1979 Mazda Rx-7 S Coupe 2-door 1.1l on 2040-cars
Lafayette, New Jersey, United States
For sale: 1979 Mazda RX7. All original, interior, paint, wheel, etc. This car is as when purchased new. This car is automatic with 35,825 original miles; color is white and has a sunroof. One adult owned. I only transferred title to my name. As I know, the car spent most of its life garaged and while I've been in possession of her she has remained garaged. She has not been modified or altered. The paint is all-original. There are several spots that appear to have been touched up prior to me. There is a small spot of rust by the rear hatchback. The interior is original. There are a couple of spots in the interior that show wear, more specifically a seam and cut. I purchased the trim for the door handle pulls, but have not installed them. I periodically run, wash and clean the interior; she isn't taken out and driven. The Paint is original but is not as shinny as when new. There is only slight surface rust on the frame rails as far as I can see. For the age, she is quite clean. The engine is unmodified and stock. I replaced the battery with a Diehard Gold. Tires are in great shape as they have extremely low miles by the amount of tread remaining. The spare is full size and has the same rim as pictured on the car. The car does come with factory air conditioning, but needs a recharge/servicing. Am/Fm radio, manual steering. One of the retractable headlight motors does not operate,
but does rotate freely and can be manually deployed. All the lighting interior
and exterior operates as it should. Not pictured is the rear louver that came with the car. It currently is not on the car and needs to have the hinges repaired. The hinges were damaged during its transportation to me. Overall the car is a good example of what the car looked liked when new. The RX7 was originally purchased in California. Since taking possession of her I have kept her in running order. However I do not drive the vehicle. I have garage kept her in the same location and the stall where she lives and does not show any fluid on the concrete. The rear axle differential area is moist, but no drips, but I don't know if that was from a previous servicing or the oil wicking. I have not inspected the brakes but in the short driving around the block they have worked fine and did not pull at that time. I have the owners Log Book,Manufacturer's Limited warranty and service book and the owners manual. All manuals are original. I only have one set of keys and the main key does show Mazda. I could not confirm it is the original. The only records I have are what is listed in the service book. Since the car only has 35,825 mile, the last entry was on 5/16/83. I was not given any other records for maintenance services. (I also have the original invoice.) I only titled the vehicle in my state. It has not been through any state inspection in the recent few years. It was last titled and registered in Connecticut (approx. 2002). If you wanted to inspect the car, it can be arranged. Please inspect the photos. I've tried to represent the condition as best one can, but it is best, as you know, to inspect the vehicle in person! (Questions, please give 48 hours to get back, usually it is much sooner!) The RX7 is available for inspection. For additional pictures: m.flickr.com/#/photos/flying480/sets/72157630985748062/ |

Masamichi Kogai new Mazda president and CEO
Fri, 10 May 2013There's some executive rearranging going on in the top suite at Mazda Motor Corporation in Japan, with current CEO Takashi Yamanouchi telling reporters there "I'd like to hand over the work to younger people" now that the company has returned to profitability. Yamanouchi became CEO on November 19, 2008 of an independent Mazda that had to fight for its future in the immediate aftermath of the global financial crisis. What followed was four years of losses before finally getting back to black last year.
Masamichi Kogai (pictured) will be appointed the new president and CEO on June 25, pending approval at the company's annual general shareholders' meeting. Kogai assisted Seita Kanai with the production-efficiency initiative that Mazda called Mono Tsukuri Innovation, which worked to give export-dependent Mazda the best chance at profitability in spite of a rising yen. Kogai, lately in charge of production and purchasing, has been with the company since 1977 and worked in areas from R&D to logistics.
Kanai, who headed the Mono Tsukuri effort and was among the leadership on Skyactiv, will be promoted from executive vice president to vice chairman. Akira Marumoto will become executive VP of Mazda and assistant to new president Kogai. Yamanouchi will remain Chairman of the Board. There's a short press release below to make it official.
NFL player Alfred Morris receives his thoroughly restored 1991 Mazda 626
Tue, 15 Oct 2013Washington Redskins starting running back Alfred Morris might not drive a flashy sports car or SUV, but after today, he'll be driving the nicest 1991 Mazda 626 on the planet.
Back in July, Morris temporarily traded in his 626 - cheekily named Bentley - for a 2014 Mazda6 loaner courtesy of Mazda, and today the sedan was presented back to him after the ultimate PR stunt: a reported 275-man-hour restoration that left this 22-year-old daily driver looking like it just rolled off the assembly line.
Not everything was brought back to original condition, though. The expired sticker from Morris' final year at Florida Atlantic University was left on the windshield, but to fit the car's nickname, a few high-end touches were added to the interior. This includes the quilted, cross-stitched leather seats (just like a real Bentley) and the touchscreen Pioneer audio system. There's also a plaque under the hood marking this car as the "Alfred Morris Project."
Modded budget Mazda Miata takes on new Porsche Boxster in more challenges
Tue, 23 Sep 2014Earlier this month, our friends across the pond at Auto Express released the first in a two-video series that would see them try and build up a second-generation Mazda MX-5 Miata that could best a standard Porsche Boxster around the track. While that first video detailed the mods to the MX-5 - a supercharger, some suspension upgrades and a new set of super-sticky rubber being chief among them - and set baseline lap times for the stock car, today, we have the results of the 5,000-pound ($8,200) upgrade job.
Of course, we aren't going to spoil those for you. You'll need to watch the full video, which recaps the upgrades before digging into a comparison of both straight-line-speed differences between the 2.7-liter Porsche Boxster and blown Miata, as well as their behavior and lap times on the track.
Take a look and let us know what you think in Comments.
