I've owned this MG-TD since January 2002, and it has been in covered or indoor storage in Arizona since that time. When I bought the car, it was represented as a "Body-off restoration in 1990 on a California Car". I have no records prior to my purchase other than the previous title, but I believe the current color scheme was probably applied during that restoration. There's no evidence of a different color underneath the yellow or the black paint. A local Sherwin Williams store color matched the yellow, and I have touch-up paint with the mix code. The paint is from 1990, so it has the expected scratches, cracks and aging, mostly in the black paint.
This car has no known damage to the frame or the body, and has virtually no corrosion. In late 2011 the oil pressure relief valve failed, and my son and I removed the engine (numbers matching) for overhaul. Engine machine shop work was done by RNR Performance in Phoenix. The complete engine was inspected and reworked as needed. Included in the work done are hardened valve seats, new cam bearings, head resurfaced, & crankshaft polished. Pistons are 80 over, and rod and main bearings are 20 over. We have NOT re-assembled the engine, but have all the gaskets and rings, etc. for re-assembly. If the buyer wishes, RNR will assemble the engine for $600. Contact information for RNR, and the parts & labor invoices for the engine work are available - please contact me and I'll provide them for you. The transmission was removed with the engine for simplicity, but it needs no work that I'm aware of. The canvas top is the one on the car when I bought it, and it's still in very good condition. The top frame is in excellent condition. The rear window and side curtains (set of 4) are also in very good condition. The inside door panels and the trim panels behind the seats are in very good condition, including the compartment for storing the side curtains. Floor panels (floor boards) are also in very good condition. The car needs new carpets, and the seats should be re-upholstered. The leather is cracked on both seat cushions, with the driver's side being the worst. The seat back leather is not cracked. The seat frames and the back frame are in excellent condition. A local car upholstery craftsman quoted $400 to re-upholster the seats and seat back, using new leather and foam. Work done during my ownership includes: Exchange starter (Feb 2002); Overhaul carbs (Jan 2003); New ignition coil, fuel pump & filter (Sep 2003); New tires (date code 4206); New spark plugs, points, condenser, water pump, wiper blades, water pump & hoses, ignition key switch, change all filters & fluids (engine, diff, trans, brake, coolant), complete lube, adjust brakes, replace battery (Mar 2010). Four tires have less then 500 miles since new. They are Nankang N182 165R15 (date code 4206), and the spare is an unused Dunlop 165 SR15 that was on the car when I bought it. The Lucas fog lamp (SLR/SFT 576) is broken, but they are available used or reproduction (about $86 for the repro). The odometer has not worked since I bought the car, so I'm unsure about the actual mileage. I've listed the mileage shown on the odometer, which is 24,278, but it's not actual miles. The trip odometer does work, though. I have many more photos of the car in it's current condition with the engine removed, including detail photos of the engine and parts removed from the car. Three of the photos here show the car BEFORE we removed the engine, but they're just to show you what it looks like with the engine installed and the radiator and bonnet in place. Contact me and I'll send you more photos. Also available are old repair invoices. If you'd like to see the car in person or have it inspected by an independent mechanic, I'd be happy to show it to you. To see the car, for more photos, or for copies of invoices, etc, please email me at boulais@q.com or call Dick at 602-763-0914. If no answer, please leave a message and I'll return your call. |
