1980 Mazda Rx-7 Gs 2+2 13b Swap on 2040-cars
Orlando, Florida, United States
I have for sale my 1980 Mazda RX-7 with SA22C VIN code.
Engine: N/A 4-port 13B built with 12A irons and GSL-SE housings. Engine has a large-streetport, is dowel-pinned on the hot side, has RA Super Seals and rotors are race-toleranced for high RPM use (spark cut-off set at 10,000 RPM). Was built by the folks at Kilo Racing in Saint Cloud, FL. Compression is good at about 100PSI on each face of each rotor. The OMP is still hooked up and functional, but I also premix a small amount of TCW-3 2-stroke oil to supplement that just to be safe. Engine has approx. 22,000 miles on the build. Has twin MSD boxes and MSD Blaster coil packs with Magnecor EFI shielded racing wires. Plugs are brand-spanking-new NGK BR8EQ-14's. Is fed through a Racing Beat intake manifold topped off with a Holley 600 (Not RB) and Moroso low-pro air cleaner. The exhaust exits through an RB header collected into a 2.5 in pipe that runs to a no-name gutted muffler. The Carb has been rebuilt and retuned, new spark plugs (as stated above), new fuel filter, new Mallory FPR, new distributor cap and rotor, and is midway through and oil change. I have the old parts on hand as proof. My car has had the A/C removed, and twin belts run to the pulley and water pump/radiator fan. The fan does it's job excellently! Never seen the temp gauge go above half way. Drivetrain/Suspension: Driveshaft is welded on both ends and car has original non-LSD axle. The transmission was rebuilt at Kilo Racing at the same time the engine was built. The exhaust rubs the axle so you can hear clunks now and then. Engine mounts are in superb condition. Discs and drums are in good condition as well. The car is lowered 1 in from factory height and sits on stock wheels wrapped in Kumho Solus KR21's 185/70-13 section tires. Front suspension has RB sway bar. Interior: All original black vinyl and is worn for it's age. Seats have tears along the inner seams like every other older vehicle. The headliner is missing and a few knobs and other small trim pieces. My car also has rear seats. Not sure if they are factory or not. Exterior: Body was resprayed 7 years ago the factory Stardust Blue color. There is some bubbling along the spoiler, driver side corner corner of the the rear glass, and in front of the windshield. Haven't seen them grow since I've had the car and are still small enough to take care of easily. The car also has a body-colored sunroof that has it's vinyl interior panel in place. Goes up and down with no problems and doesn't leak a bit. Windows need help going up and down, and also don't leak. All of the glass on the car is original. All the exterior lighting works except the turn signals. They didn't work when I bought the car, so I used hand signals and simply got so used to doing that I never bothered to check out why they don't work. Reason For Selling: I've used my RX-7 as a daily driver for the last 7 months out of necessity and at 9-10 MPG, my wallet is perpetually thin, and as a college student it gets hard to feed the beast and make payments for courses. As my daily, I take maintenance VERY SERIOUSLY with this car and it has rewarded me with superb reliability. I never have to worry if she'll start in the morning. If you're looking for a d.d. RX-7 or a base for restoration, this is a perfect starter. Also, again, since it's my daily, the mileage will obviously increase over time. I'm close to 78K on the chassis and 23K on the engine. Next oil change is due at 79K. I've put a good amount of money and time into parts and labor (other's and my own) to make sure she runs for many more miles. I've had my time with the car, enjoyed it, loved it, and now I'm ready to let it go. Clean title, registered antique, call or text (321) 527-6824. Thanks for looking! |

Mazda3 diesel under consideration for US, hybrid not so much
Thu, 27 Jun 2013It's been a long time coming, but we finally clapped our eyes on the real deal, officially official 2014 Mazda3 in hatchback form yesterday. Yet there's a lot more to learn about this next-generation version of what has always been one of our favorite compacts. We know that the US version will come with one of two Skyactiv engines, but what about alternatives? Will there be any... or will the gasoline-fed four-cylinders be powerful and frugal enough to carry the day?
