1988 Lotus Esprit Turbo
VIN: SCCFC20A8JHF62478 More than $11,000 in maintenance receipts Peter Stevens redesign generation--Type 910 turbo inline four-cylinder engine--Five-speed manual transmission Original leather interior--Original owners handbook--Power windows Upgraded three-fan cooling fan system AEM Universal Water/Methanol Injection Kit installed. Why did previous owner install this $400 kit? It reduces air inlet and exhaust-gas temperatures, which allows for increased boost pressure and advance timing without having to run higher-octane fuel. It’s like getting to run 100+ octane gas for the price of Premium! Area Lotus Performance Specialist at Intermecanica in Westchester, NY, who has worked on Esprit Turbos since 1976, and Lotuses since 1968, claims this is the most powerful ’88 he has seen. Better performance than some of the V8’s he has serviced and driven. And also one of the most well maintained. Some history on the car: A great sports car with meticulous maintenance documentation with the 1988 Lotus Esprit Turbo you see before you. British car manufacturer Lotus made the Esprit from 1976-2004 with a future release set in 2014. In 1987, the Esprit underwent a redesign by Peter Stevens for its fourth generation. It was often known by its project code of X180. A new Lotus patented process was introduced to create the new body called the VARI (Vacuum Assisted Resin Injection) process which offered more advantages than the previous hand-laid process. Kevlar reinforcement was added to the roof and sides for roll-over protection. The Stevens styled cars retained the mechanical components of the previous high compression Esprit and turbo Esprit but introduced a stronger Renault transaxle. The exterior style changes were accompanied by a redesign of the interior allowing more room for the driver and passengers. This Vehicle: The Lotus you see pictured has great ride and performance. This Esprit was well-cared for as the previous owner provided more than $11,000 in maintenance receipts from various shops around the southern California area. The original owners handbook is included with purchase. The black exterior paint shows well, and the original saddle leather interior shows some slight wear from usage but it does not take away from the drivability of the car. And with some time, the leather can be returned to near new condition, if not new. This Lotus comes equipped with power windows. The sports car sits on four Lotus alloy wheels wrapped in Firestone Firehawk tires measuring P195/60R15. Under the hood, you’ll see where this car gets its “turbo” moniker. The 910 turbo inline four-cylinder engine runs fantasticly. This engine is mated with a five-speed transmission. A note from the previous owner states this car has an upgraded cooling fan system with a three-fan setup. It allows this car to idle cool indefinitely in 100-degree stop-and-go traffic. This car has withstood the California heat and is ready to sharpen your collection. VIN is SCCFC20A8JHF62478, and mileage reads 64,700. It is being sold on a clear title. GET OUT AND DRIVE! |

Lotus to move immediately forward with new variants rather than new models
Mon, 22 Jul 2013It took 1.5 years, but a DRB-Hicom managing director told Malaysia's Business Times that the company has "cleaned up" the situation at Lotus from its finances to its marketing and image. The clean-up job we're most interested in, the product portfolio, will be demonstrated by financial investment in a three-year program of "variants based on existing products - variants with improved technology, improved performance."
You'll notice mention of the word "variants" three times but no mention of the phrase "new models." We knew that with the death of the five-new-model turnaround plan dreamed up by ex-Lotus CEO Dany Bahar DRB-Hicom said there'd only be three distinct lines - which is the current number - but during Lotus' trouble-plagued 2012 it sold just 80 cars all year, and for a tense spell it really wasn't clear if DRB-Hicom would commit to even keeping Lotus alive, much less investing in it.
It's not clear how much is being put into in the three-year program of offshoot models like the 345-horsepower Exige S Roadster (pictured), but it might be fair to say this is where Lotus' revival really begins, and does so with baby steps. Autocar reports that DRB-Hicom has already put 100 million pounds into the English carmaker, and as its issues were worked through Lotus has sold almost as many cars in the first five months of this year as it did all of last. That has not only convinced the Malaysian minders to throw more money its way, but the UK's business secretary has also approved a 10-million-pound investment into Lotus through the Regional Growth Facility program.
A Lotus worthy of the legend | 2017 Lotus Evora 400 First Drive
Fri, Oct 14 2016Lotus is back, both literally and figuratively. After the British brand's two-year absence, the Evora 400 marks its return to the American market. It also shows what's in store as Lotus moves forward after a rough few years. We'll cut straight to the point: The Evora 400 is the best car Lotus has ever made. The heritage of the brand founded by Colin Chapman is centered around the holistic benefits of light weight and simplicity. But historically, light was a synonym for fragile. Heap on the old British build-quality stereotypes like leaking windows and intermittent electrics, and you have the Lotus reputation for brilliant but fickle cars. Owning a Lotus is a badge of honor, the car-culture equivalent of riding a fixed-gear bicycle. And while quality has improved, even modern Lotus models like the Elise, Exige, and previous Evora have a decidedly minimalist approach to comfort. That lack of modern amenities kept sales to a minimum before crash-test standards forced Lotus's hiatus from our shores. And by modern amenities we mean basics like functional air conditioning, a cabin you can climb into without pulling a muscle, and trim pieces that don't fall off from normal use. So when we say the Evora 400 is the best Lotus ever, we mean that in more than one way. It's of a material and build quality befitting the $93,785 starting price, and it retains the almost telepathic connection to the driver while increasing performance on all fronts. The 400 in the name stands for 400 horsepower. Power still comes from a Toyota-sourced 3.5-liter V6, but a new supercharger is now intercooled and delivers about 9 pounds per square inch of boost, up from 5.5 psi. It's a 55-hp jump, with a modest torque increase of 7 pound-feet, to 302. The numerical suffix, though, might suggest this is just a variant, like the Evora S was to the original Evora. Not so. Lotus says over two thirds of the parts are new, including front and rear body panels. The new Evora has a cleaner look, less like an inflated Elise and more like the mid-engine exotic that it is. View 29 Photos But the biggest change to the Evora is the interior. The door sill, perhaps the biggest hindrance to practicality, is now 2.2 inches lower and 1.7 inches narrower. The footwell is also 3.3 inches wider. Getting in and sitting now just feels like it does in most other cars, which, for Lotus, is a revelation. Hey, there's room for a dead pedal to the left of the clutch!
Lotus C-01 motorcycle rumored to get 200-hp V-twin engine
Sun, 12 Jan 2014Back in June, Lotus announced it was getting into the motorcycle business. Or, we should say, Kodewa and the Holzer Group are getting into the motorcycle business, and have acquired the rights to use the Lotus name. One way or another, we're now receiving word on some of the specs we can expect from the prototype dubbed C-01.
The Lotus motorcycle is being designed by Daniel Simon, the automotive futurist who has penned, among other things, the light-cycles for Tron: Legacy and the livery on the LMP2 racer Kodewa also fields under the Lotus name. So you know it's going to look pretty awesome, but what will make it go?
According to Visor Down, the C-01 is being tested with a V-twin engine sourced from an undisclosed supplier that produces 170 horsepower in stock trim but has been tuned to produce nearly 200 hp in Lotus trim. A pair of prototypes - one with carbon-fiber bodywork and one without - have already undergone several thousand kilometers of testing, and are said to be handling "very well."
