1955 Porsche 550 Spyder Replica - Beck Chassis on 2040-cars
Casa Grande, Arizona, United States
Beck replica of 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder, built in 2007 and titled in Arizona as a 1955 Porsche Special Construction. Title allows car to be exempt from emissions inspection and eligible for historic license plates in Arizona. Not sure how that will transfer to other states. Indicated "mileage" on the odometer is actually kilometers and not miles. Less than 2300 km is less than 1430 miles. This vehicle has been seldom driven over the past 7 years.
Original owner. Purchased from Special Edition in 2007, who uses the original Beck design which is the best replica made of this classic car and matches the original DOM tube side frame and chassis design. Beautifully made car. This is not a cheaper copy using a cage frame or VW pan conversion. Fun car to drive and a real eye catcher. Custom built 1985cc VW-based Type-1 engine with 90mm bore x 78mm stroke. All new components, not just simply a rebuilt engine. Dual Weber 44 IDF carbs with electric fuel pump, MSD 6A ignition and 12V alternator. High Flow 044 Heads with Engle W110 camshaft and lightened flywheel. Custom 4-into-1 exhaust with triple resonators for better exhaust flow and lower sound level than the typical 4-into-2-into-1 setup. Design power output approximately 130 hp. Custom built all new 4-speed transaxle with 4.11 final drive. Unique Bahia/Indio Red exterior color with Whiskey Tan interior. Gold colored Porsche badges. Racing mirrors on both sides. Professional appraisal done in 2009 resulted in a $36,950 value. Current list price for a new turn-key version like this one from Special Edition is over $38000. Vehicle has always been stored inside a garage when not driven. Bidders may inspect/drive the car by arrangement during any day of the auction time frame. PayPal may not be used for payment. Failure to send this timely deposit will void that winning bidder's rank; and the vehicle will pass to the next highest bidder above the reserve price. Final payment must be made within 14 days after the end of the auction; and must be made by certified check delivered by certified mail or in person. PayPal may not be used for payment. Failure to complete this timely full payment will void that winning bidder's rank and forfeit any $2000 deposit they made. Ghibli PHEV will launch Maserati's electrification offensive
Mon, Jan 27 2020The hybrid variant of the Maserati Ghibli announced in 2019 is allegedly scheduled to make its public debut during the 2020 Beijing Motor Show. The yet-unnamed model will launch the Italian brand's electrification offensive. Sources familiar with Maserati's plans told Automotive News Europe the Ghibli hybrid will greet the public for the first time when the Beijing show opens its doors on April 21. Going hybrid in China makes sense on several levels. It's an important market for Maserati, the current-generation Ghibli (pictured above) broke cover at the 2013 Shanghai auto show, yet it's a country it has struggled to gain a secure foothold in. Adding electrified options to its range could give its annual Chinese sales a big boost because officials are promoting cars with a plug to curb pollution. There's no word yet on what kind of hybrid technology the Ghibli will receive, though Automotive News Europe speculated it will be a plug-in setup capable of powering the sedan on electricity alone for short distances. Similarly, it's too early to tell if the Italian firm will drop a hybrid powertrain into the Ghibli as we know it and push it to the market, or if it will also make visual, tech, and other mechanical updates to the seven-year-old model. Maserati hasn't commented on the report, and it hasn't announced when the Ghibli hybrid will make its debut; it only pledged to release the model in 2020. Similarly, we don't know if the sedan will be sold in the United States yet. We've reached out to the company for clarification, and we'll update this story if we learn more. Looking ahead, every model Maserati releases will incorporate a degree of electrification. Some will be hybrids, we expect the existing Quattroporte and Levante models will receive gasoline-electric technology, and we know the replacements for the GranTurismo and the GranCabrio due out in 2021 and 2022, respectively, will be the firm's first battery-electric models. There's a new sports car right around the corner, too, and rumors indicate it will be aimed at the Lamborghini Huracan Evo, but we'll need to be patient to find out what's under the camouflage. Stirling Moss-crashed 1956 Maserati 450S to be auctioned in Monaco
Sun, 06 Apr 2014RM Auctions has some very special and expensive Italian sportscars of the 50s and 60s consigned for its auction in Monaco on May 10, but the one that currently carries the highest estimated value at between 4 and 5.5 million euros ($5.5 - $7.5 million) is a 1956 Maserati 450S with some very interesting provenance.
The Maserati started its life as a six-cylinder 350S that Stirling Moss drove in the 1956 Mille Miglia race. Unfortunately, the brakes failed, and it crashed into a tree and nearly into a ravine. Moss and his co-driver weren't injured, but the car was kaputt.
Maserati repaired it and used the chassis as a test mule for its new 5.7-liter V8 racecar called the 450S. It featured an extended wheelbase to fit the larger engine and a new body with a single seat. The racer hit the track again at the hands of Moss and Juan Manuel Fangio in the 1957 Buenos Aires 1000 KM but retired with transmission issues. Later that season, it crashed again at the 1957 Mille Miglia at the hands of driver Jean Behra. After that, the car sat around the workshop until it was sold without an engine in 1965.
Maserati Levante SUV may be built in Italy after all
Thu, 05 Sep 2013In July Fiat halted its investments in Italy, putting on hold plans for the Maserati Levante SUV to be built at the automaker's flagship factory in Turin. But Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne, whose company owns Maserati, met with unions on Wednesday, and he may announce plans to move forward with production of the SUV at the Mirafiori factory if the CEO and the unions reach an agreement, Bloomberg reports.
Marchionne is reportedly about ready to build new cars at Fiat's largest and oldest factory, on the grounds that 5,300 workers accept extended temporary layoffs through most of next year in a slowing European auto market. If unions don't accept the deal, it's not clear whether Fiat would still consider building the Levante at Mirafiori or not.
The Levante, Maserati's first SUV, is based on the Jeep Grand Cherokee platform, and we reported two years ago that it would be built in Detroit next to its Jeep cousin. Obviously those plans have been altered considerably in the intervening period of time.
