1999 Mazda Miata Convertible - New Soft Top, 5 Speed Manual, Great Summer Car on 2040-cars
Durham, North Carolina, United States
1999 Mazda Miata Mx5 for sale. 5-speed manual. Mileage: 109k miles. Brand new soft top installed March 2014. Tires replaced 9 months ago and have 4,000 miles on them. Power windows, leather seats, cold A/C, radio/cassette, power steering, power mirrors. Reliable and runs well. Clean title.
Reliable, fun little convertible. I have owned it for four years and love this car (bought it from a dealership in 2010), but I am now moving to NYC so I am selling the car. Everything in the car runs like new and under the hood it is solid. I drive this car almost every day on my short drive to work, and it never gives me problems. Overall, the car looks great. There are no dings or major scratches anywhere on the body. A few minor cosmetic details - the front bumper finish is peeling, there are a few small spots of peeling on the back bumper as well, and the paint on the mirrors is fading. It's a beauty as is, but with a little bit of cosmetic work she would look like new. The passenger tail light cover is cracked as well (pictured), but is fully functional and passed inspection. Have looked into it and it is an easy fix. On the interior, everything is in great shape except for a small rip in the leather on the passenger seat. A seat cover would easily fix that. Belts replaced in November, car well maintained and runs great. Overall, the car runs well and is a fun summer car! Title in hand - Cash preferred! |

2014 Mazda6: July/August 2013
Thu, 05 Sep 2013Our newest long-termer - the Soul Red 2014 Mazda6 seen here - arrived in my driveway at the end of June. Without hesitation, I immediately put it to work as a daily driver, carpool bus and family vacation sled, and it accomplished all of those tasks with aplomb. Now, more than 4,000 miles down the road, I am left convinced that Mazda's latest midsize sedan is one of the best in its segment.
During the past 60 days, I have subjected the Mazda6 to scorching travel across Southwestern deserts, wheezing climbs over 8,000-foot-high Sierra Nevada mountain passes and basking in the cool ocean breezes of Malibu. It traveled with four passengers and a full load of luggage from Los Angeles to Lake Tahoe, and it braved the bumper-to-bumper freeway congestion on a weekday trip down to San Diego. It accomplished everything that was asked of while hardly skipping a beat - it has only required a regular sip of unleaded fuel to keep it moving forward.
Mazda3 diesel under consideration for US, hybrid not so much
Thu, 27 Jun 2013It's been a long time coming, but we finally clapped our eyes on the real deal, officially official 2014 Mazda3 in hatchback form yesterday. Yet there's a lot more to learn about this next-generation version of what has always been one of our favorite compacts. We know that the US version will come with one of two Skyactiv engines, but what about alternatives? Will there be any... or will the gasoline-fed four-cylinders be powerful and frugal enough to carry the day?
According to Automotive News, the answer is a definite maybe. Mazda North America CEO Jim O'Sullivan has told the trade publication that his employer will consider adding the company's well-liked 2.2-liter Skyactiv diesel powerplant to the model down the road. However, the company first wants to see how the engine fares with American consumers in its big-brother Mazda6 sedan, a model that goes on sale later this year. As for a potential Mazdaspeed3 successor, mum is still the word.
Anything else? Uncharacteristically, Mazda will build a hybrid model of its new 3. We say "uncharacteristically," because the Japanese independent has long shied away from gas-electric powertrain tech. In fact, it's gone so far as to boldly announce its aversion to the technology, with auto show banners proclaiming "Not Electric. Not Hybrid. Not A Drag To Drive." Despite all that, this new generation of Mazda3 will in fact be the company's first full hybrid production model. According to AN, however, O'Sullivan says that the company has "no plans" to sell it in the US.
Mazda Skyactiv-D racer first diesel to run at Indy in 60 years
Thu, 25 Jul 2013While it may not be touting the old "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday" axiom we all know and love, Mazda recognizes that racing can only improve its cars. And so it's no surprise that the Japanese automaker is testing and refining its Skyactiv-D diesel engine by sending it out on various race tracks around the country - notably being the first diesel ever to compete at Daytona and the first to notch a Grand Am win at Road Atlanta.
Next up? Indy. It has been over 60 years since a diesel-powered machine ran at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and the Cummins-powered racer that competed in the 1952 Indy 500 with a 6.6-liter inline-six-cylinder oil-burner was a fast and brutal machine that set a new lap record in qualifying leading up to the race. Though that car was withdrawn with turbocharger failure 71 laps in, its diesel powerplant left an indelible impression on the racing community, and that's something Mazda hopes to accomplish once again.
Mazda says that the diesel engine in its race car is pretty darn close to stock - 51 percent stock by parts count, and 63 percent stock by weight - which means the way it performs in competition is at least a somewhat meaningful way to the stock engine's durability in the real world. Check out the image of the Mazda6 Skyactiv-D racer posing alongside the 1952 Cummins above (click to enlarge) and feel free to peruse the press release below for the rest of the details.
