Swedish toymaker offers a wooden Maserati collection

In some ways, Maserati had it easier in the 1980s. We don't necessarily mean in a financial sense, or that the cars were especially reliable, but it has to be said both the Biturbo and the third generation Quattroporte are both simple, three-box shapes that are easy to re-create from blocks of solid wood. The Swedish toy company Playsam offers the Alfieri concept, the Levante SUV and open-wheel Maserati race cars in wooden toy car form, and the production portfolio is planned to be enlarged later. Maserati has plenty of classic designs for Playsam to re-create, but our tip is to look into the Biturbo style cars if they want to take a break from all those swoopy shapes you can see in the slideshow above. Maybe they could even offer the Chrysler TC by Maserati with a detachable hardtop: Those round opera windows must be really easy to drill in place. Browsing the online store, the prices for the Playsam's Maserati products are far higher than the toymaker's conventional $70 wooden toy car range, at over $370 apiece. Jay Kay's 1955 Maserati A6G/54 on the docket for Pebble Beach

Gooding & Company has revealed the highlights of its consignments for its Pebble Beach auction during the action-packed Monterey weekend. At the top of the list is the classic 1955 Maserati A6G/54 Frua Berlinetta currently owned by Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay. This Maserati, the show car from the 1955 Paris Auto Salon, features Frau coachwork, won Best in Show at the Salon Privé, and is expected to fetch between $1.5 and 2 million.
No less prestigious is the 1938 Bugatti Type 57C Stelvio convertible that belonged to Prince Louis Napoleon of France, grandson of Emperor Napoleon I and noted Bugatti collector of the time. Supercharged from the factory, the stunning two-tone droptop is projected to sell for $1.3 to 1.6 million.

2017 Maserati Levante wraps Italian style around an SUV

Maserati has a glittering history that dates to 1914. It's based on gorgeous sports cars, decadent sedans, and a rich motorsports heritage. Now comes a new chapter: the first Maserati sport-utility vehicle. Called the Levante, it will debut next month at the Geneva Motor Show and launch in Europe in the spring. The rollout will continue around the world throughout 2016. Maserati says the Levante will have gasoline and diesel engines, though it didn't specify what's under the hood for US-bound models. It will be assembled in Turin, and the company says the first units are already in production. Details are slim as far as the rest of the specs, but Maserati says the Levante will have an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive capability. We also hear that serious off-road performance is one of the Levante's capabilities. The Levante carries many of the brand's styling cues, and the grille, curvy fenders, headlight shape, and vents will fit in with the rest of the brand's products, like the Ghibli and Quattroporte. Maserati joins Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Lamborghini, Porsche, and other traditional sporting brands that have added SUVs to their portfolios in an effort to remain relevant and capitalize on new revenue streams.
