1968 Mgb Roadster Great Running Classic Vintage Convertible Sports Car on 2040-cars
Stratford, Connecticut, United States
MGB roadster, 1968 And unusually clean, excellent running, rust free example Last owner put a lot of effort into restoring this car…..floors, sills, jacking points, trunk floor, etc. are all in excellent condition. Even painted and detailed. Runs perfectly, 65-70 psi oil pressure when warm, 160-170 psi compression in every cylinder, zero smoke cold or hot, engine bay detail as for show (and seems to be original…note the cloth covered wiring harness, virtually like new…), new alternator, excellent 4 speed all synchromesh transmission. Interior is all new, even the seat padding. Dash is excellent, all gauges and electrics work, an expensive aftermarket wood steering wheel, new convertible top, tonneau, wire wheels, a beautiful, redone MGB ready for Spring cruising. What makes 1968s so special in the MGB hierarchy, is that as the earliest Mk II, they are a combination of most of the best of the earlier cars (high compression engine, lack of side light, low back seats, etc.) and much of the best of the later cars (the stronger all synchromesh Mk II trans, better back axle, alternator, dual circuit brakes, controls on the stalks). In many ways, an excellent compromise. This car is 46 years old but still has contemporary performance. Disc brakes, 100+ mph top speed, easy cruising at 80+ mph, great ride, handling, steering, and wonderful classic ‘feel.’ A show car? Hardly BUT I would not have any qualms about entering it in a ‘local show’ what with its beautifully detailed interior, dash, engine bay, trunk, new chrome, etc. Can’t say the paint is ‘Pebble Beach concours’ quality but certainly more than adequate for normal road use. And a great color combination. This car offers the complete package. Certainly a classic sports car. Not every expensive. Contemporary use and performance, FUN to drive, easy to service and maintain, parts are readily available and generally very inexpensive….and…its red with wire wheels. Parts are inexpensive and widely available…a rebuilt alternator is $139, a new front chrome bumper is $129, a dual master cylinder $99. And in most of the country, these parts can be had in one or two days. Owning and enjoying an MGB is really effortless.
