Hello:

I am selling my Lotus Esprit V8 twin Turbo, it is a 1997 and immaculate cosmetically and near flawless mechanically. I would not be selling it but can only keep one weekend car and my other listing (BMW widebody 540i show car) has not had any offers close to what I am asking) so Esprit has to find a new home.  Here are the details:  Purchased it in July 2011 with 31.8 k miles and previous owner was a collector who was fanatical with his cars. Symbolic Motors in San Diego Calif, Lotus Prep by Claudius and Viking Motors in Costa Mesa were only shops that worked on it since his ownership. I had Lotus Prep on 4/3/13 reset the ECU (battery went too low about 9 mos ago), install Claudius built straight pipe and Momo red accent steering wheel. Timing belts always checked on timely basis, I had Symbolic Motors check the belts prior to purchase and they were perfect, car was also given clean bill of health. Mechanic at Symbolic stated my Esprit was probably the nicest he has worked on. I was told it was worth $ 35 K by Lotus Prep.  Has stock and Race ECUs, stock pipe and Claudius straight pipe (not too loud), Electronic Boost controller( pro installed and always set at low pressure), Blow off valves, K& N filter, CD player with speakers and subwoofer, upgraded factory OZ wheels (no road rash or corrosion, showroom condition), I am very picky and rate the cosmetic condition a solid 9.4 (most people think it is a 2012 and for a 16 yr old car, simply unbelievable). Mechanics are close to mint (please contact me for details), I firmly believe you will be hard pressed to find another Esprit in this condition both mechanically and cosmetically. Now the awesome part, within last 8K has new alternator, fuel pump, 2nd gear and clutch, transmissions shifts great and even reverse is excellent, etc etc.  Have books and very detailed records, current Calif registration, clear CA pink slip. Car is located near Los Angeles.  If your looking for a V8 Esprit please check mine out, it is a turn key example and most importantly mechanically sound and cosmetically absolutely pristine.  If you have any questions my cell is 213 216-2285     Just a FYI, these pictures were taken about 2 weeks ago, reason the new car title is taped to front windshield, I don't have a front license plate attached to front bumper and don't want to be pulled over by CHP in California.    Thanks

Lotus Type 66 is the Can-Am race car that never was

Sat, Aug 19 2023

Most car reveals for Pebble Beach are all-new luxury and supercars, faithful recreations of classics, or some unique restomods. What Lotus has revealed isn't really any of those. The Type 66, while looking like a reproduction of a classic race car, is actually completely new, since it was never built in the first place. Apparently Lotus was considering entering the Can-Am racing series back in 1970, a time when the company was seriously competitive in Formula 1. A designer by the name of Geoff Ferris was put in charge, and drawings and models were made, but the project, called Type 66, never went any further. Those Type 66 designs survived, and to help celebrate the company's 75th anniversary, Lotus decided to bring the car to life. And the result is not exactly what it would've been built for 1970. The design is very similar, and the red, white and gold paint is what Lotus would've used. However, the body has been formed from carbon fiber (something that was definitely not used) and makes much more downforce thanks to more than 1,000 hours of aero development. Specifically, it can produce 1,764 pounds of downforce at 150 mph, more than the weight of the vehicle. The frame is more traditional, though, being made of extruded and bonded aluminum and aluminum honeycomb panels. The powertrain is a similar blend of vintage and modern. It uses a pushrod V8 of unknown manufacture, but with forged internals as well as modern fuel and engine management. It makes a huge 819 horsepower at 8,800 rpm and 550 pound-feet of torque at 7,400 rpm. It also has functional and classic-looking gleaming intake trumpets sticking out the back. Safety and features that are thoroughly modern are also included in the Type 66. It has electric power steering, ABS, a modern fuel sell, sequential manual transmission and an anti-stall multiplate clutch. Only 10 Type 66s will be built, one for every race in the 1970 Can-Am season. Each one will cost more than GBP1 million, or $1.27 million. And, unsurprisingly, it's for the track only. Lotus hits the track with new Elise S Cup R

Mon, 11 Nov 2013

If you want to take a Lotus to the track but the Exige V6 Cup is a bit too much to handle, the boys from Hethel have a new offering that may be of interest.
The new Elise S Cup R features all the track-tuned bells and whistles of its six-cylinder brethren, including a competition-spec aero kit, adjustable suspension, Yokohama racing slicks on 17-inch forged alloys, tow hooks, remapped ECU, cross-drilled and ventilated disc brakes and an interior with a HANS-compatible bucket seat, six-point racing harness and quick-release steering wheel. But instead of a heavier and more powerful V6, the Elise S Cup R "adds lightness" with the same 1.8-liter supercharged inline-four with 217 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque as the road-going Elise S. Yet with all that track-tuned gear, it's a good four seconds per three-mile lap faster than the showroom stock version in the automaker's testing.
Interested parties can pick one up in the UK for £39,125 (before taxes, equivalent to about $63k) and either lap it to their hearts' content at private track days or enter it in one of the dozen Lotus Cup series operating around the world. Lotus only released this one photo (click above to enlarge), but you can check out the full specs in the press release below.

Lamborghini Countach, Ferrari 512M and more immortalized as Lego sets

Tue, Feb 1 2022

Lego has announced a slew of new Speed Champions sets, the ones based on actual licensed cars, for 2022. The latest batch includes a smorgasbord of supercars, from beloved classics like the Lamborghini Countach to yet-to-be-released promises like the long-awaited Mercedes-AMG One. There are seven cars in total, released in five sets.  Our favorite is probably the 262-piece Lamborghini Countach, based on a later LP500 variant. Not only does it tick the box of a childhood dream machine, but the angular shape of the real-life Countach lends itself well to being recreated in Lego bricks. Also, it's modeled in white rather than the typical red. Lego Speed Champions Ferrari 512M 1 View 6 Photos We also really dig the Ferrari 512M. It marked the last of Ferrari's V12 endurance racers, and even though it was soundly spanked by the Porsche 917, the cars are undeniably beautiful. The 291-piece Lego set does a great job of capturing its brutal wedge silhouette in brick form. Lego Speed Champions Lotus Evija 1 View 5 Photos Rounding out the single-car sets is the 247-piece Lotus Evija. The electric Lotus has a bit of a generic supercar look about it, but that's not entirely the fault of the Lego kit. Its dramatic vents can't really be replicated with the limited "resolution" of the Lego bricks. Its rear, with unique taillight-encircled air tunnels, is a bit more distinctive. Lego Speed Champions Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR & Vantage GT3 1 View 7 Photos In addition to the single car sets, there are two larger sets of two cars each. One is a 592-piece Aston Martin-themed pack that includes the Valkyrie AMR Pro and Vantage GT3. Again, it's a bit difficult to sculpt the cars' curvaceous lines out of straight-edged bricks, but the effort is admirable. The Valkyrie is probably the more successful of the two, as the Vantage would resemble a Corvette or Viper if it didn't have stickers to clarify the details. Lego Speed Champions Mercedes-AMG F1 W12 E Performance & Project One 01 View 9 Photos Last but not least is a twofer comprised of 564 bricks to build the Mercedes-AMG One and seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton's W12 racer. In Lego's official product description the driver is not mentioned by name, but the number 44 gives it away. The model of the One indeed looks like a sharp supercar, but the blocky pieces don't exactly replicate the lines we've seen on camouflaged test mules.
