1966 Mgbgt Matching Numbers Project on 2040-cars
Dade City, Florida, United States
Offered here is a highly desirable
early steel dash 1966 MGBGT restoration project. It’s the perfect opportunity to restore an
early GT without having to deal with 48-years of grime, grease, rust, and all
the work and expense associated therewith.
As detailed below, between the PO and myself, over $11,500 has been
spent on the project thus far and it is offered here with a reserve set at less
than one half that cost. I purchased this project
earlier this year with the intent of completing the restoration started by the
previous owner (PO) but, for personal reasons I am unable to complete the
project. The tub was media blasted and
primed before receiving new floor pans and a few other (obvious in the photos)
sheet metal components. There remains
some minor body work, but all the hard and costly body work has already been completed.
The remaining body work should be easily
accomplished by an amateur enthusiast. The
tub includes new front wings (fenders).

(on car) Spare front sub-frame Spare front uprights Steering column Front valance Fuel tank Etc. The list of parts goes on and
on. According to the PO “car is complete”. While I have not inventoried every single
part I will say it looks to be all there.
Having said that, as with any project, the buyer should anticipate the
need to purchase or recondition incidental parts. According to actual receipts received from
the PO, he spent $900 having the tub media blasted and primed. He spent another $1,350 purchasing and having
floor pans and other sheet metal installed.
The engine rebuild cost $3,062.44 and the transmission rebuild was
another $1,171.22. He purchased two
cars to begin the project; a ’66 MGBGT and a ’67 MGBGT, for a total of
$1,300.00. The aforementioned
expenditures total $7,783.66, plus
the over $3,200 the PO and I have collectively spent on replacement parts. So, over $11,500 has been invested in the project
thus far. The PO obtained a British
Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate for the ’66. The car/chassis number G-HD3-L/73239, motor
number 18GB-U-H/28015 and gearbox number 5384 all match the certificate. The project
was sold to me based on a bill of sale since the State of Alabama does not
issue titles for older cars. The project
is located in Dade City, FL about 40-miles north of Tampa. It cannot realistically be shipped and
therefore must be picked up at the seller’s location in the Dade City area by
the buyer at the buyer’s expense. All
documentation including receipts and the Heritage Certificate will go with the
project. The project (1966 MGB GT) is
sold as-is-where-is with no warranty or option for refund. Link to more than 50 photographs of the project: https://www.dropbox.com/s/7d9y7xd0ozbd418/66BGT.zip If you have questions
concerning this offer please send me a message through eBay’s “Ask seller a
question” and I will get back to you ASAP.

offer. On Nov-25-13 at 14:31:53 PST, seller added the following information: I have been advised Drop Box link is not working. If someone exercises the buy it now option, I will include this kit for $1,500.00. The kit includes everything, including aluminum billet calipers, pads, stainless braided lines, rotors, a-arms, bushings, springs, shocks and all necessary hardware. The cost new from the UK is well in excess of $2,300 including shipping. |
