Miller and Andrew Carbonell have driven the Visit Florida Racing Mazda6 Skyactiv-D to the car's first ever victory at the Rolex Grand-Am GX race at Road Atlanta. The win marks the first ever for Mazda's diesel-burning, production-car based Skyactiv-D racer, and the first win for a diesel-powered car in a Grand-Am event.
In fact, it was a particularly good day for the Mazda Motorsports team, as a Mazda6 also picked up the third finishing spot at Road Atlanta. Director of Mazda Motorsports, John M. Doonan, said of the racecar, "We've always said that the best street cars make the best racecars, and, with more than half of the components in the race engine being shared with the street engine, this program is a solid proof-point."
SpeedSource Engineering, which helped to build the Mazda6 racer, was greatly heartened by the car's performance in just it's fourth-ever race. Owner Sylvain Tremblay called the victory, "a tribute to the thousands of hours of hard work over many months," continuing, "The normal plan with a new car is to spend the first year in development, the second year seeking race wins, and challenging for a championship in year three. We are already at our year-two status after four races. We can't wait to get to the Belle Isle course in Detroit for round five."
Junkyard Gem: 1990 Mazda 929 S
Wed, Aug 24 2016In the late 1980s, Toyota, Nissan, and Honda were cleaning up in the American market with the Cressida, Maxima, and Legend, respectively. Mazda wanted some of those dollars, so the HC-series Mazda Luce was modified for the US market and sold here as the 929. It had rear-wheel drive, a powerful V6 engine, and lots of luxury features, but not many were sold. Here's a rare '90 that I spotted in a San Francisco Bay Area self-service yard. In 1990, the sporty 929S version got 190 horsepower from its DOHC 3.0-liter V6. Unfortunately for Mazda, American buyers associated the marque with sensible econoboxes and screaming rotary engines, not luxury machinery, at the time. For the 1990 model year, American-market cars were required to have either a driver's-side airbag or automatic seat belts. The 929 had the automatic belts, the less said about the better. The Luce-based 929 became the Sentia-based 929 for the 1992 model year. Meanwhile, the new luxury brands from Honda, Nissan, and Toyota were kicking the crap out of 929 sales; Mazda had planned to launch the Amati brand in the United States, but didn't have the resources to follow through. The last 929s were sold in the United States for the 1995 model year. Related Video: Featured Gallery Junked 1990 Mazda 929 S View 16 Photos Auto News Mazda