According to Automotive News, the answer is a definite maybe. Mazda North America CEO Jim O'Sullivan has told the trade publication that his employer will consider adding the company's well-liked 2.2-liter Skyactiv diesel powerplant to the model down the road. However, the company first wants to see how the engine fares with American consumers in its big-brother Mazda6 sedan, a model that goes on sale later this year. As for a potential Mazdaspeed3 successor, mum is still the word.
Anything else? Uncharacteristically, Mazda will build a hybrid model of its new 3. We say "uncharacteristically," because the Japanese independent has long shied away from gas-electric powertrain tech. In fact, it's gone so far as to boldly announce its aversion to the technology, with auto show banners proclaiming "Not Electric. Not Hybrid. Not A Drag To Drive." Despite all that, this new generation of Mazda3 will in fact be the company's first full hybrid production model. According to AN, however, O'Sullivan says that the company has "no plans" to sell it in the US.
Mazda reveals 25th anniversary edition MX-5 Miata alongside next-gen chassis
Thu, 17 Apr 2014Ford may be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Mustang this week, but it's not the only automaker with a sports car icon to fete at this year's New York Auto Show. Mazda is also celebrating the 25th anniversary of the MX-5 Miata with an array of 15 classic models. It's also showing off the chassis for the next MX-5, and unveiling a special 25th Anniversary Edition.
The special edition is based on the retractable hardtop model with either manual or automatic transmission, Bilstein shocks, a metallic red paint job with contrasting black roof and an off-white leather interior. Naturally, special badging can be found inside and out to set it apart from the record 940,000 other MX-5s sold to date, and just 100 examples will find their way to US buyers.
Along with the two-tone special, Mazda is also showing off the new Skyactiv chassis and engine that'll underpin and power the upcoming next-generation MX-5 (as well as an as-yet-to-be-determined Fiat Group roadster if the two parties can work out their differences). With a lower center of gravity that's also closer to the middle of the car, the new chassis promises even better balance and a good couple hundred pounds of weight savings over the outgoing model. Check it all out in the press releases below.
2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata priced from $24,915
Mon, Mar 30 2015When Ford introduced the 2015 Mustang, it gave us 300 percent more car for about 10 percent more money. Mazda has done even better with the MX-5 Miata: the current roadster starts at $23,970 in Sport trim with a five-speed manual, the smaller, lighter, sharper 2016 model is just under $1,000 more, starting at $24,915 with a six-speed manual. Destination, unchanged, adds $820 to that MSRP. It is divided into the same three tiers of Sport, Club, and Grand Touring but the standard feature set grows, with the departure of that five-speed manual for six-speeders across the board, LED headlights, and extra infotainment functionality. Mazda says it will release more pricing in the future, but so far things just keep looking up for the one of the best little roadsters out there. The press release below has more. Related Video: MAZDA ANNOUNCES STARTING PRICE FOR 2016 MX-5 Fourth-generation MX-5 stays true to affordable convertible sports car roots IRVINE, Calif. (March 30, 2015) – Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) today announced that the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata will start at $24,9151 in entry-level Sport trim. Mazda has instilled the latest MX-5 with the pure driving experience that has won worldwide fanfare since the arrival of the first-generation MX-5 in 1989 as a 1990 model. Yet, the fourth-generation MX-5 provides Mazda's latest safety features and technologies and maintains an inflation-adjusted price close to that of the original roadster. The 2016 MX-5 launches this summer and will be available in Sport, Club and Grand Touring trim levels. "As we get closer to the MX-5's summer on-sale date, we're seeing a surge in interest and excitement from enthusiasts and journalists," said Jim O'Sullivan, president and CEO, MNAO. "Already, early MX-5 reviews have been overwhelmingly positive, and we expect the momentum that MX-5 has garnered to continue to build as drivers get behind the wheel of our fourth-generation sports car." Infused with SKYACTIV® TECHNOLOGY and KODO-Soul of Motion design, the 2016 MX-5 is smaller, lighter and more aggressive than its predecessor, with the base MX-5 Sport expected to outperform the sportiest previous road-going variants. However, even with its focus on delivering maximum driving enjoyment, the 2016 MX-5 boasts more creature comforts and a more functional interior than the vehicle it replaces.
