This RX-7 has been my toy for about 10 years, but I don't have the time anymore. It was originally prepared for track racing with the following suspension upgrades: Tokico springs, KYB shocks, energy suspension bushings, and front sway bar, front strut tower brace. It has 16" Rota Formal rims with Falcon Ziex tires with ~75% tred remaining. The 13B engine was originally from a GSL-SE, and has the '89 style upper intake. I'm running two 800cc injectors controlled by a megasquirt ECU - secondaries are not being used at this time - still has decent power. Has a Mindtrain header-back exhaust and an RS-R muffler. Although the car is currently registered and inspected, I consider it a race/project car for the following reasons: 1. It has no emmision controls (although here in Texas it is old enough that it no longer needs emmisions testing). 2. It is roughly tuned: it runs rather rich - especially while warming up. 3. The hood is a custom piece - with the scoop from a Turbo-II car. It was cut out & fiberglassed together. Looks good from the top, not too pretty from under the hood as you can see from the picture.
Overall the car looks great cosmetically, but it's not perfect - there are some small dings here & there. It was re-painted the original "Tender Blue Metallic" color some time ago. Also there is a rust spot on the undercarriage as seen in the picture. There is also a crack on the hood scoop trim as you can see in the picture. The seats are from a late model RX8 & in decent shape. Mounting locations were modified to use the original RX8 hardware. There is no radio - there is a 7" PC screen which I intended to hook up to the megasquirt for real-time viewing of engine parameters but never finished that. You can tune & view it through a laptop and serial cable which I will include in the sale. Some things to keep in mind: This is a GS model which is basically the base model - no power steering(helps build upper body strength), no power windows, no sunroof, but that makes it a very light platform for racing. THE OIL METERING HAS BEEN REMOVED - so you must pre-mix. This is the best way to guarantee the proper lubrication, but you have to remember every time at the pump. I am using a synthetic rotary pre-mix oil. It is quite loud! With the header-back exhaust and RS-R muffler, you will wake the neighbors every time you start it up. The cornering is incredible, but it rides very rough. The AC does not work and the fan/temp controls have been moved to mount oil temp, water temp, and a wideband Air/fuel ratio gauge. The oil & water temp gauges are currently NOT hooked up. If any of these things concern you, then PLEASE DON'T bid. I will include the car cover in the picture with the sale of the car. If you have any questions, please contact me BEFORE you bid. Thanks!

I wanted to add some additional notes: This car also has the limited slip diff from a GSL-SE. Some additional bads: You can see from the picture of the door panel that the vinyl is starting to ripple in some places. When I moved it I noticed some drips of oil from the oil pan - I do have a new oil pan gasket which I will include..

Mazda Miata RF gets price bump for 2019
Mon, Jul 30 2018Over the past couple of months, Mazda has been releasing information about updates for the 2019 model year of the MX-5 Miata. We got details about the car's 2.0-liter I4 making 181 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque. The car also gets a telescoping steering wheel, new door stops, updated cupholders and seat levers, standard rear-view camera and 17-inch wheels. Later, we learned the new Miata would also be a smidge more efficient. Now, Mazda has announced pricing for the 2019 Miata RF. Going on sale in August, the 2019 Miata MX-5 RF starts at $33,240 (including $895 in destination fees) for the Club trim level with a six-speed manual transmission. That's a price increase of $435. That doesn't seem so bad when you consider the extra 26 horsepower and higher redline. The Club 6MT can also be optioned with Brembo brakes and BBS wheels for an extra $3,770, or the Brembo/BBS/Recaro package for $4,670. The MX-5 Club with six-speed automatic comes with paddle shifters and sport mode for $33,840, but isn't available with the Brembo/BBS packages. The i-ActiveSense package, which includes features like Smart City Brake Support and lane-departure warning is a $450 option for the Club 6AT. MSRP for the Grand Touring trim starts at $34,230 with a six-speed manual transmission, which is $585 more than the outgoing model. The new GT-S package for the Grand Touring 6MT adds $750, and comes with a front shock tower brace, limited-slip rear differential, Bilstein dampers and a hand-painted black roof. The Grand Touring with six-speed automatic goes for $35,305. Auburn Nappa leather adds another $300. In terms of exterior colors, there are three premium options to choose from, each with its own added price. The gorgeous Soul Red Crystal tacks on another $595 to the price of the Miata RF. Machine Gray Metallic adds $300, while Snowflake White Pearl Mica costs $200. Pricing for the soft-top version of the 2019 Miata hasn't been announced yet. Related Video:
Masamichi Kogai new Mazda president and CEO
Fri, 10 May 2013There's some executive rearranging going on in the top suite at Mazda Motor Corporation in Japan, with current CEO Takashi Yamanouchi telling reporters there "I'd like to hand over the work to younger people" now that the company has returned to profitability. Yamanouchi became CEO on November 19, 2008 of an independent Mazda that had to fight for its future in the immediate aftermath of the global financial crisis. What followed was four years of losses before finally getting back to black last year.
