1969 Lotus Elan Plus 2 Coupe

NO RESERVE AUCTION

PLEASE LOOK AT THE 150+ DETAILED PICTURES SCROLLING AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS AUCTION FOR DETAILS.

This 1969 Lotus Elan S2 Coupe was purchased by a local Nashville Tennessee Vintage Racer and machine shop owner in 1991 from a fellow Vintage Racer from Atlanta Georgia. Shortly after his purchase of the car he disassembled the car for an allover repaint changing the color from the original yellow to British Racing Green. As is typically the case with “Body Shop Jail” the car sat at the body shop for almost 2 years before the paint job was completed and returned to the owner. By that time his interest in this car had lessened as he was involved with work on several of his other cars. For that reason this car was put on the “Way Back” burner and parked in storage since that time.

The body on the car is in excellent condition with NO evidence of any accident damage. The new 20+ years ago paint job was probably nice back then however it now is average at best. The hood and trunk-lid are both in excellent condition. The original doors are very nice and will fit the car properly when properly adjusted. The power window motors and side glass are all complete and still in the doors along with the wiring. The unique and hard to find chrome window frames are in excellent condition. The door handles are missing. The front windshield is excellent along with an excellent original rear back glass. The front wiper arms are missing. The front headlights are complete and have the correct hideaway headlight actuators with the car. The front parking lights and lens are complete along with the original taillights. The front and rear bumpers are missing and not with the car. All the original weather-stripping is with the car and in poor condition. There is a bag with some new weather-stripping included with the car.

Mechanically this car is MISSING THE ORIGINAL ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION! That’s right NO ENGINE AND NO TRANSMISSION! The original drive shaft and complete suspension is still in the car. The original engine and transmission now reside in a Vintage Race car owned by another person. The previous owner installed them in one of his Vintage Race cars and ultimately sold that car to another racer. The chassis under the car is the original chassis with the correct VIN number stamped in the chassis. The chassis is in excellent condition and is complete with all suspension components, brakes, six (6) original Lotus knock-off wheels and more. The original VIN tag is on the car along with the original DATA Tag on the inner fender. The power brake booster is off the car but is included with the car. This car was equipped with Air Conditioning. The A/C unit, some of the hoses, drier and A/C compressor are included with the car.

The interior on the car is mostly complete however there are still missing parts. The original steering wheel is in excellent condition. The original seats and seat covers are in nice condition. I only have one door panel (driver’s side). The dash is totally complete with the original Speedometer, Tachometer and all the original switches and controls. The original wood dash is in nice condition. The center console is in nice condition. The rear seats are in nice condition. The rear sail panel and original rear package tray are included with the car. I have all the original carpet for the car, the side trim for the console and front floor. The original white headliner is still in the car.

Also included will be an original Lotus Elan assembly manual and the supposedly original tool set provided with the car when new.

This car is MISSING PARTS AND IS NOT COMPLETE. I have taken VERY DETAILED PICTURES OF ALL THE PARTS that go with the car. IF a part is not bolted on the car as shown in pictures OR not shown in the detailed pictures of parts I have included I DO NOT HAVE THAT PART!

Rather than play “20 questions” concerning what parts are here and what parts are missing PLEASE LOOK CAREFULLY AT THE DETAILED PICTURES to determine what is there and what is missing. If you are looking at this car you probably are a Lotus enthusiast and already know what you are looking at. If you have questions concerning the CONDITION OF ITEMS or the PROVENANCE of this Lotus Elan Plus 2 please call me anytime at 615 347 7459 to discuss.

