I purchased this 1994 Miata in 1996 from a young couple who just had a baby and they needed a larger car.  It had 15,000 miles on it.  It was in perfect condition.  If you know the 1994 Miata, when taken care of it will last for several hundred thousand miles.  It now has 105,000 miles and is in perfect condition.  It has received every possible service and treatment and has always been garage kept.  At the time of purchase, the Miata was black.  It is now Emerald Green with sparkling Mica.  My plan was to create a unique and beautiful show car:  a one-of-a-kind.  When you see it you will agree it is all of these.  When you open the hood, you will see that every part of the engine has been chromed.  You will enjoy the 2-tone matching leather, wood trim throughout, the stereo system with 6-CD changer, 12 speakers, and AMP, yellow gauges, dual exhausts, and custom wheels.  This Miata has been my pride and joy.  As soon as I purchased it I began a process of mechanical upgrades, almost every one available from the aftermarket Miata company.  I joined a Miata club and got even more ideas for upgrades.   For example, the oil filter was relocated to the top of the engine and an oil cooler was installed in front of the radiator.  I have always used the highest octane gasoline and the best synthetic oil.  When I retired at the end of 1998 and moved to Florida I found an outstanding body shop.  Working closely with them we converted the Miata into a sculpture in metal, which includes the installation of Ford Mustang rear fender scoops, BMW Z3 front fender louvers, hood louvers, and Honda Gold Wing rear view mirrors with amber LED turn signals.  It has VW Beetle back-up lights, and properly proportioned Ferrari-type round LED tail lights in place of the stock tail lights, and a custom wing with a Cadillac de Ville upper brake light.  The pop-up head lights were replaced with proportioned Ferrari-type headlights.  Everything was done in the most tasteful way.  You need to see the Miata as the photos and list of enhancements and upgrades don't do it justice.  The two competitions that I entered the Miata in, I won both in my category.  Call me and I will be happy to discuss the car and its features in more detail.  Finally the sad part, due to my age and health, I am not able to use it anymore.  I would like someone to purchase it who will enjoy it and continue to take care of it.  If you want to own and drive a unique and beautiful Miata this is the car for you.

PAYMENT INFO:  Paypal is accepted for the deposit only.  A cashier's check or cash in person is required for the balance.  If paying by cashier's check, the check must clear to seller's account before the car will be released.  MONEY ORDERS ARE NOT ACCEPTED.  Full payment must be received within 7 days of auction close or withing 48 hours if it was a "Buy it Now" purchase.

SHIPPING INFO:  Buyer is responsible for picking up the vehicle or coordinating with the shipping company.

PERSONAL MESSAGE:  I understand there could be some concern that I do not have a history of transactions as a seller or buyer on Ebay.  This is because until now I have had no need or desire to have an Ebay account.  However, because I am selling such a highly customized car, Ebay was recommended as the best resource to reach a wide range of potential buyers.  Rest assured this is my car.   One that I have intimate knowledge of and I would welcome an opportunity to discuss any questions about the Miata, as well as my reasons for selling it, in an effort to alleviate any and all concern.

Mazda MX-5 Miata Cup racecar priced at $53,000

Thu, Oct 1 2015

The 2016 Global MX-5 Cup is one of very few internationally competitive racing series that the average person can imagine (or afford) getting into. The ready-to-race Miatas are available to order now for $53,000 and deliveries are set to begin later this year. The first one is actually already on track as a pace car at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. With competition planned in North America, Europe, and Asia, all of the cup cars are identically prepared to emphasize drivers' skill rather than their bank account. The full list of Cup components hasn't been announced yet, but the roll cage and stripped interior are obvious. The 2.0-liter SkyActiv four-cylinder is still under the hood, too. The Global MX-5 Cup will also offer competitors big rewards, including a $200,000 scholarship for the season champion to move another rung up the motorsports ladder. In addition, Mazda will bring together the top racers from across the world to Laguna Seca to crown a series world title holder in a finale event. That winner will get a test In Mazda's prototype from the IMSA Weathertech SportsCar Championship. For now, Mazda is giving first priority to buyers planning to compete in its series. In the future, buyers of MX-5 Cup cars have other competition options, being eligible for some classes in Sports Car Club of America and National Auto Sport Association racing. The reason is simple - great performance at an affordable price. The new Global Mazda MX-5 Cup race car follows that formula, and will be Mazda Motorsports' first-ever ready-to-race MX-5 Miata. The new race car will be available at the special introductory price of $53,000. The race car ordering process begins on www.MazdaMotorsports.com with first deliveries scheduled to begin later this year. 2016 Global Mazda MX-5 Cup Race Cars Having a turnkey, ready-to-race car removes the effort of engineering and costs of fabrication, enabling the racer to focus on racing. All racers can purchase identically-built race cars so that driving talent will be the number one determining factor for on-track performance, rather than budget, engineering capability or fabrication skills.

Asian automakers still reluctant to use more aluminum

Tue, Jun 24 2014

There's a logical progression of technology in the auto industry. We've seen it with things like carbon-ceramic brakes, which use to be the sole domain of six-figure sports cars, where they often cost as much as an entry level Toyota Corolla. Now, you can get them on a BMW M3 (they're still pricey, at $8,150). Who knows, maybe in the next four a five years, they'll be available on something like a muscle car or hot hatchback. Aluminum has had a similar progression, although it's further along, moving from the realm of Audi and Jaguar luxury sedans to Ford's most important product, the F-150. With the stuff set to arrive in such a big way on the market, we should logically expect an all-aluminum Toyota Camry or Honda Accord soon, right? Um, wrong. Reuters has a great report on what's keeping Asian manufacturers away from aluminum, and it demonstrates yet another stark philosophical difference between automakers in the east and those in the west. Of course, there's a pricing argument at play. But it's more than just the cost of aluminum sheet (shown above) versus steel. Manufacturing an aluminum car requires extensive retooling of existing factories, not to mention new relationships with suppliers and other logistical and financial nightmares. Factor that in with what Reuters calls Asian automaker's preference towards "evolutionary upgrades," and the case for an all-aluminum Accord is a difficult one. Instead, manufacturers in the east are focusing on developing even stronger steel as a means of trimming fat, although analysts question how long that practice can continue. Jeff Wang, the automotive sales director for aluminum supplier Novelis, predicts that we'll see a bump in aluminum usage from Japanese and Korean brands in the next two to three years, and that it will be driven by an influx of aluminum-based vehicles from western automakers into China. Only time will tell if he's proven right. News Source: ReutersImage Credit: Sean Gallup / Getty Images Plants/Manufacturing Honda Hyundai Mazda Nissan Toyota Technology aluminum

Teen Miata enthusiast and friend of Autoblog passes away

Tue, 09 Sep 2014

When Thomas' illness made it impossible for him to drive, he relied on friends to do it for him.
Attending the reveal of the 2016 MX-5 Miata and the subsequent 25th anniversary celebration at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca confirmed that the little roadster maintains broad appeal, one not limited to the elderly or a certain gender as detractors might have you believe. In fact, the assembled crowd was surprisingly youthful, particularly amongst the club racer set and tuners. But one young Miata owner and superfan unfortunately wasn't in attendance - Thomas Jost, 19, was busy fighting for his life in a Maryland hospital.
