This 1969 Lotus Elan S2 Coupe was purchased by a local Nashville Tennessee Vintage Racer and machine shop owner in 1991 from a fellow Vintage Racer from Atlanta Georgia. Shortly after his purchase of the car he disassembled the car for an allover repaint changing the color from the original yellow to British Racing Green. As is typically the case with “Body Shop Jail” the car sat at the body shop for almost 2 years before the paint job was completed and returned to the owner. By that time his interest in this car had lessened as he was involved with work on several of his other cars. For that reason this car was put on the “Way Back” burner and parked in storage since that time. The body on the car is in excellent condition with NO evidence of any accident damage. The new 20+ years ago paint job was probably nice back then however it now is average at best. The hood and trunk-lid are both in excellent condition. The original doors are very nice and will fit the car properly when properly adjusted. The power window motors and side glass are all complete and still in the doors along with the wiring. The unique and hard to find chrome window frames are in excellent condition. The door handles are missing. The front windshield is excellent along with an excellent original rear back glass. The front wiper arms are missing. The front headlights are complete and have the correct hideaway headlight actuators with the car. The front parking lights and lens are complete along with the original taillights. The front and rear bumpers are missing and not with the car. All the original weather-stripping is with the car and in poor condition. There is a bag with some new weather-stripping included with the car. Mechanically this car is MISSING THE ORIGINAL ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION! That’s right NO ENGINE AND NO TRANSMISSION! The original drive shaft and complete suspension is still in the car. The original engine and transmission now reside in a Vintage Race car owned by another person. The previous owner installed them in one of his Vintage Race cars and ultimately sold that car to another racer. The chassis under the car is the original chassis with the correct VIN number stamped in the chassis. The chassis is in excellent condition and is complete with all suspension components, brakes, six (6) original Lotus knock-off wheels and more. The original VIN tag is on the car along with the original DATA Tag on the inner fender. The power brake booster is off the car but is included with the car. This car was equipped with Air Conditioning. The A/C unit, some of the hoses, drier and A/C compressor are included with the car. The interior on the car is mostly complete however there are still missing parts. The original steering wheel is in excellent condition. The original seats and seat covers are in nice condition. I only have one door panel (driver’s side). The dash is totally complete with the original Speedometer, Tachometer and all the original switches and controls. The original wood dash is in nice condition. The center console is in nice condition. The rear seats are in nice condition. The rear sail panel and original rear package tray are included with the car. I have all the original carpet for the car, the side trim for the console and front floor. The original white headliner is still in the car. Also included will be an original Lotus Elan assembly manual and the supposedly original tool set provided with the car when new. This car is MISSING PARTS AND IS NOT COMPLETE. I have taken VERY DETAILED PICTURES OF ALL THE PARTS that go with the car. Lotus Elise Cup 260 celebrates the automaker's 70th anniversary
Fri, Oct 20 2017Lotus rides the special edition train nearly as often as Jeep. When you only sell a few models, you need to make the most of what you have. Today, Lotus announced a new very-limited-edition variant, the Elise Cup 260. Just 30 examples will be built and, based on pricing, it doesn't look like it will be coming to America. Hey, the cars are likely all spoken for already. The Elise Cup 260 builds on the Cup 250 and takes influence from the Lotus Evora GT430 and Exige Cup 380. Lotus says this car is even lighter than the already pint-sized Cup 250. Downforce is the name of the game with the Cup 260. The car makes 397 pounds of downforce at 151 mph (44 percent better than the Cup 250), helping the car maneuver around a circuit with copious amounts of traction. The key components here are louvered front fenders, a carbon fiber front splitter and a carbon fiber rear wing that wouldn't look out of place on an FIA-spec GT car. All of the lightweight performance options from the Cup 250 are standard equipment on the Cup 