Lotus Type 132 electric crossover leaked in patent images

Tue, Mar 8 2022

Lotus is preparing to merge into the mainstream by releasing an electric crossover called Type 132. While we won't see the model in the metal until late in March 2022, a series of images leaked out of a patent office have prematurely revealed its exterior design. Discovered by Motor1, the renderings appeared on the website for the Australian patent and trademark office, IP Australia. They're attributed to Wuhan Lotus Cars Co., which is the new division in charge of developing the company's so-called "premium lifestyle" models. What immediately stands out is that the Type 132 — a code-name that most likely won't appear on the production model — looks nothing like the current or past members of the Lotus range; it's not merely a reshaped Emira or a stretched Elise on silts. Its unusual proportions match what we've seen in earlier spy shots, and distinctive styling cues like the thin light bar that stretches across the hatch also appeared in official preview images released by Lotus. Fully electric, the Type 132 is characterized by a short front end fitted with angular headlights, a relatively long wheelbase, and a roof line that's low and rakish; it certainly tilts more towards sport than towards utility. At first glance, the overall design looks less pure than what we're used to seeing from Lotus, though we'll need to wait until the model makes its official debut to tell for sure. What's certain is that the people-hauler depicted in these images is completely different than the one that leaked out of a patent office in China in October 2017. Either what we saw nearly five years ago was something else entirely, or the British firm sent its design team back to the drawing board. We spot several interesting details in the patent images. Look closely, and you'll notice that the Type 132 is not fitted with conventional door mirrors; it features door-mounted cameras, like certain Audi models. And, check out that pod on the roof. While it's almost shaped like an air vent, this is not a car designed for the World Rally Championship. One possibility is that it's there to house the various sensors required to power a semi-autonomous driving system. Lotus is controlled by Geely, which also owns Volvo and Polestar, so it has access to a tremendous amount of technology. Lotus will introduce the Type 132 online on March 29, 2022, and production will begin shortly after in China.

Lotus bids farewell to the Elise and the Exige with Final Edition models

Mon, Feb 8 2021

Lotus will put the Elise, the Exige, and the Evora out to pasture later in 2021 to make room for a new model that internally is being called Type 131. Before it embarks on this major lineup overhaul, the firm will send off the Elise and the Exige — two of its best-known and longest-running models — with a limited Final Edition. Fittingly, the Final Edition models represent the ultimate evolution of the Elise and the Exige, nameplates released 25 and 21 years ago, respectively. Lotus added power and, somewhat surprisingly, equipment without straying from the famous "light is right" philosophy that shaped both cars. Collectors have two variants of the Elise (Sport 240 and Cup 250) and three of the Exige (Sport 390, Sport 420, and Cup 430) to choose from. Stepping inside either Final Edition version of the Elise reveals a thin-film transistor (TFT) instrument cluster that can be configured with regular gauges or a racecar-like display, depending on whether motorists plan to hit the road or the track. Lotus also redesigned the steering wheel to give taller drivers more space. New upholstery and stitching patterns round out the major updates, and every Final Edition wears a specific metal plaque. Outside, the changes include new additions to the palette, including Azure Blue, which was one of the launch colors when the Elise was presented to the press in 1996. Racing Green, the hue worn by the model when it made its global debut at the 1995 edition of the Frankfurt auto show, makes a comeback as well. If 2,032 pounds is too heavy, Lotus offers optional parts (like carbon fiber panels) that shed 53 pounds. Power for the Elise still comes from a supercharged, 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine mounted directly behind the passenger compartment. It delivers 240 horsepower (23 more than stock) and 180 pound-feet of torque, figures that give the roadster a 4.1-second zero-to-60-mph time. Selecting the Cup model brings a full body kit that generates 145 pounds of downforce at 100 mph and 341 pounds at the Elise's 154-mph top speed. Like the Elise, the Exige range receives Final Edition-specific paint colors, decals, and other exterior accents. Inside, it's a similar story: Lotus added a TFT screen and a new steering wheel, among other updated parts. Instead of a four-cylinder, the Exige packs a meaner punch thanks to a supercharged, 3.5-liter V6 tuned to put 397 horsepower (a 47-horse increase) and 310 pound-feet of torque under the driver's right foot.

Elise Time Attack could be most extreme Lotus yet

Mon, 07 Jul 2014

The Lotus Elise has given birth to some seriously fast and varied machinery. Aside from Lotus' own models like the Exige, 2-Eleven, 340R and Europa, electric vehicles like the Tesla Roadster, not to mention the never-released Dodge Circuit and Detroit Electric SP:01, are all based on the Elise's platform. As were/are the Melkus RS 2000, the Opel Speedster/Vauxhall VX220 and the Hennessey Venom GT. But this could be the most extreme use of the lightweight chassis yet.
This Series 1 Elise has been built by one performance-obsessed Brit with a single purpose: to compete in the UK's Time Attack championship. For those unfamiliar, Time Attack is something like a rally or a hillclimb event, only it takes place on a racing circuit. Each vehicle goes out on the track by itself and sets the best time it can, without needing to worry about other competitors until the finish line is crossed and it's the next racer's turn. That's what drove Lee to modify his Lotus so thoroughly, with more wings, diffusers, flaps and carbon fiber than a Boeing factory. Check it out in the video below.
