1970 Fiat 850 Sport Spyder on 2040-cars
Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States
You are bidding on a 1970 Fiat 850 Spyder. EBay Listings for the Fiat 850 Spyder have become scarce over the last few years and should continue to decline as restorable examples have been bought up. These cars are pure fun to throw into turns, dip into the throttle, and push near the edge of tire grip. It's unusual coil spring independent rear suspension and single leaf spring front end combined with the rear engine, rear wheel drive work great together. My preference is top down during the day in the winter, top down at night in the summer, right and left handers in any season. I've owned the car for 10 years after purchasing it on the West Coast. I have done almost nothing to the body or interior other than cleaning and minor repairs. The convertible top is new and, just like the car, has lived it's entire stationary life during my ownership in my garage. All the glass is perfect. The door hinges have been rebuilt. EVERY light, small or large works, and all the gauges work. Wipers, courtesy lights, horn, dimmer, hi-low switch, idiot lights, heater motor high and low, and the cigarette lighter all work. Door locks work, windows crank properly, and that is an NOS Vitaloni mirror on the driver's side. It has three new tires (don't ask) and a spare along with the original Fiat tool kit. The list of things done to mechanicals is extensive and includes:
Addition of the under car cooler was needed to drive in our toasty 95 degree summers. Negative items: There is one baseball size area of rust directly behind the gas pedal and some rust around the master cylinder. This is the result of someone spilling brake fluid around the master, which then ran down a drain hole into a flexible drain hose, ate through the drain hose (NOS hose has replaced it) and fell on the floor board. The rust around the master has been treated, I will leave it to the next owner to fix the floor board. The seams on the seats are starting to come apart so it is time for some repair. Otherwise the seats show little wear. The floor liner has seen better days. These can be purchased as a kit or replaced with carpets. Please note that the vehicle is sold as is, where is, without any warranty. I have tried to be thorough describing the vehicle as possible. I am happy to answer questions. A $500 pay pal deposit is required within two days by the winning bidder. The balance must be paid in 5 days by cash or by certified bank check and shipping will not commence until my bank has verified non returnable receipt of the funds. Buyer is responsible for shipping but I will assist in any way I can. |

40+ cars that barely avoid the gas guzzler tax
Thu, 24 Jul 2014
The Gas Guzzler schedule, with mpg ratings and charges that haven't changed since 1991, lays out which fuel-swillers owe what to Uncle Sam.
I started thinking about the "Gas Guzzler Tax" - considerably less well known as The Energy Tax Act of 1978 - when I was driving Dodge's new Challenger SRT Hellcat last week. Unsurprisingly for a car that can burn 1.5 gallons of gas per minute at max tilt, theoretically able to empty a full tank of premium in about 13 minutes, the Hellcat will be subject to the Gas Guzzler Tax schedule when it goes on sale.
Reid Bigland appointed CEO of Alfa Romeo, Maserati
Tue, May 24 2016There's been a big shakeup in Fiat Chrysler's leadership team, as head of US sales and FCA Canada CEO Reid Bigland will replace Harald Wester as the chief exec for Alfa Romeo and Maserati. Wester will retain his position as chief technical officer of FCA. Both men will hang onto their positions on FCA's Group Executive Council. The move is an interesting one considering the widely publicized issues at both Alfa and Maserati. Alfa Romeo's problems are almost too many to list. The brand has promised a full-scale return to the US market for more than a decade, but faced repeated delays. Its latest volume model, the Giulia, is being savaged by reviewers over quality issues, and the company has frequently pushed its upcoming CUV back. If that were the only problem, it'd be annoying, but according to Automotive News, Alfa's relaunch is also considerably over budget. Maserati is an entirely different can of worms. Alongside Alfa, it's been stung by a slow Chinese market. Profits are down, according to Automotive News, and it's been widely rumored that the company will delay its next sports car, the Alfieri, until 2018 – it was previously promised for this year. Meanwhile, two of its three other models, the Quattroporte and GranTurismo, are dangerously long in the tooth, and the Levante is still months away from US sales. Can Bigland sort these issues out? Maybe. As Sergio Marchionne said in his official statement, "[Bigland] has an extraordinary record of growing sales and market share in the US and Canada over the last 7 years at FCA, including leading the growth and positioning of the Ram and Dodge brands for part of that time."
Alfieri headed for production based on strong Maserati sales
Fri, 18 Apr 2014Maserati has been on a heck of a product surge recently. After years of subsiding on versions of the previous Quattroporte and the aging GranTurismo, the Modense automaker rolled out the new Quattroporte the year before last, the Ghibli last year, it will introduce the Levante crossover next year and - according to the latest intel - will begin production of the Alfieri sports car the year after that.
The Alfieri concept debuted just last month at the Geneva Motor Show, taking the form of a two-door sports car foreshadowing the brand's new design language. Reception was positive, but it appears that sales of Maserati's existing models is what's giving the Alfieri the green light.
According to Automotive News, citing an interview given by Maserati chief Harald Wester on Bloomberg Television, the brand has been getting 3,500 orders per month, putting it on track to sell 42,000 units this year - nearly three times as much as the 15,400 it sold in 2013. The profits generated off those orders could be enough by themselves to offset the losses which Fiat is expected to record this year based on flagging sales for the Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Jeep brands in Europe.
