Rare Barn Find!! 1979 Mg Midget Mkiv. Original Unrestored Pedigree! Look!! on 2040-cars
Peoria, Arizona, United States
Here we go! My best "barn find" of the decade!. My wife and I attended a moving sale at a small ranch in the desert just outside of Phoenix. The man and his wife had lived at the ranch nearly 20 years and they decided to sell all, load their Harley in a fifth wheel toy hauler and head north to Colorado. The man had cleaned out his barn of his stashed treasures and we bought quite a few of them. As we were leaving, I couldn't help but to ask the man what was covered under the tarp in front of the barn. "Oh that" he said. He then told me that his ex son-in-laws stepfather had run into a financial bind years ago and was forced to sell his sports car he purchased new in Columbus, Ohio. The car was babied, always garaged, and had never seen rain or snow. He then moved to Indiana and eventually took the car to Arizona to be near family. He fell on hard times many years ago and the current owner purchased the car from him in the hopes of having a "toy" around the house. He added Spyder wheels and tires, a header, custom intake, MSD ignition, and dual Weber carbs. After purchasing his Harley, he lost interest in the car and it was stored in the barn along with all of the original parts including the original wheels, etc. (also included in the auction). Over the years, he would drive it once or twice a month to keep it "exercised" and the car spent the rest of it's days under a cover in the barn. Although covered, the original black convertible top began to deteriorate so he purchased a brand new saddle top to match the interior. He kept telling himself that he would eventually install the new top, clean the car up, and cruise the Arizona highways in his unmolested MG Midget. One day on one of his "exercising" rides, a large truck passed him by throwing up stones and chipped the windshield. The car was parked never to be driven on a major highway again. It was relegated to the short "exercise" rides to get it all warmed up so he could change the oil and keep the fuel fresh. My wife and I wanted the car badly but it just isn't in our budget. So, in exchange for some other items he threw in with our purchases, we agreed to list this 2 owner original car for him. I have looked over all of the paperwork on the car which seems to be complete from the time it was purchased new. As far as I can tell, the paint is still decent (British Racing Green) and should come back with a little elbow grease and buffing (there are a few small chips in the ORIGINAL paint). There is some surface rust on the components of the undercarriage but nothing that can't be cleaned up. You will of course have to replace the top with the included new one and have the chip fixed in the windshield. The car runs awesome the way it is but if you would like it to be 100% original, those parts will also be included with the car. Overall, with a little bit of clean-up and about a weekend of labor, you will end up with a beautiful, un-restored version of the last year that these neat little sports cars were produced. I am posting as many pictures as I can right now. Please excuse the quality. I only had my cell available to take the pics as I never expected to find such a rare original car. I do have to make yet another trip out there with my trailer to pick up some additional items we bought and I will take my camera to take some nicer, detailed pics. In the meantime, if you would like any particular pictures or if you have any questions about the car, please message me so I can take the pics and ask the questions when I visit the man again. I hope someone will purchase this car to bring it back to it's glory. Trust me, if it was in Ginny's and my budget to do so, this car would never even be listed! Of course you can always call me at 4802678512 or 4802575136. Thanks for looking at our auction. Good luck and take care! Corky & Ginny |
