2001 Metallic green Mazda Miata with original tan top, tan leather interior and carpets with Nardi Torino trim and factory Bose stereo. Top has glass rear window with built in defroster. This was the first year for the NB generation (1999-2005) facelift including restyling of the front bumper cover and adding fog lights. This was also the year that variable valve timing was introduced bumping up power and fuel economy. The transmission is a 6 speed manual.

Overall the car is in good condition and is clean. The car has 143,000 miles and has normal wear and tear like some wear on floor mats, drivers leather seat a few minor scuffs and scratches in paint etc. the car runs and drives great (I have been getting 32-35mpg driving it back and forth to work). It has new wheels and tires (wheels from 2013 Mini Cooper) and continental extreme contact 205/45ZR16 tires with less than 10,000 miles on them. The car is inspected in PA until May 2014. I have the title in my hand and also a copy of the car fax (clean/no accidents).

The car is being sold as it is a 2nd vehicle used to commute to work but my company has opened a satellite office that is only 25 miles round trip compared to the 80 I was previously driving.
There are 2 issues with the car that require or will require attention in the near future. These are both common problems that plague the Miata.

1. The rear main seal has a very slow leak (few drops of oil when parked overnight/extended period of time)
2. The passenger side outer rocker panel (body/cosmetic only) has an area of rust. The structural panel underneath is only pitted and does not require repair at this time. I was planning on cutting away the rusted metal, coating with rust inhibitor and installing factory side skirts which I purchased directly through Mazda to cover the area. I have not done this work yet since I decided to sell the car I want the buyer to be able to repair in whatever way they see fit. The side skirt kit is going to with the car to the buyer. The driver side is showing signs of rusting from the inside also but it has not yet shown on the outside. Another option is purchasing new stamped steel outer rocker panels and cutting the bad part out of the existing panels and welding the new ones in. The prefabricated panels cost $90 each side.

2016 Mazda CX-9 images leak online

Tue, Nov 17 2015

We will get a complete look at the next-gen Mazda CX-9 during the big debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show within the next couple of days. Until then, these newly leaked images from Carscoops provide a great preview of the upcoming three-row model ahead of the event. These shots echo the design from the recent teaser sketch quite closely, but the headlights aren't as sharply defined on the real thing. The single photo of the front end largely hides the grille, but it appears to follow the shield-like styling of the latest CX-3 and CX-5. The two images of the rear show narrow taillights like the brand's other CUVs, but with a thin strip of chrome that runs over the hatch to visually connect both sides. Bulging fenders at both axles lend some extra toughness to the shape. The CX-9 looks to continue Mazda's recent knack for great interior design. The stylists finish the dashboard in a mix of copper and black, and metallic trim helps lighten things. The infotainment system rises from the center, and comfortable looking leather seats pick up the brown in the color scheme to lend a luxurious atmosphere. The leaked photos didn't come with any technical info about the CX-9. However, rumors suggests a powertrain with a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and all-wheel drive. More details should arrive during the crossover's imminent launch in LA.

Patent application suggests Mazda rotary return

Mon, Apr 4 2016

A recent patent application by Mazda reveals that the Japanese automaker is still working on the rotary engine. This could in fact be the Skyactiv-R engine found in the RX-Vision concept from the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. As with anything Wankel-related, nothing is certain until Mazda makes a production commitment. But this filing suggests that serious development is happening in Hiroshima. The 2011 Mazda RX-8 was the last rotary-powered car you could buy in America. Slow sales, poor fuel economy, and tighter emissions standards prevented Mazda from committing to a follow-up. But the fundamental principles of the rotary - compact size and light weight - perfectly fit Mazda's Skyactiv ethos. (For an explanation of how rotaries work, click here.) In this new engine the intake port sits at the bottom of the engine with the exhaust port on top instead of the other way around. That allows for lower mounting, which improves a car's center of gravity. This rotary is also turbocharged. Putting the turbo up high helps ensure it doesn't get in the way of any body or chassis crossmembers. The implication of those claims is that somebody is thinking about how to put this engine in a car. There are other benefits as well. The short path from the exhaust port to the turbo ensures minimal turbo lag. It also allows for a close-mounted catalyst on top of the enigne, which will help emissions. Another innovation in this new engine is a triangle-shaped rotor that covers part of the exhaust port. This allows for different exhaust flow characteristics. The filing claims that that two of the four orientations allow for less airflow resistance in the exhaust port. As in previous Mazda rotaries, there are two spark plugs to manage ignition timing and combustion. But unlike in the 16X concept, Mazda's last public display of such an engine, the new rotary uses port fuel injection. Keep in mind this is only a patent application. A Mazda spokesperson refused to comment on future product, but commented "As we stated at the Tokyo motor show, Mazda is doing all that it can to bring a rotary to the market." In the meantime, keep your RX-7 prayer candles lit and hope for the return of the rotary before the end of the decade. You can bide your time by reading the entire application here. 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata won't get power folding hardtop

Thu, 11 Sep 2014

Following the reveal of the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata, more and more details (and rumors - oh, the rumors) are coming out regarding exactly what's in store when the car finally goes on sale. Our own Chris Paukert had plenty to say about the exterior and interior, and we've now seen the first photo of the engine. But a new report from Automobile sheds even more light on the 2016 Miata - specifically, that the power folding hardtop model won't be available, at least initially.
Automobile reports that the 2016 MX-5 will only be offered with a cloth top, and an insider confirmed that the mechanism is light and accessible enough that it can be raised and lowered with one hand from inside the car. Mazda officials would not comment on the availability of a hardtop in the coming years.
That said, a hardtop Miata isn't out of the question. There will likely be some sort of fixed roof available - even as a one-piece, lift-off accessory - if only for club racing. Also, remember that the current NC Miata's hardtop is the only one on the market that doesn't take up any additional trunk space, so it's an attractive proposition for buyers. Currently, the power hardtop is only offered on the Club and Grand Touring MX-5 Miata trims.
