1986 Lotus Esprit Turbo Hci on 2040-cars
Saint Clair, Michigan, United States
For sale: 1986 Lotus Esprit Turbo HCI. 38,619 Original Miles. This is a very presentable and great example of an S3 Esprit. It is ready for a new owner and will be greatly enjoyed by whoever gets to own this rare vehicle. Not many of these Esprit's were built, in 1986 only about 200 Esprit Turbo cars were built in the world. This is a very sought after exotic car and is becoming very hard to come by. If your looking for the exotic feel in a not so crazy price range this may be the car for you. In the past few years the market has went up incredibly on this body style Esprit. The Esprit I'm selling is in good condition for its age and its 90% original state. This Esprit is also a real HCI model car.
History on this Esprit: We are the second owners of the car. The car was purchased and owned in the Miami area of Florida by the First owner. We purchased the car from Auto Europe in 1995 which is a pretty well known Lotus and Morgan dealer in the state of Michigan. The car had around 30,000 miles when we first got the car. It was driven rarely only on nice days up until the early 2000's when the car ended up being parked after finding out it needed a fuel pump. This Esprit sat in our heated garage for about 9-10 years unfixed. We moved recently and brought the car with us. The car belonged to my father I just recently got around to putting a pump in the car within the year, and had the car completely looked over top to bottom and serviced back at Auto Europe. Car is now running better than ever. We still have no time to really enjoy the car so that's why it is being put up on the market. The car was always kept indoors, climate controlled garages. Never seen snow or salt. So here is your chance to get your hands on a very rare and desirable Lotus Esprit. Exterior: The body of this Esprit is in nice shape. Original black paint on the body. Has some clear peel on the head light buckets, mirror tops, and tops of the fenders that is barely noticeable unless looking close. Has some checks in the paint on the roof. Minor scratches and chips. I would like to be honest with the buyer so you know exactly what your buying that's why I will be including a link to Photobucket with many High resolution photos. Paint shines beautiful and you can see yourself clearly in the paint while walking down the car. The whole body is intact. Emblems are all in good shape. Pin striping and stickers are in excellent shape. The glass is in very good shape. All lights are in good shape. The trim and bumpers are also all in great condition. As you know the top does remove, I do have the fiberglass piece you put on after the top is off also. Everything opens and closes as it should. Original BBS wheels are in good shape no rash but they do have some paint peel inside the spokes. Great example of an S3 Esprit in its original state. Interior: The interior of this Esprit is in good/excellent condition. The seat leather is in nice shape but does have a small 5" tear in the corner of the passenger seat. The arm rest has been recovered black and I believe should be put back to tan. The dash is in very nice condition. The top of the dash above the instrument cluster has some fade in color. The fan knob is missing and the A/C control knob is missing. Has a MOMO Indy wood grain steering wheel that is in perfect condition and a wood grain MOMO Shift knob. Rest of the interior leather and carpet are in good shape. Headliner is also in good shape and does have the factory clock that works. Everything in the interior works as it should. Mechanically: The car is in sound mechanical condition. Runs and Drives straight and tight down the road. The handling on the car is incredible. The car does not have any vibrations or shakes. The motor runs smooth and quiet. Does not burn any oil and does not leak anything. Underneath is dry and leak free. The 5 speed Maserati transmission shifts flawlessly and clutch feels great. The car makes full boost and has a ton of power and is a blast to drive. The car has many new parts. The car has had a new tune up recently plugs and wires. New battery. Starter rebuilt. Distributor was gone through and has a new pickup coil. The fuel pumps and fuel filters are new. The car stops as it should no pulsations or grinds in the brakes. Suspension wise the car rides stiff and rolls smooth down the road. The only issue is the brake light on the dash does stay on and I'm not sure why. The tires were just replaced with a factory sized tire front and rear. The headlights flip up and work as they should. I do have some receipts for the recent work done to the car. The front trunk is clean and has the factory spare tire and the jack equipment also. The engine compartment is all together and not missing anything. Engine looks clean some of the factory orange paint has peeled off the intake and valve covers but the engine is clean and leak free. The exhaust is quiet and has no leak or common manifold leaks. All the carpet in the engine compartment is intact. The engine cover is in excellent shape and latches as it should. The rear hood shocks do not work very well. The underneath of the car is clean and looks as it should. No rust or oil residue on the parts. The fiberglass covers underneath are all intact and not cracked or busted. I tried to explain this Esprit to the best of my knowledge and so you know exactly what you are getting. I will add video I uploaded to YouTube and I will include a link to Photobucket so you can view more pictures of the car. If you would like more videos I do have some I could send you. In conclusion this is one of the cheaper and best performing exotics of the era for the money. Driving one of these cars is a very unique experience and its something that I would recommend to try. These cars are small, light and quick. Surprisingly with how small the car is it is very comfortable and fells very roomy inside. This will be a bidding style auction. I will set a reserve which I think is fair. May the highest bidder get the car, good luck and happy bidding!!! Please contact me via phone if you have "0" feedback before bidding and please make sure your funds are available before purchasing the car. Lotus signs joint venture agreement with China's Goldstar
