This is the car Lotus wanted to sell. Instead of detuning their wonderful V8 due to drivetrain issues, - fix the weak transaxle and let it pump out the 500 horses it was intended to! That’s exactly what you have here. The current owner ( only the second ) has taken a, sweet 20K California car and spent well over 100,000 to build this Ferrari eating supercar. All this and it is still capable of passing the strict California Emissions test and dropping a very happy kid off at school. Most of the work was performed by a well known Los Angeles County Lotus specialist and there has been a lot of it. Starting with the engine, it has been completely disassembled blueprinted, balanced and rebuilt using new bearings, forged pistons etc. The heads have been reworked and fuel system has benefited from a set of matched injectors and an ECU that is reprogrammable with the use of chips. Breathing in through K&N free flowing filters the turbo’s ( both rebuilt) now cool the air in a large charge cooler prior to the engine breathing out through racing cats. The manifolds have been Jet Hot coated and the racing exhaust system features upgraded O2 sensors and the turbos have new blow off valves and a very neat 15 pound boost gauge added to the interior. The result is an amazing sound and incredible performance. Aesthetically the engine also looks the part with a lot of candy blue powder coating, Aeroquip lines and braided or silicone hoses. The whole thing is held in the car by a set of heavy duty engine mounts. The torque is gripped by a 3 plate racing clutch and fed into the upgraded UN-1-13 gearbox, and custom linkage that is controlled with a brushed aluminum shifter knob with Lotus logo. The final drive was replaced with a Quaife limited slip differential. The rubber that hits the road consists of a good set of Dunlop Sport 9000 tires, 285/35ZR18 on the rear and 235/40zZR17 on the front. Suspension tweaking was next with new Lotus Bilstein shocks front and back, held up by Eibach springs all round with a 17mm sway bar fitted at the front. Finally stopping power was increased to match the forward motion by using Willwood 6 pot calipers on the front with a similar set of 4 piston units at the back with 12 inch ventilated discs all round. The cooling system did not go untouched either, having a new water pump, hi capacity radiator and high performance fan set-up, which all keep this fire breathing beast cool at all times.. To protect this vulnerable area a ¼ inch thick skid plate was added under the front. There is also a manual override switch controllable from the drivers seat. To help keep you driving, the car is equipped with Generation 8 High Power laser interceptors with quad detectors and a Valentine One radar locator, high range hidden system with controls units in the dash and hidden sensors installed in the front and rear bumpers – Stealth? The interior shows a little use, but is in good condition, with race inspired leather seats and dash, as well as a leather wrapped steering wheel and hand brake. It has also had a Halon fire extinguishing system neatly installed – just in case! This Esprit also has been equipped with a Kenwood radio with IPod connection, DVD and GPS system, and has had additional speakers installed for a total of 6 Alpine and 2 Infinity speakers, 4-mid range and 2 large woofers, and two tweeters with an external amplifier system. The car also has an active Low Jack anti theft system installed. The factory heat and air conditioning, both work as intended. The headlights were upgraded to new Hella Headlamp System, and the taillights are LED. The entire front half of the car has been shielded with SC Clearbra to eliminate road rash and it has done a good job. The exterior paint very nice, a deep black and in good condition, there is one minor scratch on the driver side quarter panel. There are some chips and scrapes to the lower valence/bumper but nothing unexpected or unusual. It has had a new gasket kit for the sun roof installed. There is a lot of invoices and a current smog certificate that go with this car along with a hardtop panel and some extra exhaust parts. This black beauty starts with ease, idles smoothly with performance that is breathtakingly fast. Although this car is obviously extremely powerful, it is surprisingly docile and easy to drive. The racing clutch is firm but forgiving and the gears selection easy and precise, not always the case with mid engine cars. It’s easy to just to cruise around town - until you stop wanting to cruise. The upgrades have come together to make this an exceptional automobile. This is a testament to the overall approach of no cutting corners by the owner and the professional manner in which these upgrades have been carried out. It has been well looked after since its purchase in 2006 and driven frequently but lightly by its mature owner and now it is time to pass it on for someone else to enjoy. It has never been crashed and it is straight, very clean and turns heads wherever it goes.

