PLEASE NOTE: I work for myself & can be readily avaiable to be here to have the car picked up, I can also afford up to 24 hours of travel at a time to deliver the car for a small fee plus estimated fuel cost.

Ok, so here is the deal... I purchased this vehicle in January for a much anticpated 3 month summer road trip.  I dumped just about $2,300 into making this thing run & drive like a CHAMP.  And it does!  But then the girlfriend ditched me, I cancelled the trip & I just don't need this style of car for myself.  This car is TIGHT.

The blue book value in "fair" condition is $2300, which this is certainly well above fair... especially once you see the "just done" work list!

But since this is an online listing, I more than welcome phone calls to discuss condition notes & recent repair list.  This car needs NOTHING & is a turn key & drive away with no worries! My feedback here on ebay can be some assurance I like to treat people right all the time, no matter the purchase size!  My number is lower in this listing.

This is a 1998 Mazda MPV All Sport.
It's a 2wd vehicle, with a push button AWD transfer case... but what's really unique and awesome, is there is another button that locks the rear differential making it a 4WD.  The best of ALL worlds!

The basics:
Awd/4wd
V6
4 Door
Rear hatch
Power windows
Power doorlocks
AC front & rear
Fog lamps
Roof rack (cartop carrier NOT included in sale)
seating for 7 (rear seats currently not in, will be for test drive)
Towing package (2.5" receiver)

A partial list of whats been done in the past 5 months (receipts for all):
Timing belt & all pulleys ($785)
Water pump
All lifters & rockers (pretty much rebuilt motor)
Valve cover seals
Rear air shocks ($600 repair) (car came with "auto leveler" but has been disconnected as they are $2k to replace)
$160 Optima Redtop Deep Cylcle battery
Full transmission flush & service
New exhast (from catalytic converter back)
Drivers power window setup (the whole inside of the door replaced, $395)
Starter
Plugs, wires, caps, rotor (less than 1 month old)
Rear wiper motor
Fuel Pump
Fuel filter
Throttle position sensor ($180)
And tons more that I just can't remember currently.

Passed DEQ with flying colors.  Current oregon tags
Starts instantly, shifts smoothly & is a TIGER in the snow & sand, a great AWD!
Interior is in good shape, some very minor spots & stains but nothing too funky, custom $80 deep well floor mats.
Tires are all at least 70% tread left, one is 95% & are nice A/T's... wheels aren't fantastic looking but solid.
Privacy glass
Roof rack (box does NOT come with)

I want anyone who comes to look to know what they're looking at so there are no surprises... I'm about as honest a guy as they come & I hate waisting my time & a potential buyers... so here is the bad list:

-Rear a/c & heat is disconnected.. the control switch is broken & stuck in the on position on high heat, it's 1 wire to plug in
-Small dent at drivers door handle
-Power locks/keyless entry non functioning (no FOB, never had one so can not confirm it would work)
-Very minor scratches here or there, the paint is fully glossy & very sharp looking!
-windshield has a chip that has been repaired, no cracks
-It sounds like there is an exhaust leak developing, it goes away once it's warmed up so it could just be the exhaust manifold needs torquing down (a broken bolt was extracted & replaced 2 months ago)

And that is just about it.  So like I said, I don't take car maintenance lightly & spent BIG bucks to make this car as reliable & sound as could be.  MY LOSS YOUR GAIN.  I just want something smaller for myself & am willing to hear offers, but don't make me laugh please.  I'm already offering a nearly fully rebuilt car for the lowest blue book.

Car has 205k miles on it currently, clean title in hand in my name & ready to hand over!

Please call 503.875.4557 for any questions or if there are more specific images you'd like to see.

Trades I'd consider: Astro Van, vanagon, awd station wagon, dual sport, enduro, motorcycle, VW Van...

Half of Chinese car buyers won't shop Japanese over hard feelings

Mon, May 26 2014

The hard feelings between China and Japan is no real secret. Besides modern-day disputes, the two countries have had a long-running enmity that dates back to well before the atrocities of World War II. All things considered, then, it shouldn't be a shock that half of Chinese car buyers wouldn't consider a Japanese car. This survey, conducted by Bernstein Research, found that 51 percent of 40,000 Chinese consumers wouldn't even consider a Japanese car – which, again, isn't really surprising, when you consider stories like this. According to Bernstein, the most troubling thing is the location of these sentiments – smaller, growing cities where the population is going to need sets of wheels. We imagine it wouldn't be as big of an issue in traffic-clogged Shanghai or Beijing, but these small cities are going to become a major focus for automakers. "Nationalistic feelings are an impediment. [Japanese] premium brands will struggle," analyst Max Warburton wrote in a research note, according to The Wall Street Journal. Things will improve for Japanese makes, although China will remain a challenge, with Warburton writing, "the one thing that comes out most clearly is that most Chinese really want a German car. While we expect Japanese brands to continue to recover market share this year, ultimately the market will belong to the Germans." There are a few other insights from the study. According to WSJ, Japanese brands are viewed better than Korean brands, and they're seen as more comfortable than the offerings from Germany or the US, despite the fact that everyone in China apparently wants a German car. This is a tough position for the Japanese makes to be in, as there's really not a lot they can do to win favor with Chinese buyers. It will be interesting to see how this plays out, particularly as the importance of the PRC continues to increase year after year. Japanese automakers ramping production for renewed American sales

Wed, 21 Nov 2012

The 2011 earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan took quite the toll on the automotive industry in that nation. Not content to lean on that tragedy as excuse for slagging sales, the Japanese automakers are planning on a major production expansion in North America. The aim is to reclaim the market share lost from the Tsunami-based dip, and overcome a dollar/yen exchange rate that makes exporting to America unprofitable.
Following the Tsunami, Japanese automakers ramped up production in their North American facilities to compensate, but according to Automotive News, Nissan, Honda and others have all reported plans for still-further increased production in the year ahead. As part of this ramp-up, Mazda will open a facility in Salamnca, Mexico before March of 2014. Part of that increase in output is 50,000 units of a Toyota-badged compact car, which Mazda will produce.
Other Mexican production facilities opening include a Honda plant, which will open in Spring 2014 in Celaya, and a Nissan plant, set to open later this year in Aguascalientes. Nissan also said that it will need another plant in North America within the next five years. According to Nissan Boss Carlos Ghosn, the company aims to raise its stake in the US market from 8 percent to 10, and adding production will help achieve that goal. Even Mitsubishi is aiming to boost production at its Normal, Illinois plant. Production of the Outlander Sport is currently at 50,000, which Mitsubishi wants to raise to 70,000.