260. The sill covers, roll hoop cover, front access panel and engine cover are all made of carbon fiber. It also uses a polycarbonate backlight glass to save more weight. The Cup 260 has two-piece rotors and two-way adjustable Nitron dampers at all four corners. Strangely, the Elise uses AP Racing calipers up front and a set of Brembo clamps out back. The Elise Cup 260 is powered by a supercharged 1.8-liter inline four making 250 horsepower and 188 pound feet of torque. In the right hands, the Lotus will hit 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds. Top speed is listed as 151 mph. Lotus' Hethel track is the true benchmark of any car to wear the green and yellow badge. On it, the Cup 260 is 2.5 seconds faster than the Cup 250. The exterior has been done up in gold and features a couple of wreaths meant to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Lotus' first car. The car comes standard with Alcantara upholstery, but if it were our money we'd spring for either the yellow or red Tartan trim pack. As befitting any Lotus, weight savings was first and foremost. Things like air conditioning, carpeting and sound deadening material are all optional extras. Pricing has only been announced for Europe, but the UK base price converts to roughly $77,800. Not cheap, but few if any cars provide the pure, unadulterated driving experience of a Lotus. Related Video:

Tue, Mar 18 2014The scene is the front straight of the Albert Park Circuit at the Australian Formula One Grand Prix, and what you see on track on either side of the gentleman wearing the orange hat is a Mercedes AMG Petronas being followed by a Lotus. The first major clue, as should be obvious by the nose of the Mercedes, is that this scene was captured last year. The other major clue in the photo is the gentleman in the orange hat: he's wearing earmuffs to silence the noise. We count at least four people wearing them, and that's before the camera pans. Some F1 fans have been pleased with the sound of the new 1.6-liter V6 engines, but it appears that the majority are not; the organizers of the Australian Grand Prix are threatening to sue because of a "lack of sexiness," and F1 impresario Bernie Ecclestone has declared he was "horrified by the lack of [noise]." European commission investigating F1 finances and anti-competitive accusations
Fri, Jan 9 2015The Kingdom of Formula One reminds us of renaissance Florence - ruled by a singular chieftan behind a mask of representative involvement, rife with spectacularly convoluted machinations, awash in innovations that help define our world and far-flung, vindictive misery. If we found out Bernie Ecclestone's real last name was de Medici, well, it would explain a lot. Now after a bit of back-and-forth, the European Commission (EC) has taken aim at the kingdom, investigating whether F1 is anti-competitive and if the FIA has abused its antitrust agreement. The reason for EC scrutiny is that a British member of the European Parliament who represents an area in southwest England, Anneliese Dodds, has fielded complaints from engineering companies in her constituency that recent moves in F1 have put them out of business. She wrote to the EC to question why the FIA now has a stake in F1 when it signed an agreement in 2001 to be solely a governing body and abdicate any stakeholding in the sport. She also questioned the F1 Strategy Group, a group of the six top teams in F1 that makes decisions about the direction of the sport; she says that the Strategy Group not only appears to be a case of the F1 shirking its rule-making duty, it has resulted in unfair treatment of the small teams that aren't in the group. Dodds has a bit of a point. In 2001, the FIA sold F1's commercial rights to Ecclestone for 100 years for a sum of $313.7 million. That was done to placate European regulators who insisted that "the role of FIA will be limited to that of a sports regulator, with no commercial conflicts of interest." Although the rights are ultimately owned by the FIA and bring in a $10M fee every year from Formula One, those rights bring in $1.6 billion each year to Formula One Management (FOM), the company that owns F1. When Ecclestone was trying to get the new Concorde Agreement signed in 2013 that governs the running of the sport, the FIA wouldn't sign, saying it wanted F1 to share a larger slice of its revenue – the FIA has been losing money for years, see. To the get the FIA to sign, Ecclestone sold it a one-percent stake in F1 for $460,000 and gave the FIA a $5M signing 'bonus;' whenever F1 has its IPO, that stake is estimated to be worth about $120 million - not a bad return. Yet, according to the aforementioned 2001 agreement, the FIA can't have that equity stake.
