1982 Custom Mazda Rx7, 80's Show Car on 2040-cars
Neshanic Station, New Jersey, United States
Up for auction is a 1982 Mazda RX7 GSL. After 31 years (yes, I’m the original owner ) of taking up space in my garage and hearing my wife complain, it’s time to find the RX7 a new home… I purchased the car new in 1982, used it sparingly for about three years then decided I wanted to create a show car. After about a years’ time in putting it together, followed by sometime on the local circuit, the car has remained under wraps in my garage. The RX7 has been a garage queen all its life… It’s never seen snow and as of last 5 – 10 years only taken out of the garage every other week to keep the fluids flowing. With a little TLC this vehicle could get back to show quality, turned into a weekend warrior or full blown track car. I’ll highlight some of things that were done to the car: · Purchased 5-1982 and has 15,416 mile on the car. Yes, that’s original miles on the car and the replace motor has just over 14,000 on it. The speedometer was sent out to Rotary Engineering for 130 MPH recalibration. · Car is in excellent condition for being 31 years old. No rust on · Motor- “Rotary Engineering’s Turbo Alternative” 13B 225HP Twin 36 DCD Carbs · High performance clutch and Flywheel · Body- Kent Racing Wide Body kit from Creative car products- Installed by Autotrix in NY · Rims- Epsilon 15/10’s and 15/8’s · Tires- 225-50-15F Dunlop’s Qualifiers (replaced 6 years ago) 265-50-15R BF Goodrich Comp TA’s · Custom Stereo System with built in Escort radar detector. Yes, it and 80’s car… Back then it was the best of the best. · Koni race strut and sway bars · Lamb’s wool seat covers installed when the car was new. What the car needs… · The combination switch will need to be replaced. No High beams. · Rear tires are 28 years old and in need of replacing. · Spider crack in paint on rear whale tail. See picture. · Interior dome light lens needs replacing · Needs a tune up and jets cleaned · Rear speakers may need replacing · My son’s bike fell over and hit the hood of the car. The small dent was repaired by a local body shop but it might need to be touched up to get back to show quality. The average eye won’t notice it. · AC does work, but I took the belt off of the compressor years ago to take advantage of power gains with the motor. · Car is in excellent condition for a vehicle 31 years old… The car is being sold as is, where is with no warranty, expressed written or implied. I have done my best to disclose any known defects associated with the vehicle and will address any potential buyer’s requests prior to the close of this auction. I will require a $500.00 non-refundable deposit within 24 hours of winning the auction. It will be the responsibility of the buyer to arrange for pick-up/delivery of the vehicle. Inspections can be performed prior to the auction close. Please don’t hesitate to ask questions. I reserve the right to end the auction early due to selling the vehicle locally. Good luck and happy bidding! |

Mazda Furai concept designer talks about his car's passing
Tue, 17 Sep 2013Last week, there was mourning at the Autoblog offices as word trickled in that the Mazda Furai concept - one of the coolest, best-looking showcars to grace an auto show stage since the wild and crazy 1960s -had been killed. It was killed on the track with the folks from Top Gear in attendance. We're sure the gods of driving would have wanted it to die on a circuit, but that doesn't make its fiery passing any easier to deal with.
The Furai is the rare concept car that had a lasting appeal with enthusiasts, partly because it was a real, functioning racecar, complete with a wacky three-rotor Wankel engine and cutting-edge Nagare design. Now that it's gone, though, Road & Track's Mallory McMorrow, who was an intern at Mazda Design when the Furai was being styled in 2007, has published an interview with one of the men who penned the Mazda showcar's striking exterior, Carlos Salaff. It's a great piece on the emotional connection between a designer and his creation, and one you should take the time to read. Click on over to R&T for the full story.
Half of Chinese car buyers won't shop Japanese over hard feelings
Mon, May 26 2014The hard feelings between China and Japan is no real secret. Besides modern-day disputes, the two countries have had a long-running enmity that dates back to well before the atrocities of World War II. All things considered, then, it shouldn't be a shock that half of Chinese car buyers wouldn't consider a Japanese car. This survey, conducted by Bernstein Research, found that 51 percent of 40,000 Chinese consumers wouldn't even consider a Japanese car – which, again, isn't really surprising, when you consider stories like this. According to Bernstein, the most troubling thing is the location of these sentiments – smaller, growing cities where the population is going to need sets of wheels. We imagine it wouldn't be as big of an issue in traffic-clogged Shanghai or Beijing, but these small cities are going to become a major focus for automakers. "Nationalistic feelings are an impediment. [Japanese] premium brands will struggle," analyst Max Warburton wrote in a research note, according to The Wall Street Journal. Things will improve for Japanese makes, although China will remain a challenge, with Warburton writing, "the one thing that comes out most clearly is that most Chinese really want a German car. While we expect Japanese brands to continue to recover market share this year, ultimately the market will belong to the Germans." There are a few other insights from the study. According to WSJ, Japanese brands are viewed better than Korean brands, and they're seen as more comfortable than the offerings from Germany or the US, despite the fact that everyone in China apparently wants a German car. This is a tough position for the Japanese makes to be in, as there's really not a lot they can do to win favor with Chinese buyers. It will be interesting to see how this plays out, particularly as the importance of the PRC continues to increase year after year. Goodwood Festival of Speed celebrating Mazda this year [w/video]
Sun, Feb 22 2015Mazda gets to wear the crown and sash as the doubly honored marque for the Goodwood Festival of Speed this year. The Japanese brand will be the focus of the Central Feature, the sculpture that sits outside Goodwood House, and its race cars will be the focus on the lawn, where there will be at least one representative from "every era of Mazda's motor sport achievement." The theme for this year's event is "Flat-out and fearless: racing on the edge." The showcase, of course, will be the 700-horsepower, rotary-engined 787B that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1991. It will run up the 1.6-mile Hillclimb while a Mazda challenger from the World Rally Championship runs the Forest Rally Stage, joining Andros Trophy ice racing and sportscar racing Mazdas. The festival happens from June 25-28 this year, and there's a press release with more details down below the video recap from 2014 and Mazda 787B Le Mans lap. This content is hosted by a third party. Le Mans-winning 787B to headline fantastic Mazda line-up at FoS 2015 Feb 18, 2015 -- Mazda is the only Japanese manufacturer to have won the world's most prestigious motor race – the Le Mans 24 Hours – and the victorious rotary-engined 787B, with its distinctive sound, is certain to be a crowd favourite as it winds its way up Goodwood's iconic 1.16-mile Hillclimb at the Festival of Speed this year. The 787B is part of a fabulous collection of racing and road machines that will be brought to the Festival by Mazda, in the year in which the company is also being honoured by the iconic Central Feature outside Goodwood House. Further motor sport success has been achieved in touring cars, the World Rally Championship, Andros Trophy ice racing and sportscar competition in the USA – in which Mazda's pioneering SKYACTIV-D turbodiesel technology is breaking new ground currently. In fact, every era of Mazda's motor sport achievement will be marked by some incredible competition cars both on the Hillclimb and the Forest Rally Stage as we celebrate the FoS theme 'Flat-out and fearless; racing on the edge'. The Moving Motor Show on June 25, will also showcase many of the key models from Mazda's current range.
