****UP FOR SALE IS A 1993 MEGA MONSTER MIATA****

Monster Motorsports #0002 Mega Monster Miata with only 4,900 miles!

This car has been in storage and always garage kept. Monster Motorsports was a company back in the 90?s that did over 275 Monster Miata conversions, 130 of them being Mega Monster Miatas, turning a Mazda Miata MX-5 into a Monster! Technicians first tear down the Miata to the frame and reinforce it with custom fabricated engine and transmission mounts which are integrated with additional chassis reinforcements. The engine bay then becomes home for the supercharged 5-litre EFI Ford V8 engine. A K&N airfilter and a Kenne Bell polished Whipple supercharger provides 6.5 psi boost to lift power to 300kW at 4800 rpm and just under 490Nm of torque at 3200 rpm. The transmission is then replaced with the Ford T5 world class, smooth shifting, 5-speed manual transmission to take on the added horsepower.

This Mega Monster Miata would be great for any car enthusiast looking to showcase a unique car at the local Cars and Coffee, or for SCCA track day.

The car is a 93? Black/Black Mega Monster Miata. The “Mega” part means that in addition to the Ford 302 V8, there is a Kenne Bell Supercharger (polished, BTW) under the hood. The car is in absolute pristine condition. It has new car matts, new JVC head unit, volt gauge, water and oil temp gauge, boost gauge, convertible canopy cover, car cover, fully adjustable suspension with Bilstein shocks.

As mentioned above, this car has been garage kept and is in perfect running condition. The Mega Monster Miata is a lot fun to drive, but I am starting new projects, so I must let her go. Buyers will be seriously vetted. Thank you for looking, and happy bidding.

Mazda delays US launch of Skyactiv-D engine

Thu, 09 Jan 2014

Japanese automakers haven't lead the charge towards diesel power in the same way as, say, the Germans have. But Mazda is out to change that. It has been following Audi's lead on the racetrack with oil-burning racecars right here in America, and will soon translate that excitement to the road by introducing its Skyactiv-D engine in North America. It just won't happen as soon as we expected.
Mazda announced today that, while its diesel engine meets current emissions requirements, the company has decided once again to push back an introduction originally slated to kick off in the Spring. According to the brief statement below, Mazda wants to take more time to find "the right balance between fuel economy and Mazda-appropriate driving performance."
In other words, the Zoom-Zoom brand apparently thinks its diesel engine doesn't deliver the zoom-zoom American drivers would expect, so we'll have to wait just a little bit longer. Details to follow closer to launch, whenever that will ultimately take place.

Takashi Yamanouchi to retire as Mazda chairman

Mon, 12 May 2014

Takashi Yamanouchi has been with Mazda for a long time. He signed on with the Japanese automaker in April 1967 - one month after graduating from Keio University - and rose through the ranks over the years. By 1996 he was named to the company's board of directors. In 2008 he was named president and CEO, an office he held until 2013, after which he handed over the day-to-day reins to Masamichi Kogai and took up the seat at the head of the board room to serve as the company's chairman. But now, after 47 years working for Mazda, Yamanouchi-san is retiring at the age of 69.
During his tenure as CEO and then as chairman, Yamanouchi was credited with growing Mazda's business despite unfavorable fluctuations in exchange rates, opening the company's first plant in Mexico, and spearheading the development of Mazda's Skyactiv technologies and Kodo design language.
In his place, current vice chairman Seita Kanai will take over as chairman. The changing of the guard will take place after the annual shareholders' meeting on June 24.

Flyin' Miata is building a V8-powered MX-5 ND

Fri, Jan 8 2016

It's cold in many parts of the country, but this V8-swapped 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata that Flyin' Miata is developing has us dreaming about throwing on a parka and taking a very brisk drive. This beast is the product of the talented folks at Flyin' Miata, but we can't get too excited just yet. According to the company's brief Facebook post, this is just a dummy V8, placed under the Miata's hood to confirm fit. Judging by the photo, the engine fits like a glove. "There's still a long way to go before this is a real thing," Flyin' Miata writes, but the company admits everything looks "very promising" so far. The post doesn't mention any details about the estimated specs, but Autoblog reached out to Flyin' Miata for more information about this intriguing build. Keith Tanner, one of the mad scientists who shoehorns V8s into Miatas at the Colorado outfit, told us that Flyin' Miata is looking at both the LS3, which will provide between 430 and 525 hp, and the LT1 which is 460 hp out of the box. A supercharged LT4 is also being considered, but as Tanner put it, "that might be a little nuts" in a car as light as the ND. In any of these engine configurations, Tanner estimates the V8-swapped ND should comfortably be a sub-4 second to 60 mph car. The transmission will be a Tremec T56 Magnum six-speed manual. The suspension, brakes, fuel system, cooling system, and the chassis itself will all be beefed up to handle the power, as per normal FM practice. The one question mark is the rear end, as the ND's existing one simply won't be up to the task of putting that much horsepower to the ground. The 2016 Miata was one of the best cars we drove in 2015, but Flyin' Miata knows how to turn a standard MX-5 into an absolute hotrod with the company's LS3 V8 conversions for earlier models. Imagining the more modern chassis from the latest generation with a massive dollop of more power is an exciting thought. We can't wait to see how this project turns out. Related Video:
