1969 Lotus Elan Plus 2 Coupe NO RESERVE AUCTION PLEASE LOOK AT THE 150+ DETAILED PICTURES SCROLLING AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS AUCTION FOR DETAILS.
This 1969 Lotus Elan S2 Coupe was purchased by a local Nashville Tennessee Vintage Racer and machine shop owner in 1991 from a fellow Vintage Racer from Atlanta Georgia. Shortly after his purchase of the car he disassembled the car for an allover repaint changing the color from the original yellow to British Racing Green. As is typically the case with “Body Shop Jail” the car sat at the body shop for almost 2 years before the paint job was completed and returned to the owner. By that time his interest in this car had lessened as he was involved with work on several of his other cars. For that reason this car was put on the “Way Back” burner and parked in storage since that time. The body on the car is in excellent condition with NO evidence of any accident damage. The new 20+ years ago paint job was probably nice back then however it now is average at best. The hood and trunk-lid are both in excellent condition. The original doors are very nice and will fit the car properly when properly adjusted. The power window motors and side glass are all complete and still in the doors along with the wiring. The unique and hard to find chrome window frames are in excellent condition. The door handles are missing. The front windshield is excellent along with an excellent original rear back glass. The front wiper arms are missing. The front headlights are complete and have the correct hideaway headlight actuators with the car. The front parking lights and lens are complete along with the original taillights. The front and rear bumpers are missing and not with the car. All the original weather-stripping is with the car and in poor condition. There is a bag with some new weather-stripping included with the car. Mechanically this car is MISSING THE ORIGINAL ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION! That’s right NO ENGINE AND NO TRANSMISSION! The original drive shaft and complete suspension is still in the car. The original engine and transmission now reside in a Vintage Race car owned by another person. The previous owner installed them in one of his Vintage Race cars and ultimately sold that car to another racer. The chassis under the car is the original chassis with the correct VIN number stamped in the chassis. The chassis is in excellent condition and is complete with all suspension components, brakes, six (6) original Lotus knock-off wheels and more. The original VIN tag is on the car along with the original DATA Tag on the inner fender. The power brake booster is off the car but is included with the car. This car was equipped with Air Conditioning. The A/C unit, some of the hoses, drier and A/C compressor are included with the car. The interior on the car is mostly complete however there are still missing parts. The original steering wheel is in excellent condition. The original seats and seat covers are in nice condition. I only have one door panel (driver’s side). The dash is totally complete with the original Speedometer, Tachometer and all the original switches and controls. The original wood dash is in nice condition. The center console is in nice condition. The rear seats are in nice condition. The rear sail panel and original rear package tray are included with the car. I have all the original carpet for the car, the side trim for the console and front floor. The original white headliner is still in the car. Also included will be an original Lotus Elan assembly manual and the supposedly original tool set provided with the car when new. This car is MISSING PARTS AND IS NOT COMPLETE. I have taken VERY DETAILED PICTURES OF ALL THE PARTS that go with the car. IF a part is not bolted on the car as shown in pictures OR not shown in the detailed pictures of parts I have included I DO NOT HAVE THAT PART! Rather than play “20 questions” concerning what parts are here and what parts are missing PLEASE LOOK CAREFULLY AT THE DETAILED PICTURES to determine what is there and what is missing. If you are looking at this car you probably are a Lotus enthusiast and already know what you are looking at. Lotus plans detuned Evora sans supercharger for US market
Wed, Mar 23 2016We may never see a new version of the Elise or Exige in the United States, but the legendary British marque has been steadily rolling out new versions of the Evora 2+2 sports car. According to Automotive News, the automaker based in Hethel is planning a detuned version of the Evora to help it get in line with US emissions regulations. "Over a five-year period in the U.S. we have to show a 3 percent per year reduction in carbon dioxide emissions," Lotus CEO Jean-Marc Gales told AN. "One option is remove the supercharger." Gales apparently feels that's a better option than downsizing to a 2.0-liter turbo four, which would require more reconfiguration than simply removing the supercharger. The former Peugeot chief cites the example of another British sports car manufacturer in McLaren, which detuned the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 from the 650S to slot into the 570S. In any event, the base Evora wouldn't be the only new version of the model we're expecting to see. The company recently rolled out the revised Evora 400, and revealed the even sharper Evora Sport 410 (pictured above) at the Geneva Motor Show last month. Lotus also has an Evora roadster in the works that's similarly targeted at the North American market. Following the base model, we wouldn't be surprised to see even more variants to follow. Lotus introduces Certificate of Provenance program
