Background:

This is the Speed 3 model with a 2.3L turbocharged DOHC engine with direct injection and variable valve timing. The Speed 3 comes standard with a 6 speed limited slip manual transmission.
These cars are fast and well equipped. The 2007 Mazda Mazdaspeed 3 is available only as a four-door hatchback and in two trim levels: Sport and Grand Touring. The Sport comes standard with 18-inch wheels, performance tires, a limited-slip front differential, a roof spoiler, automatic climate control, sport seats, a tilt/telescoping steering column, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with built-in audio and cruise controls, special Mazdaspeed interior trim, an auxiliary audio jack and pre-wiring for satellite radio. The Grand Touring adds auto on/off HID xenon headlights, rain-sensing wipers, leather seat bolsters, a trip computer and a seven-speaker Bose stereo.

Recent Service:

Just performed was a major service to update the VVT actuator. The VVT actuator, timing chain, tensioner, chain guides, friction washers, and necessary gaskets were replaced. The spark plugs were replaced with this service. The EGR and throttle body was cleaned. The oil was changed with Mobil 1 full-synthetic which is what I always used. The factory installed VVT actuator is a faulty part and Mazda released a service bulletin to install the updated part and extended the warranty to cover the parts. This car did not fall into the warranty period and so was an out of pocket expense. This is a common update needed to these cars and afterwards makes a big difference in smoothness of the engine and the MPG achieved.

Upgrades:

This vehicle is mostly stock but does have a couple additions.

Injen cold air intake. It is mounted up in the fender with a hydro guard. This intake makes the car have great turbo and blow-off sounds.
JBR rear polyurethane motor mount. This helps the feel of shifting and the engine greatly. It does add a very small amount of vibration felt mostly when engine braking occurs.

Body:

The car has only a few small imperfections. It has some small rock chips in the front bumper/hood area. There is a scrape on the very bottom of the front bumper on the passenger side.

Interior:

The interior is clean and well kept. There are some small scuffs and the passenger seat has a light stain on it that has been there from when I purchased the car.

Known Questionable:

The six-disc CD changer is not installed in the car. It did not work when I purchased the car and I removed it. All the other options work, AUX input, radio, etc.
When it is cold outside I feel like the 1st to 2nd gear is hard. It has been the same from when I purchased the car a year ago, but I feel it is worth mentioning. When it is cold you have to shift slower to not grind a little. After a few miles the 1st to 2nd is fine. I have read about additives and things that help but I have not tried any. I changed the transmission fluid with Royal Purple fluid when I first purchased the car.

I am an honest seller and have listed much more than most dealers would ever disclose. I am hopeful the new owner will be happy and pleased with this car. I have enjoyed the car greatly and now must unfortunately sell it to purchase a truck as my needs have changed.

Please feel free to ask any questions. The car is sold AS-IS as I am a private seller and will not be in a place to offer a warranty.

I will accept cash for a day of pick up or a bank check/money order with time to clear which will be a few business days.
Please contact me with any questions regarding shipping. Any shipping will be the sole responsibility of the buyer, but contact me first so we can discuss it please.

As a last note I will cancel any bidder with less than a positive feedback score of 10 without having contacted me first.

Thank you for looking and happy bidding!

2015 Mazda2 spotted on the road

Tue, 15 Apr 2014

When Mazda unveiled the Hazumi Concept at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, our excitement for the next Mazda2 increased considerably. The Hazumi looks to retain much of the driving character that makes the current 2 one of the very best cars in its segment while infusing it with more aggressive styling. Of course, when the 2 arrives, it won't look exactly like the Hazumi. That's why these spy photos are so important.
This is our very first look at the next-generation 2, and although the Hazumi influence might be difficult to discern, thanks to the swirly camo, it's still there. The grille shape and the headlights are very similar in shape to the items shown on the concept, while the camouflage disguises the shape of the greenhouse, which looks somewhat like the Hazumi.
What we can't see, though, is under the hood. That's where our spies come in, reporting that a pair of 1.5-liter SkyActiv engines will see action in the tossable 2. The former, which we'll almost certainly see in the US, is a gas-powered mill found in the Euro-spec Mazda3. In the larger 3, it produces 99 horsepower and 111 pound-feet of torque, which is broadly similar to what the current 2's 1.5-liter pumps out. The other engine, a 1.5-liter SkyActiv diesel, probably won't be making the trip, although we'll continue to hope.

Japanese automakers ramping production for renewed American sales

Wed, 21 Nov 2012

The 2011 earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan took quite the toll on the automotive industry in that nation. Not content to lean on that tragedy as excuse for slagging sales, the Japanese automakers are planning on a major production expansion in North America. The aim is to reclaim the market share lost from the Tsunami-based dip, and overcome a dollar/yen exchange rate that makes exporting to America unprofitable.
Following the Tsunami, Japanese automakers ramped up production in their North American facilities to compensate, but according to Automotive News, Nissan, Honda and others have all reported plans for still-further increased production in the year ahead. As part of this ramp-up, Mazda will open a facility in Salamnca, Mexico before March of 2014. Part of that increase in output is 50,000 units of a Toyota-badged compact car, which Mazda will produce.
Other Mexican production facilities opening include a Honda plant, which will open in Spring 2014 in Celaya, and a Nissan plant, set to open later this year in Aguascalientes. Nissan also said that it will need another plant in North America within the next five years. According to Nissan Boss Carlos Ghosn, the company aims to raise its stake in the US market from 8 percent to 10, and adding production will help achieve that goal. Even Mitsubishi is aiming to boost production at its Normal, Illinois plant. Production of the Outlander Sport is currently at 50,000, which Mitsubishi wants to raise to 70,000.

Mazda Skyactiv-D racer first diesel to run at Indy in 60 years

Thu, 25 Jul 2013

While it may not be touting the old "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday" axiom we all know and love, Mazda recognizes that racing can only improve its cars. And so it's no surprise that the Japanese automaker is testing and refining its Skyactiv-D diesel engine by sending it out on various race tracks around the country - notably being the first diesel ever to compete at Daytona and the first to notch a Grand Am win at Road Atlanta.
Next up? Indy. It has been over 60 years since a diesel-powered machine ran at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and the Cummins-powered racer that competed in the 1952 Indy 500 with a 6.6-liter inline-six-cylinder oil-burner was a fast and brutal machine that set a new lap record in qualifying leading up to the race. Though that car was withdrawn with turbocharger failure 71 laps in, its diesel powerplant left an indelible impression on the racing community, and that's something Mazda hopes to accomplish once again.
Mazda says that the diesel engine in its race car is pretty darn close to stock - 51 percent stock by parts count, and 63 percent stock by weight - which means the way it performs in competition is at least a somewhat meaningful way to the stock engine's durability in the real world. Check out the image of the Mazda6 Skyactiv-D racer posing alongside the 1952 Cummins above (click to enlarge) and feel free to peruse the press release below for the rest of the details.
