Lotus Esprit, One Of Nicest Around !!! on 2040-cars
Palmdale, California, United States
Hello:
I am selling my 1997 Lotus V8 twin turbo supercar. My Esprit is without a doubt one of the most immaculate V8 examples around, especially for the model year. Cosmetics are superb, most people think it is a new car. Mechanics are in great shape, have extensive service records, all owners have been beyond meticulous and this Esprit has definitely been maintained to the highest standards. Last owner took immaculate care and spared no expense, he lived in San Diego, CA and kept it for 7 years. I purchased car in August 2011, would keep it for years but other priorities take precedence. Has only been serviced at Symbolic Motors, Viking Motors and Lotus by Claudius since in California. The highlights are as follows: 1. Schedule C service, new Gates blue HD belts and pulleys, about 4 mos and 1000 miles ago. 2. Royal Purple synthetic oil change, same day as installation of belts etc. Old oil was as clean as day it was changed and engine did not use a drop. 3. New low idle control module. 4. New O2 sensors, just passed California smog test with flying colors, emission readings were very low. 5. Clutch and second gear were replaced about 9.2K miles ago. I have about the nicest Renault gearbox around. Shifting is precise, syncros are great, reverse is solid with no issues. 6. Alternator was replaced upon delivery to me from Symbolic motors. New Bosch battery with lifetime warranty 7. Currently has Lotus Factory high output ECU installed (have receipt for $ 2500) and also have "Race ECU" which might go along with purchase. 8. Lotus by Claudius "cat back custom exhaust", sounds much better than stock but does not affect smog equipment in any way. 9. Blow off valves, Labor alone was $ 1100 by Lotus by Claudius 10. Michelin Pilot tires are: front 60% but older and compound is hard, best to be replaced ($ 450 for set). Rear tires are 70 % and in great shape. Rotors are in very good condition, Newer pads and complete suspension was recently checked and nothing out of ordinary wear and tear was found 11. Alpine CD deck, IPOD connector, remote, with upgraded speakers and subwoofer in passenger floorboard, professionally installed. System sounds fantastic 12. Momo red insert steering wheel installed and factory airbag wheel included 13. Upgraded when car was new OZ Wheels Futura rims 14. Have all books, keys, toolkit, expensive hard copy of Factory service manual, Lotus OEM red wind deflector. 15. No codes, No check engine light, Lotus by Claudius tested the on board computer system with their Lotus handheld module and there are no issues of any kind. Lastly, I am extremely picky when it comes to cosmetics on a car, I rate the interior a strong 9.5 (only flaw is one minor scuff on driver side seating bolster, easy fix) and exterior a strong 9.4 (few tiny rock chips( about 6 total) on front end which are very small and touched up, cannot prevent this from happening) .Original Red paint looks like a 2012 with extreme gloss, no clearcoat issues,no scratches etc. Clean Carfax and Autocheck, I feel very confident if a potential buyer viewed my car in person would be more than pleased with overall condition. In closing if you factor in all the recent preventive maintenance, newer clutch and 2nd gear, very sound mechanics and ultra clean cosmetics this is just a fantastic turn key example and a extremely well priced Esprit !!! If you have any questions please contact me and I will be more than pleased to answer all inquiries. Thanks |

New models, new markets: Lotus plans major expansion in the 2020s
Wed, Apr 1 2020Lotus was so quiet during the 2010s that some enthusiasts wonder if it still exists. It's alive, it's healthier than it's ever been in recent memory, and it's orchestrating a major expansion that will put it back in the spotlight. Its renaissance starts with the Evija, an electric hypercar packing a 2,000-horsepower punch that Matt Windle, the company's engineering boss, called a trailblazer. Future models will all be influenced by this limited-edition coupe. Beyond that, the company is taking steps to overhaul its entire business, from the design language that characterizes its cars to the restaurant its employees eat at — seriously. Even the cafeteria is getting a makeover. "We're building the brand, building the product range, building the dealer network, and building facilities. There's a huge investment program going on," Windle told Autoblog. "We need to shoot the arrow far enough ahead so that we don't get stuck in the day-to-day problems and instead keep an eye on what we need to do long-term," he added. The company's to-do list is long, and rebuilding a brand is difficult, but Lotus believes it can pull it off. The executive team is betting on an array of new products to reach customers in markets Lotus has little or no presence in; the United States comes to mind. The ultimate goal is to increase the brand's annual volume. Windle understandably couldn't shed light on the product plan, but unverified rumors point to a born-again Esprit powered by a 500-horsepower hybrid powertrain made up of a mid-mounted, Toyota-sourced V6 and electric components provided by sister company Volvo. Another one of the company's future models is an SUV —its first — allegedly built on Volvo bones and aimed at the Porsche Macan. We hear a new Elise is coming, too. The engineer explained his team doesn't feel the least bit constrained by the decades-long heritage Lotus is built on, and it's ready to embrace new technologies as it moves forward. "Electrification has given us the ability to look at things differently," he explained, while clarifying the company's core values (aerodynamics, ride, handling, and lightweight construction) won't be overlooked as it expands. "We will stay true to them," he pledged. "Light is right," the phrase famously coined by Lotus founder Colin Chapman, will live on, then. China-based Geely purchased a majority stake in Lotus in 2017 and it's helping turn it around.
Lotus opens the 2013 Formula One season with the launch of the E21 [w/video]
Wed, 30 Jan 2013Lotus has broken the seal on the 2013 Formula One season, launching the E21 car at its factory in Enstone. With the regulations this year quite similar to those of last year, there are no dramatic changes in form compared to the E20. After some teams lobbied to be able to cover the stepped nose with a "vanity panel," Lotus retained the configuration, the team's technical director saying that the panel would add more weight and didn't make sense to put on the car unless it also added performance.
Beyond that, the E21 is said to be an comprehensive advance in its details - the suspension gets a new layout, the Coanda exhaust and the passive double DRS system are evolutions from last year, the front wing is "a continuation of concepts" from 2009.
After securing fourth in the Constructor's Championship last year, this is the chassis that drivers Kimi Räikkönen and Romain Grosjean will use to try and move the team up a place, which would mean beating one of the big three teams over the course of the season. The quietly and impressively consistent Räikkönen managed third in the Driver's Championship, and we're sure he wouldn't mind a move up in the standings, either.
2017 Renault Alpine still looks like a Lotus
Thu, Jul 23 2015Two years ago, an oddly modified Lotus Exige was photographed speeding around the Nurburgring. While that car looked British, at the time Renault's engineers were reportedly developing the suspension for the future Alpine sports coupe underneath with some help from the folks at Ohlins. Now, our spies have spotted this weird Lotus-bodied mule out testing, and it might be a major hint that development for the reborn French brand is getting serious again. Unfortunately, it's hard to pull many details about the future Alpine just from this mule. Up front the air extractors are noticeably covered, and at the rear there's now a panel hiding the engine with just some small vents near the very back. The roof-mounted scoop appears to be the major means of sending cool air to the powertrain. Alpine has been back in the news as of late. At the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the brand's Celebration Concept was unveiled but without many real details. Then, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the car was filmed actually moving under its own power. Earlier reports suggest that a production version, possibly called the AS1, might come in 2017 with around 250 horsepower on tap from an engine mounted behind the driver. Engineers would keep weight as low as possible to make the most from that power. While no version in the US is likely, prices in Europe might be about the equivalent of $34,000 to $40,000.