Mon, Aug 10 2020Lotus is diving into its vast archives to make it easier for owners to trace their car's history. It launched a global program called Certificate of Provenance that provides historical information about a specific car. Available through authorized Lotus dealers, the Certificate of Provenance includes details like the car's VIN and its original color. It also notes the date the car rolled off the assembly line in Hethel, England, and the date it entered the company's dealer network. Key specifications, including the engine, the transmission, and the extra-cost options the original owner ordered, are printed on a personalized Build Specification Letter. Owners who order the certificate will also receive a letter from Lotus CEO Phil Popham in which he pledged to explain the changes going on at the company, and how it's preparing for the future. Summing up the situation in a letter will likely be easier said than done, because Lotus (which is now controlled by Geely) is undergoing a complete transformation that includes a major product expansion and a renewed focus on the American market. It called the Evija, its first electric model, a trailblazer whose technology will permeate other battery-powered cars.  Related: Geely, with Volvo's help, plans to grow into a global auto giant  In addition to the aforementioned documents, enthusiasts who order a Certificate of Provenance will also receive an aluminum plaque engraved with the owner's name, a leather keychain, a carbon fiber bookmark, and a Lotus pen. Pricing starts at GBP170 plus the cost of shipping in the United Kingdom, a sum that represents about $225. And any Lotus owner can order it regardless of whether they own a 1959 Elite or a 2020 Evora GT. The first car certified by Lotus is a 1981 Esprit Turbo (pictured) that stands out as the last company car ordered by company founder Colin Chapman. Wearing registration number UVF 464X, it remained in Chapman's possession until his death in 1982, and it was sold to a private buyer the following year. Lotus recently purchased it with 11,000 miles on its odometer, and it plans to restore it before adding it to its heritage collection. Chapman didn't settle for a regular-production Esprit Turbo. He ordered his car with power steering (which wasn't available on the Esprit at the time), a lowered suspension, and modified brakes. He also ordered BBS wheels. Related Video:
Lotus is giving the electric Evija a V8-inspired soundtrack
Thu, Mar 11 2021Sound is a big part of the Lotus experience, whether it comes from a four- or a six-cylinder engine, so the company doesn't want its first electric car to be completely silent. It enlisted the help of music producer Patrick Patrikios to remix the Type 49 Formula One car's V8 into a series of sounds that will be programmed into the upcoming Evija. Patrikios comes from the music industry, he has notably worked with artists like Sia and Britney Spears, but he welcomed the collaboration with Lotus because he's been a fan of the brand since his father showed him an Esprit when he was a kid. He set out to create a new range of sounds that fits the Evija's character while honoring the carmaker's heritage, a task that's difficult to accomplish. Luckily, Lotus has several sonorous engines on its resume. "There's a purity to that V8, a raw edge and an emotion that stirs something in your soul, just like the best songs," summed up the producer when asked why he chose the eight-cylinder that powered the Type 49 to victory. Lotus Evija and Lotus Type 49 View 3 Photos After recording the Type 49's exhaust note, he began digitally remastering it and realized that slowing it down put it on a frequency similar to the natural driving sound emitted by the Evija. "I adjusted the replay speeds and digital filtering of the Type 49 to generate a soundscape for the Evija – it was a very organic process," he said. You can listen to the sound created by Patrikios in the video above; it's what pedestrians will hear when the Evija speeds by. He also developed the various chimes and tones that will resonate through the cabin, like when the turn signals are activated or when a seatbelt isn't fastened. Lotus previously confirmed that the Evija will influence future cars, and we know additional EVs are in the pipeline, so the sound could spread to other models.