Sat, Apr 18 2015Lotus and China's Goldstar Heavy Industrial Company are forming a joint venture that will bring the historic British sports-car maker into the country. "The collaboration seeks to accelerate the development of Lotus cars in the premium sports segment in China," according to the announcement. The JV will include research projects on efficient and advanced technology, and ultimately lead to sales of cars there, Lotus said. China's auto market is no longer experiencing the double-digit growth of the past, but it still continues to expand. Meanwhile, Lotus saw sales jump 55 percent in the last fiscal year and it opened 36 new dealers, according to CEO Jean-Marc Gales. The joint venture announcement also hints at the possibility of Chinese-made models, but it shouldn't dilute the brand. Lotus is clear that core vehicles like the Evora, Exige and Elise would remain exclusively in production at the headquarters in Hethel, England. Just a couple years ago, Lotus appeared to be on its deathbed after losing a quarter of its workforce, but since that setback the company has started to crawl back. PROTON, LOTUS GROUP AND GOLDSTAR SIGNED JV AGREEMENT KUALA LUMPUR – PROTON Holdings Berhad ("PROTON") the ultimate holding company of Lotus Group, announced that it has signed a Joint Venture ("JV") Agreement with Lotus Group International Limited, United Kingdom ("Lotus Group") and Goldstar Heavy Industrial Co. Ltd. ("Goldstar") for a possible business expansion of Lotus cars in the People's Republic of China. The collaboration seeks to accelerate the development of Lotus cars in the premium sports segment in China, leveraging on the incentives offered by the Fujian Provincial Government. Both PROTON and Lotus Group are subsidiaries of DRB-HICOM Berhad. Signing on behalf of PROTON was the Honourable Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Chairman of PROTON and former Prime Minister of Malaysia and witnessed by Dato' Abdul Harith Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer of PROTON. Signing on behalf of Lotus Group International Limited, United Kingdom was Jean-Marc Gales, Chief Executive Officer and witnessed by Mr Rohime Shafie, Director of Lotus Group and Chief Financial Officer of PROTON; and signing on behalf of Goldstar was Mr Zheng Qianghui, Chairman of Goldstar and witnessed by Mr Zhai Wenliang, President of Goldstar.
Lotus planning new 400-hp 2-Eleven successor [UPDATE]
Thu, Feb 26 2015UPDATE: A previous version of this post suggested the Evora's new 400-horsepower V6 might find its way into the Elise, but sources indicate that it wouldn't fit. The text below has been updated accordingly. It's been nine months since Jean-Marc Gales took over as the new head of Lotus, and as Top Gear recently discovered, the former Peugeot chief is cleaning house. Gales doesn't put himself in the camp of past Lotus execs (Dany Bahar chief among them) who've reasoned that the company can only succeed if it introduces new and more upscale products. Instead he's focusing on the brand's existing models – namely the Elise, Exige and Evora – but don't think that means they'll just be skating by. On his watch, Lotus recently introduced the Elise S Cup (apparently the first model it ever introduced on schedule) and the new Evora 400 (ahead of schedule), and there are plans for more. Though Gales apparently has no intention of producing an engine in-house, the Toyota-based 3.5-liter supercharged V6 – now producing 400 horsepower and 302 pound-feet of torque – is slated to be slotted into the Exige as well. Perhaps most exciting, though, is the prospect of a successor for the 2-Eleven. That windowless speedster was the most extreme interpretation of the Exige, packing just 252 hp but weighing less than 1,500 pounds. The next version would weigh considerably more – closer to 2,000 pounds – but pack that new 400-hp engine to drive the power-to-weight ratio through the roof (if it even has one) in pursuit of a Nurburgring lap record. Don't expect it to switch to carbon fiber construction, though: Like his colleagues at Ferrari, Gales is convinced that aluminum is the way to go, offering comparable weight-saving benefits but at a fraction the cost. To ensure that these new products don't disappear in a cloud of tire smoke and irrelevance, Gales is also overhauling the way Lotus markets its cars. For one thing, he's opening new showrooms in key markets like Paris, Berlin, Monte Carlo and Abu Dhabi. For another, he's making sure Lotus actually keeps a database of its customers, something which it almost unbelievably didn't bother with until now. Those might not be the most exciting aspects of the business, but if that's all it will take to keep Lotus in the game, we're all for it. Lotus nearing decision on sedan versus crossover
Mon, Mar 9 2015Lotus may be comfortable for the time being developing newer and better versions of its existing sports cars, but it won't necessarily skate by on its aging product portfolio forever. According to a report from Reuters, Lotus and its Malaysian parent company DRB-Hicom are currently considering adding a new model to the British automaker's lineup. And in a further sign of the times, it seems likely that the new model would be either a sedan or crossover. "I'm a bit torn between an SUV and a four-door sports car – but in the end I can see that the SUV has the bigger market," Lotus CEO Jean-Marc Gales told Reuters. "We'd do an SUV that is very light, very fast on the track and has outstanding handling," in keeping with what Lotus is known for. It would not be the first sports car manufacturer to delve into either category, of course. Porsche rebuilt its business by expanding into both categories with models like the Panamera, Cayenne and Macan. Maserati has long offered successive versions of the Quattroporte, more recently launched the Ghibli sedan and will soon introduce the Levante crossover. Aston Martin has toyed with both, as has Lamborghini. Other marques like Ferrari and McLaren, however, remain resolutely opposed to either proposition. This past December, we reported that Lotus was preparing to go a slightly different route by offering a high-riding version of the Evora instead of a proper four-door sport-ute. This latest development, however, would appear to be quite different. The company's engineering division showcased the APX crossover concept back in 2006, and revealed the Eterne sedan concept as part of the grandiose plans of the previous Bahar administration in 2010. The last time the proposition came up this past August, nearly half of respondents to our online poll voted that Lotus should build a sedan, but not a crossover. Over a quarter of you said Lotus should built both, 2 percent voted for the crossover over the sedan, and 22 percent said Lotus should steer clear of either.
