1963 MGB that I recently rescued from slumber. This was put to sleep in late 2006 and tucked away. I bought it a few weeks ago thinking I wanted a pull handle car. Of course the deal was I would have to part with one of my other cars, but I have really grown fond of (the idea of one day) driving my 67... Anyway, this must go..
I bought it from the 2nd SF Bay Area owner since new. Garaged most of it's life. I brought it home and set to work.
You really see the car as I found it. All I did was wipe down the exterior. The rest is from being parked in a garage for almost 7 years.
Fires right up and settles to a smooth idle almost immediately. I drove it in the late afternoon here when the temp was well over 100 degrees F and it did not over heat. Paint is still in presentable condition. With a detail and waxing it should sparkle!. No weird noises from the engine, just the occasional
squeal from the 3 synchro transmission when the clutch is in. The car rides well and seems to have been regularly taken care of. There is evidence of recent suspension work in the rear as the springs look almost new. Other bits and pieces around the car show it was regularly maintained. This has
the correct 3 main engine with gear drive tachometer. The data plate was lost when the engine was rebuilt in the 80's. The interior is fair, but worn in places. I don't think the carpet kit was of the highest quality. The original aluminum bonnet was damaged by something falling on it when the car was
garaged during an earthquake and was replaced with a fiberglass unit. Not to my taste, but it looks fine on the car. There are scratches and small paint chips here and there, but no major damage. In fact I can not find evidence of any collision damage to the front or rear. Both look normal for these
cars. In the trunk area you can see where the over-rider was pushed into the body, all too common on chrome bumper cars. The oil pressure gauge does not show oil pressure, but I removed the rocker cover and there is definitely oil pressure as the rockers are not noisy and there is oil dripping in
a steady stream from rocker shaft. There is a new generator in the car, although the charging system is down. I am going to look into this, should be an easy fix. I put a new battery in the car as well. There are 2 areas where I saw rust. Passenger door, very front lower corner, about an inch and
half back and toward the top in a triangle shape. The other is the driver side dog leg is starting to bubble. Otherwise the only thing I saw was a patch on the driver floor about 2 inches by 5 inches, otherwise both floors are solid. As with all cars that sit, the hydraulics will be compromised. The
clutch works as it should, it may let out a little slow, if I use my imagination and powers of paranoia. The brakes work, but it wouldn't hurt to freshen up the pads in the front and shoes in the rear. So far I don't see any signs of hydraulic fluid leakage. The Lights, heater blower motor, wipers and
horn work. The brake lights work as well. The turn signals need some attention as I could not get them to function. The tach and speedo worked on my test drive just fine. Even the trip odometer worked. The license plate lights were not working. There is an AM/FM cassette radio installed just
above the drivers left knee that is isolated and makes static-y noises. I say isolated because the car is still positive ground. I did get a station to come in and the speaker sound was not really that bad, I prefer listening to the engine, but that's me. Also not pictured, but included are the air filters,
original jack, and a spare wire wheel. I will look to see if I can find a wire wheel hold down as that is missing. Also a tonneau cover that needs the zippers repaired. Comes with the original California Black and Yellow 6 digit license plates registered to the car since new. I think that if you are
looking for a car to drive for a while and tinker with, this would be perfect. If you want to totally restore an early car, always start with the most sound, complete car you can. It will save money down the road in the body shop (do the math). If you have any questions or wish to see pictures of other
areas of the car email me through ebay. Include your phone number if you would like me to call you.
If you want to make a "buy it now" offer, feel free to. The worst that can happen is I will say no.
I will be going to Huntington Beach CA on the 24th for a few days. If you are in the area and we make a deal, I can bring it down on my trailer for a nominal fee. I can also deliver to any of the shipping companies in the SF Bay Area for .$350 LA $650
I will have a clear CA title in my name.
On Jul-18-13 at 19:14:25 PDT, seller added the following information:I forgot to add, that also included, but not pictured is the stow away soft top frame and the soft top which is in usable condition, but the windows, of course, are cloudy.
