If CarFax is what you use to buy a car There is no reason to read further.
2005 Elise for sale with a checkered distant past. This was a FLorida Lemon buy back in 2005. I bought the car in 2007 from the second private owner. At that time there was no listing on Car Fax about it being a FLorida Lemon law buy back. That information was added long after I bought it. It has two accidents listed on CarFax. It was stolen for a day and driven into a small tree requiring repair of the front clam. The second owner was hit from behind at a stop light and pushed into the car in front causing both front and rear clamshells to be replaced. That owner sent me pictures of the damage before I bought the car and it was fiberglass damage only. After I bought it I had it examined by a Lotus dealer and there was NO subframe damage OR repair evident. Everything was in alignment and within specifications. I have owned and driven this car since 2007 and have driven it many trouble free miles. I have installed a Sector 111 Brake Noir kit with braided lines about 1000 miles ago.. I have tracked this car 3 times since I have owned it, using slicks mounted on a spare set of wheels. I'm too old to race any more buy I enjoy going on a track once in a while. It is not a garage queen and has many rock chips around in side scoops and parking lot entry damage under the nose. ( It lacks the Lamborghini feature of suspension raising to enter parking lots.). I spare no expense on the mechanical upkeep of my cars and this one is no excpetion. It has had its fluids changed regularly including Bake fluid ( Motul Racing fluid), Oil ( Castrol Syntec) , Coolant ( Dexcool) and Castrol Gearbox lube change at 30K miles. Tires are Goodyear GS-D3's with at least a year left on them. The heater motor control upgrade was done as was the factory recall for the Oil cooler line and ECU reflash. If the price goes high enough I will include a hardtop with a British flag decal covering it at no additional cost. I will decide if it sells at a price adequate to include the top, I have owned this car for the vast majority of it's existence and have enjoyed it like no other car I have owned including the Caterham it replaced. I WILL NOT accept bids form outside the US.... And yes NIGERIA and the RUSSIAN FEDERATION are outside the US. There is NO warranty, expressed or implied. |

Lotus says it's hiring 200 new engineers in effort to expand
Mon, May 13 2019Lotus is making moves to rise back up in the automotive world. A report from The Telegraph says the British company will hire 200 new engineers. This batch of hiring comes from the pockets of new Chinese owner Geely. The plans also include the opening of a new engineering center in the U.K. away from its longtime home in Norfolk. Lotus CEO, Phip Popham said this about the new moves. "Lotus has been in survival mode for many years. We're taking on people here and also in the Midlands. We need to tap into the industrial resource outside Norfolk to help our growth," Popham said. These new hires are all part of a multi-billion dollar investment into Lotus from Geely to try and turn the company around. Ultimately, Lotus wants to triple its current production all the way up to 5,000 cars per year. One of the initiatives from this investment is an all-electric hypercar we saw teased not too long ago. Popham also spoke of making cars with a slightly different focus than the Lotus we know of today. "A car not just for the weekend, but one you can live with," Popham says. Ideas of a Lotus SUV or grand tourer have bounced around in the recent past, and those still appear to be in the company's plans. The British brand plans on tapping Geely for many items it doesn't already have, according to the report. These include modern items like digital display screens and parts required for electrification of its vehicles. A new platform meant to house these "livable" Lotus cars is said to be in the works.
The UK votes for Brexit and it will impact automakers
Fri, Jun 24 2016It's the first morning after the United Kingdom voted for what's become known as Brexit – that is, to leave the European Union and its tariff-free internal market. Now begins a two-year process in which the UK will have to negotiate with the rest of the EU trading bloc, which is its largest export market, about many things. One of them may be tariffs, and that could severely impact any automaker that builds cars in the UK. This doesn't just mean companies that you think of as British, like Mini and Jaguar. Both of those automakers are owned by foreign companies, incidentally. Mini and Rolls-Royce are owned by BMW, Jaguar and Land Rover by Tata Motors of India, and Bentley by the VW Group. Many other automakers produce cars in the UK for sale within that country and also export to the EU. Tariffs could damage the profits of each of these companies, and perhaps cause them to shift manufacturing out of the UK, significantly damaging the country's resurgent manufacturing industry. Autonews Europe dug up some interesting numbers on that last point. Nissan, the country's second-largest auto producer, builds 475k or so cars in the UK but the vast majority are sent abroad. Toyota built 190k cars last year in Britain, of which 75 percent went to the EU and just 10 percent were sold in the country. Investors are skittish at the news. The value of the pound sterling has plummeted by 8 percent as of this writing, at one point yesterday reaching levels not seen since 1985. Shares at Tata Motors, which counts Jaguar and Land Rover as bright jewels in its portfolio, were off by nearly 12 percent according to Autonews Europe. So what happens next? No one's terribly sure, although the feeling seems to be that the jilted EU will impost tariffs of up to 10 percent on UK exports. It's likely that the UK will reciprocate, and thus it'll be more expensive to buy a European-made car in the UK. Both situations will likely negatively affect the country, as both production of new cars and sales to UK consumers will both fall. Evercore Automotive Research figures the combined damage will be roughly $9b in lost profits to automakers, and an as-of-yet unquantified impact on auto production jobs. Perhaps the EU's leaders in Brussels will be in a better mood in two years, and the process won't devolve into a trade war. In the immediate wake of the Brexit vote, though, the mood is grim, the EU leadership is angry, and investors are spooked.
Lotus stepping up to LMP1 in World Endurance Championship
Tue, 18 Feb 2014Only a couple of years ago, it looked like the top tier of prototype endurance racing was in trouble. Peugeot shut down its program, leaving the LMP1 category all to Audi to dominate. Only six cars entered the Petit Le Mans in 2012, and the season was cut short. But the top class in the FIA World Endurance Championship has since blossomed. And it only looks poised to grow further.
Audi and Toyota will each be back on the grid this season, joined by Porsche. But the latest news has Lotus stepping up to the big leagues also. (Well, sorta: the German-run squad uses the Lotus name and colors, but has no more to do with the automaker than the Formula One team of the same name.)
The Lotus LMP1 will be based on the same Lola-based T129 chassis used until now in the LMP2 class, with former F1 driver Christijan Albers leading the driver lineup. In addition to Audi, Toyota and Porsche, the solitary Lotus entry will also compete against privateer Rebellion Racing in a nine-car LMP1 grid throughout the season.