Masamichi Kogai (pictured) will be appointed the new president and CEO on June 25, pending approval at the company's annual general shareholders' meeting. Kogai assisted Seita Kanai with the production-efficiency initiative that Mazda called Mono Tsukuri Innovation, which worked to give export-dependent Mazda the best chance at profitability in spite of a rising yen. Kogai, lately in charge of production and purchasing, has been with the company since 1977 and worked in areas from R&D to logistics.
Kanai, who headed the Mono Tsukuri effort and was among the leadership on Skyactiv, will be promoted from executive vice president to vice chairman. Akira Marumoto will become executive VP of Mazda and assistant to new president Kogai. Yamanouchi will remain Chairman of the Board. There's a short press release below to make it official.
Junkyard Gem: 1986 Mazda 323 DX Hatchback
Sat, Mar 14 2020Mazda built generation after generation of the Familia, starting with the Giugiaro-styled machines of the 1960s. The first Familia that sold well in North America was called the GLC (for "Great Little Car"), and it began life as a rear-wheel-drive cousin to the RX-7 before the Familia went to a front-wheel-drive platform for the 1981 model year. The GLC name stuck around these parts through 1985 — and I've documented a few discarded examples of these now-rare machines during my junkyard travels — before getting the 323 name starting in the 1986 model year. It's no sweat to find 1990s 323s in junkyards, but I've been scouring the car graveyards of the land for the elusive early 323 and, finally, found this moss-encrusted '86 in a San Francisco Bay Area yard. BMW popularized the lower-case-i nomenclature for fuel-injected cars with the first 3-Series back in the 1977 model year, and Mazda wasted no time making "1.6i" badges to tout the futuristic technology under the hood of their low-priced econo-commuter a decade later. At a time when most Civics had carburetors (and the notorious "Map of the Universe" diagram to untangle the underhood vacuum lines), the electronically fuel-injected engine in this car was a major selling point indeed. It wouldn't be many more years before the wretched Subaru Justy was the final carbureted Japanese car available in America, but this 1.6-liter B6 four-cylinder (which evolved into the engine that, flipped 90 degrees, powered the early Miatas) was high-tech stuff for a cheap car in 1986. Just 84 horsepower, but they were clean and reliable horses. In the middle 1980s, the common perception in North America was that you had to buy a Honda or Toyota if you wanted an affordable car that could make it to 200,000 miles. This 323 held together just as well as most Tercels or Civics from 1986. Of course, I've seen a junkyard RX-7 with 393,854 miles, so you just never know. When you see lots of moss and lichens on a car in a Northern California junkyard, you know it spent years — maybe decades — languishing in a shady outdoor spot. Perhaps this car racked up 20,000 miles per year slogging through a harrowing Lodi-to-Sausalito commute, then got parked and forgotten in 1996. We'll never know. With the optional automatic transmission — nearly every early 323 I've seen had the 5-speed manual — this car wouldn't have been much fun to drive. Point A to Point B would have been fine, though.
