2012 Maserati Gran Turismo Pininfarina on 2040-cars
Fort Myers, Florida, United States
GranTurismo Coupe and Convertible include a 433-horsepower, 4.7L hand-built V8 engine, combined with a 6-speed
automatic transmission. The new GranTurismo MC and Sport Convertible models get more power, from a special version
of the brand's 4.7L V8 engine, making 444 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque. The MC can get to 60 mph in just
4.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 185 mph. All U.S. versions of the GranTurismo come with a 6-speed automatic
transmission with both manual and sport modes, with the latter opening up baffling in the exhaust system for a
louder, more baritone note during acceleration. Sport mode also reduces shift times by about 50 percent. Most
GranTurismo models get an adjustable Skyhook air suspension that combines reasonably good ride comfort with the
firmness and response of a performance car. Instead of the Skyhook adjustable air suspension, the MC gets a
conventional suspension that in effect has firmer springs, as well as a thicker front anti-roll bar. Inside, the MC
also gets larger shift paddles alongside the steering wheelThe MC also gets special front and rear fascias and aero
bodywork (reducing downforce at high speed), wider fenders, and a unique hood. Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, a
sport exhaust, 20-inch wheels with custom-developed Pirelli tires. The GranTurismo Convertible (GranCabrio) has
nearly the same interior arrangement as the GranTurismo Coupe, but with a canvas soft top that can be opened
automatically in just 24 seconds. Convertible models also have the same amount of trunk space whether the top is up
or down--which differs from models with folding-hardtop arrangements. All GranTurismo models come with automatic
climate control, cruise control, keyless entry, real wood trim, heated seats and mirrors, rain-sensing wipers,
headlight washers, power seats (memory for the driver) and a park-assist system, plus Bluetooth hands-free
capability, voice recognition and steering-wheel audio controls in a Bose 11-speaker SurroundStage premium audio
system. Shoppers can choose from a long list of color combinations for the GranTurismo; here are six colors for the
roof alone, with three interior choices and ten different colors available for the Poltrana Frau leather seats.
Carpet and contrasting stitching are offered in six different colors and a perfectly coordinated luggage set is
also available.

Watch Edo Competition pit a Ferrari FXX against a Maserati MC12 Corsa on the 'Ring
Fri, 03 May 2013High-zoot supercar tour organizer Gran Turismo Events held its annual Nürburgring track day last month, and in addition to the amateur punters the gates were opened to two tuned supercars from Edo Competition: A Maserati MC12 Corsa and a Ferrari Enzo ZXX. The ZXX, in case you've forgotten, is the same love child of Edo Competition and Zahir Rana's ZR Exotics that belly flopped into the Atlantic during the 2011 Targa Newfoundland.
We get a trip around the Nordschleife with both cars during a no-doubt quick but not insane lap, on board with driver Patrick Simon in the 755-horsepower MC12 and 'Ring queen Sabine Schmitz following in the 840-hp ZXX.
That should be all the build-up you need when the action's in the video below.
NHTSA, IIHS, and 20 automakers to make auto braking standard by 2022
Thu, Mar 17 2016The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and virtually every automaker in the US domestic market have announced a pact to make automatic emergency braking standard by 2022. Here's the full rundown of companies involved: BMW, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Tesla, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Volvo (not to mention the brands that fall under each automaker's respective umbrella). Like we reported yesterday, AEB will be as ubiquitous in the future as traction and stability control are today. But the thing to note here is that this is not a governmental mandate. It's truly an agreement between automakers and the government, a fact that NHTSA claims will lead to widespread adoption three years sooner than a formal rule. That fact in itself should prevent up to 28,000 crashes and 12,000 injuries. The agreement will come into effect in two waves. For the majority of vehicles on the road – those with gross vehicle weights below 8,500 pounds – AEB will need to be standard equipment by September 1, 2022. Vehicles between 8,501 and 10,000 pounds will have an extra three years to offer AEB. "It's an exciting time for vehicle safety. By proactively making emergency braking systems standard equipment on their vehicles, these 20 automakers will help prevent thousands of crashes and save lives," said Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx said in an official statement. "It's a win for safety and a win for consumers." Read on for the official press release from NHTSA. Automakers making the commitment are Audi, BMW, FCA US LLC, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Maserati, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan, Porsche, Subaru, Tesla Motors Inc., Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo Car USA.
Watch Maserati prep this Quattroporte for Geneva by hammering on its sheetmetal
Tue, 05 Mar 2013There are untold amounts of primping and set up that goes on in the days leading up to an international auto show. Of course, there are exhibits to erect, lights to hang and scripts to rehearse. There are also cars to prep. Usually the latter involves little more than removing finger prints and dusting, but in the case of Maserati the day before the Geneva Motor Show press days, the process apparently includes banging on the sheetmetal of one of your prized showcars like a crazed woodpecker.
We're not sure what caused a surface irregularity in the door skin of this 2014 Quattroporte - perhaps shipping damage - but it was interesting (and mildly painful) to watch, and hear, a show prepper attempt to repair this six-figure sedan with what looks like a jeweler's hammer, high-intensity light and soft cloth.
That'll buff right out.