Lotus hiring 100 after securing lb100m investment

Fri, 02 Aug 2013

Lotus is getting a shot in the arm courtesy of corporate parent DRB-Hicom, which has announced a 100-million pound ($152.3M USD at today's rates) investment in the Hethel, UK-based manufacturer. The troubled brand was also in the news last week, with DRB announcing a new, three-year plan that would see variants of existing models introduced.
The money will create 100 new jobs in Hethel, with 45 new engineers, 40 manufacturing operatives and 18 university grads joining the team. Lotus has already seen an uptick in sales this year, according to a Norfolk-based news site, with 40 to 45 cars being produced per week and 722 road cars and 45 race cars sold between January and May. Even sales in the UK have seen a big jump - Lotus only moved 70 units in 2012, but it's already sold 80 cars in the first half of 2013.
Better yet, Lotus is citing an increased demand for its cars around the globe as the motive behind the new hires. While still quite uncertain, Lotus looks like it might finally be on the right track.

China's Geely buying majority stake in Lotus

Wed, May 24 2017

Geely, the Hong Kong car company that owns Volvo, is acquiring control of British car company Lotus. Geely is purchasing a 51-percent stake in Lotus from struggling Malaysian car company Proton, and a 49.9 percent stake in Proton itself. Etika Automotive will gain the other 49 percent of Lotus. France's PSA Group and Japan's Suzuki had apparently also been interested in acquiring Proton. Geely says it plans to revive both Proton and Lotus. "The agreement lays the foundation for a wider framework for both Geely Holding, Proton and Lotus to explore joint synergies in areas such as research and development, manufacturing and market presence," Geely said in a news release. Those joint synergies will be highlighted by the lightweight chassis technology Lotus is known for, which could help Geely improve fuel efficiency. Geely CFO Daniel Donghui Li said the company aims to "unleash the full potential of Lotus Cars" by expanding and accelerating new products and technologies. Proton was nationally held but was privatized in 2007 to Malaysian conglomerate DRB-Hicom, which is owned by tycoon Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary. It was supposed to be the flagship for Malaysia's economic development.Though it owns two factories, Proton mainly rebadges foreign-made cars and sells them in Malaysia. What it has, what Geely presumably wants, is a distribution network in Southeast Asia to pit Chinese cars against Japanese automotive dominance in the region. Retaining a 50.1-percent stake in Proton is seen as a face-saving move. "Proton will always remain a national car and a source of pride, as Proton will still have a majority hold of 50.1 percent," Malaysian finance official Johari Abdul Ghani said. "Our very own much-loved brand now has a real chance in making a comeback, a huge one I hope." Related Video:

See the Lotus Evija in detail in this 23-minute video

Sun, Jul 21 2019

Henry Catchpole splits his time as a contributor to Evo magazine with on-camera work for Carfection. The ever-gracious Englishmen took to the studio again recently to pore over the brand new Lotus Evija — and his first gift to us is the electric coupe's proper pronunciation: ee-VYE-yah. For a full 23 minutes, Catchpole tours the coming Lotus hypercar with Lotus' head designer Russell Carr. The two men sweep over the car from front to rear, Carr explaining the origins and details of the many shiny bits that attract Catchpole's eye. The spec sheet alone is attention-getting. A 70-kWh battery fuels a powertrain rated at 2,000 horsepower and 1,254 pound-feet of torque. All-wheel drive and torque vectoring are made possible by electric motors motors front and rear, but the setup is novel. A single drive unit on each axle combines a motor and inverter, but we're told each wheel gets its own gearbox. The package is a little shorter and wider than a Porsche 911, but sits seven inches lower than the roof of the German. Scales bend to the weight of 3,700 pounds in spite of magnesium center-lock wheels, that grandeur managed in part by six Multimatic spool-valve dampers, three on each axle. Just 130 Evijas will be produced, starting next year, each one starting at around $2.1 million. Lotus has filled the coupe with visual flourishes. The Lotus badge on the front is metal inlaid into the carbon fiber bodywork. Carr said he wasn't sure the engineers would be able to finalize that for production, but the designers are hoping. Fans inside the headlights keep the lumens cool, while movable DRLs and turn signals angled like the winglets on an airliner make the lumens look cool. Another neat lighting trick: The "T" in the word "Lotus" on the rear fascia acts as the reversing light. Two features we haven't yet seen on the latest batch of hypercars are adjustable seats, and a strip of metal in the headrests that can be etched the slogan of a customer's choice. And in spite of all the firsts for Lotus in this car, there's one holdover from the Hethel carmaker's other compact sports cars: A dearth of luggage space. The only cubbies are polygonal-shaped holes in the rear of the door sills. It doesn't sound so bad when Catchpole explains it, though, so check out the video.
