Early 1957 Mga - 59,778 Original Miles And Completely 100% Rust Free on 2040-cars
Huntington, New York, United States
Up for auction is my early 1957 MGA roadster with only 59,778 original miles since new. This solid wheel car was built in January 1957 and is one of the first 25,000 cars built in the first year and a half of MGA production (chassis # HDR /25733, Engine # BP15GB/15891). I purchased this car from an estate sale in New Jersey owned by an elderly gentleman who owned the car since the late 1960’s. It was always garaged and regularly maintained and used as a weekend driver. He actually showed the car in Watkins Glen NY in 1958 and 1959 and have the plaques on the heater motor - very cool. The MGA retains its original 1488cc engine and 4 speed gearbox. It runs and drives great and is in amazingly rust free condition. The car comes with its original nearly complete tool kit, spare tire, jack, lug wrench and workshop manual. Overall Condition: The car is registered in New York State, recently passed its annual New York State safety inspection and garaged in Huntington, New York. The body panels are straight and rust free along with its solid and rust free frame. The car starts right up and runs strong all day long and drives like a dream. It is very smooth with great acceleration and excellent brakes. It was repainted its original Old English White color some years ago and the paint is in very good condition. The MGA has a new complete interior, new Robbins convertible top and Hartz tonneau cover, new carpet set and rubber mats. I have the original steering wheel that goes with the car. Mechanicals: The MGA runs and drives great. You turn the key, hear the fuel pump tick and pull the choke out three clicks and the engine starts right up everytime. It runs very strong and does not smoke or have any oil leaks. Once the engine warms up after a couple of minutes you push in the choke in and off you go. Engine idles around 800 rpms. Engine acceleration is smooth and sounds great. Oil pressure is strong at 60 psi and revs quickly to 6000 rpms without hesitation. Engine and gearbox are original to the car (engine # BP15GB/15891). Radiator and engine have been flushed and all hoses replaced along with a new water pump and belt. Engine runs cool with no overheating at all…. Valve adjustment was completed and the engine runs silky smooth. The battery is new and charging system works. The gearbox is the factory original 4 speed unit and all four gears and reverse work perfect without any noises or clunks. Shocks, steering, suspension and brakes are all in very good working order, needing nothing. Clutch feels perfect. All of the following was serviced to get the car on the road drivable and roadworthy: The following are NEW parts:
Body: The car was painted sometime in its history and is in very good condition. It has a deep shine and was a decent quality repaint. All body panels are original to the car. The doors gaps are tight, engine bonnet and deck lid are all 100% rust free, solid and as straight as an arrow. The door jams are rust free, wooden floors are solid and in good condition, inner and outer sills, wheel wells and frame are all rust free. The underneath looks like it’s a 10 year old car - unbelievably rust free!!!. Glass is in good condition; rubber under windshield is good and bumpers and front grill are brand new. Interior: The dash is 100% original with working gauges, button and knobs. Carpets are new and professionally installed. Seat covers are new with new cushions and seat belts. The steering wheel is a $300 Cherry wood Derrington wheel made in England and is a nice upgrade if you enjoy driving the car. The original steering wheel has been retained for originality. The car is sold “AS IS” with no expressed or implied warrantee or guarantees. I am not a broker or a dealer so this is a private sale that is final. It is sold “WHERE IS” in Huntington, New York and if transported will be the cost of the buyer. I have set a reasonable reserve on the car. Hagerty Insurance Co has valued my MGA at $25,000. MGA’s are getting harder to find in unrestored rust free condition like this car and are getting very sought after by collectors and car enthusiasts. If you are a serious buyer and have any questions please call me at 631-339-3349 or contact me through E-Bay email by asking a question. I will sell to Europe/ worldwide and to anyone who appreciates this car for what it is. I have the right to end this auction early since I will advertise on other venues. I will request a $500 deposit within 48 hours and the balance shortly thereafter and will hold the car for you until payment and transportation has been made. Thanks for your interest. Dave. |
