This is a very special 1971 MGB which has received many upgrades (done professionally) to render it an excellent all-round sports machine! The improvements are as follows: 5-speed Nissan transmission, Nissan rear disc brakes, rear panhard bar, gas tube shocks, 3/4" front anti-roll bar, Fuel Safe fuel cell, integrated roll cage, Jamex bucket seats, Electromotive ignition, Accusump oil system, custom aluminum dash housing Autometer guages. Additionally, Lilves flares have been incorporated, which allow room for wheels even larger than the nice 15x6 Superlites currently fitted.
Engine: MGB 1800cc, professionally rebuilt less than 2,000 miles ago. Rebuild included new pistons, rings, bearings, oil pump, cam, lifters, valves, etc. All fuel and oil hoses are steel braided. The Weber 45 DCOE has been dyno-tuned to run perfectly with the APT V12 camshaft - accelerates smoothly from idle to 6,000rpm. The car starts and runs perfectly; no "flat spots!" The radiator is a recent Ron Davis aluminum model, and allows the car to operate fine even at 100+ degrees.
There is no rust or any structural damage, though the floor boards were replaced before my ownership. The doors open and close as they should, panel alignment is good. The paint is a gorgeous Lotus British Racing Green, which contrasts superbly with the removable factory hardtop, which is restored in Old English White.
This a great looking and driving MGB, and it is ready to be enjoyed by its next owner. On the road, the vehicle responds as a proper sports car should; the steering is direct and communicative, the brakes are strong and sure, and the engine answers your right foot instantly with a satisfying growl! The Nissan 280Z 5-speed is a joy to operate, as the clutch is light and the shifter easy to move from gate to gate. The overdrive makes highway cruising entirely possible, with plenty of power held in reserve thanks to the nicely-tuned motor.
The paint does have some very minor flaws, hardly noticable for anyone not entering a concours show. All in all, it would be very difficult to find and MGB this nice, and it would be impossible to duplicate this car for double the buy-it-now price.
I have a clear California title in my name along with exhaustive records dating back to 1999, when the car received an extensive restoration.
