1966 Mgb - Rebuilt Motor,rust-free, Chrome Bumpers, New Interior/top, Documents on 2040-cars
Villa Rica, Georgia, United States
Thank you for your interest in my auction. I bought this 1966 MGB just over a year ago. It had been owned by a local family until the previous owner bought it, drove it, and ultimately parked it in his garage where it sat, unused, for several years. The car came with excellent documentation confirming its mileage of 73,000 miles, the work done on it, and its ownership history. It's the right MGB to have - 5 main bearing motor, chrome bumpers, no pollution control devices.
She was straight, unmolested, original, and completely rust-free except for the floors. The driver's side had surface rust which was removed and treated with Eastwood Rust Encapsulator. It was deemed unnecessary to replace it. The passenger side floor was cut out, and a new steel floor was welded in. The fuel system was very dirty - the old gas had gone bad and left a residue so the fuel tank, fuel sender, fuel filter, and fuel pump were all replaced with new. The clutch hydraulics were also shot, so the clutch master cylinder, hose, and slave cylinder were replaced with new. All the fluids were drained and replaced, the carburetors were cleaned and rebuilt as needed, and a new water pump, radiator hoses, oil filter, and fan belt were installed. New points, distributor cap, condenser, spark plugs, and a battery were installed. Meanwhile, the rest of the car was cleaned, and the seats were rebuilt and recovered. New carpeting was installed and the door seals were replaced with new. The wire wheels were repainted, and a new hood liner was installed. The rear brake cylinders and pads were replaced along with all the brake hoses. The previous owner had replaced the exhaust system with new, and it still had stickers on it.
When the time came to get her on the road, the car started and drove, but I soon found that it was running rough. A compression check revealed the #1 cylinder was dead. The head was removed, taken to a machine shop and resurfaced. Upon reassembly, it was determined that there was a defect (depression) on the top of the block between the #1 and #2 cylinders. The decision was made to get a brand-new, professionally rebuilt, motor. It was installed, along with a resurfaced flywheel and complete new clutch assembly. The specifications are described below. The oil pressure, temperature, and compression are spot on. It's still running on her break-in oil.
Thanks to hardened valve seats, it runs on unleaded gas with no problems. It starts immediately on the first crank every time, and she runs flawlessly and with great power. The clutch is smooth and works perfectly as does the gearbox. The motor is warranted by the builder for 2 years, and the warranty will transfer (with about 18 months left) to the high bidder.
Having the car running well, it was decided to replace the windshield (which had scratches from wiper blades) and to replace the original brittle (but surprisingly nice) soft top. There are things that, for one reason or another, I did not get to. I left the paint as is. It's an old, inexpensive job with its share of minor blemishes, little scratches, a ding or two, swirl marks, and runs, but from 5' away, she looks just fine to me. The bumpers are undented, but they have some pitting. The radio makes a noise when you turn it on, but it doesn't do more. I haven't even looked at it. The handbrake doesn't seem to work. I suspect an adjustment is needed. I haven't tried the heater, but it appears fine and intact.
I appreciate that you
are buying a 48 year old British sports car, maybe sight unseen. I've tried to give a full description but
undoubtedly probably left something out.
Please feel free to inspect the car or ask questions. In Thank you and happy bidding.
