For Sale is a 1968 MGB-GT project. There is a 1968 BGT with wire wheels that body is ready to paint with the exception of some minor repair to the aluminum hood and more sanding that needs to be done to the top. The interior is in fair condition. The dash board looks new but there is a problem that looks like poor installation where it meets the body. There is a dash cap that came with the parts car and with a little creativity, this can be well hidden. The engine that goes with this car is out of the car and on an engine stand. From the serial number, it appears to have come out of a 1972 MGB. It has the standard dual SU carbs and original air cleaners. The engine did start and run when it was taken out of the car. The engine bay is stripped and ready to paint. The VIN was verified against the title by NCDMV and title issued. There is also a 1971 BGT that I bought for parts that comes with the project. The parts car has things that the 68 needed such as master cylinders, etc. The engine that is in this car is from a 1976 and has a single weber carb. The engine in that car runs fine, transmission, clutch, etc are good. I drove it home when I bought it. There is no title to this car. One could possibly be obtained. I just didn't bother with it because I was going to use it for parts. This car has steel wheels. The plus sides of this, you get two engines, an aluminum hood and enough parts to put one car back together and have some left over. The bumpers for both cars are there, but once the 68 is painted, new bumpers would go a long way.
The 68 had been repainted a couple of times when I got it and there was some rust, although relatively minor. Both front doglegs were replaced and any evidence of rust behind them was sandblasted, treated and protective coated prior to reinstalling the new doglegs. There was some minor rust in the rocker panels and bondo was used to repair them. There was minor rust in the bottom of the doors. Again they were sandblasted treated an bondo was used to repair. There was a lot of time spent getting the fender seams to look nice. The car is all but ready to paint and start putting back together. I had taken it to the body shop to finish up the body work I didn't feel I could do right and paint. They didn't get around to it before I bought another project and at this point have more projects than time or room.
It is a good project that is well underway. Most of the not so fun stuff has been done. Again it is all but ready to paint and start putting back together. Pretty much all downhill from here.
